  1. If it's spelled "Joel" than you know it's wrong! Pssst...his name isn't "Joel". That IS a bad-assed guitar... good price too!
  2. Something about the timing of this... My son came home from Crew practice on Friday night and asked if I happened to have any Boston CDs that he could upload to his iPod. Apparently, one of the other kids on the team was blasting that CD on the bus ride to the boathouse all week and he liked it. True, some of it is kind of dated (keys, mostly), but there's some great stuff in there, and like Chris said above, it has aged pretty well. I was trying to explain how different that sounded to me in the later mid-70s, but when my son's eyes kind of glazed over, I just told him to enjoy it!
  3. I'll see your "little bass" and put up an even smaller one! Seriously, that is a COOL bass.
  4. That's SO close to one of my all-time favorite Hamers... "E" string extender on there too.
  5. The Black/Fuschia Blitz above is a Zulu finished model.
  6. Not sure the part number, but I have a few down in the vault. I'll see if there's any identifier - basically it's the same as the Gibson 535 cases or the Hamer GC-1 case. I have a Les Paul in one and a Hamer in the other and I think there's a third one with nothing in it (?).
  7. Bob - From my recollection: One piece necks Plastic/Pearloid inlay No shielding/no shielding paint.
  8. For what it's worth, I also own a MIK Vector and a Velocity bass. I've gigged with the Velocity, and if I didn't have the other choices I have, would take the Vector out as well. Both are fine instruments, but again, the USA stuff is head and shoulders above. The construction, playability, quality and sound is far superior. It's like comparing apples to spaceships...
  9. Nathan - gotta disagree with you on that. I've owned a number of USA Standards, and they are not even in the same solar system as the imports. They are FAR beyond. I've played many imports, and although they are great compared to other guitars in their class (Epiphones, etc.), and even better than many lower end Gibsons, they can't begin to hold a candle to the USA-made models. Try to A/B the USA and the XTs if you get the chance. I have on a number of occasions, and they are two completely different animals. (BTW - mirrorimij probably knows what he's talking about. He actually BUILT Hamers!)
  10. Ditto what Bob said above.
  11. Depends on what your budget is. If you're going to spend $500, you could probably still find a nice used USA Hamer for close to that. It also depends on what you're shooting for - what style of music do you play? Do you lean towards HBs, P-90s, Single Coils? Trems? Lots of variables, but I think most everybody here would recommend waiting a bit longer, socking away the extra cash to go to a USA (used) model. Far better choice, in my opinion.
  12. Just got this emailed to me. Very touching, and a little insight into the man from a bandmate and friend: http://www.parthenonhuxley.com/
  13. Wow. Kelly was a really talented and tasteful player, and will definitely be missed. I was just speaking about him (and Gordon Townsend) with my kids' guitar teacher (P. Hux) last week after lessons. They all played together in ELO2/The Orchestra from 2000 until a year or so ago, but remained close friends. Hux is currently recording a CD with Gordon, and I was hoping to hear some pre-production stuff from it next week, which is why that all came up. Very sad news.
  14. Hit an IKEA and you're set! Stike's guitar box looks even better in person.
  15. Yikes, that's a great deal!
  16. Tuners should probably be Grover Super Rotomatics (there's a NOS set of "Bullseyes" on eBay right now, actually, but they're tough to find typically). Pickups would be DiMarzio pickups wound for Hamer - PAFs. An uncovered Zebra in the neck and a double cream in the bridge. The Burstbuckers didn't come along until around 20 years after that guitar left the Hamer shop. #7 0034 is one of the really early ones - that's a great one to keep!! You have definitely seen a big appreciation in value on that one since you originally got it.
  17. Yes - it is unbound.
  18. That one may look a little different because it was one of the ridiculously small handful of carved top Sunburst-platform guitars done in the 80s.
  19. Because we get so many spammers from around the world trying to gain entry into the Forums (at least a dozen or so daily), we must require that you manually enter some relevant information in your profile - anything will do - or send an email to me ( chris at hamerfanclub dot com )in order to approve you as a Member. This has been posted in our HFC FAQs for years, but some people seem to have had a tough time finding that. This applies mostly to anyone using a free or "throwaway" email service, like gmail, hotmail or yahoo. If there is nothing in your profile to identify you as a Hamer player, owner, fan, or whatever and your email and/or user ID don't turn up in a Google search, your account will sit in the Validation queue for 10 days and is then automatically deleted by the system. There is simply no way for us to tell your profile apart from the increasingly clever spam army out there. We're not collecting any of your information here, we just need a way to confirm that you're a real prospective member and not some Spambot in Belarus... ...or Nigeria... ...or the Ukraine... ...or China... (etc., etc.) ** If you are already a posting member, this does not apply to you! **

  20. I turned it off the second Kanye West came on the screen. He's beyond worthless in my book. Watched "Flight of the Conchords" instead - guess I missed some stuff later, but I'll YouTube it...
  21. The tough part is finding one that is both light AND has a rosewood board.
  22. They're not for me, but if you like yours, that's fine. I've played some I really liked, but 99% of them look either overdone, forumlaic or the wear is nothing like I've seen in three decades of handling a LOT of vintage guitars.
  23. I heard back from him earlier tonight. Ditto on no case, but he doesn't want to ship it.
