  1. ya know, the prototypes upper horn isn't too gumby looking. that one would prolly look badass w/o the pickguard. are there unsighly routes under there? maybe a see thru plexi guard would help. maybe its just me, but pickguards scream "cheap guitar", and the prototype doesn't actually need one (rear routed controls, & pups mounted in rings).
  2. ahh, this thread is an oldie but a goodie. *disclaimer; no hamers were harmed in this thread, this is all in fun, YMMV, yada yada; 1) PHANTOM (great guitar but ughh, the *worst* looking) 2) PROTOTYPE (almost as bad; any high end guitar w/ a pickguard should be ashamed of itself) 3) SCARAB (but cool in a hairband kinda way, extra ugly points for goofy neon graphics) 4) ECLIPSE (but cool in a jetsons/utilitarian kinda way) 5) SS1 (almost cool, yet still ugly enough to mention; extra ugly points for homemade refin) almost forgot these two rare birds (sorry toby); TLE & VIRTUOSO (sexy doubleneck, tho) these are so rare they almost don't count, yet so ugly they must be included; monacos & mirages are not ugly (although ten years ago i used to pretend mirages were because it pissed HHB off, ha). blitz & vectors are fine, tho i prefer hamers more original designs to their gibson/fender clones. as for cheap finishes and modifications, any decent looking hamer can be made ugly;
  3. i dunno. take home message; get it in writing!!
  4. actually, this year they reissued blizzard & diary w/ original bass/drum tracks, and they are geting their royalties. ps- what WAS the last hard rock/metal album you paid for? and when was that? haha
  5. check, 1, 2
  6. i'l prolly be there, but won't be shocked if both are sub par.
  7. dude, that's far too much research and concern for an import. why ask why? just go with it, enjoy, and save up for a usa.
  8. i liked the guyatone st-2 (?), the lil green one. it has a "direct" switch that mixes in uncomp'd original signal, which removes the "squashed" feel; gives sustain but has a more "real" sound... i've heard that a few others do this, but this is the one i had, and i liked it better than mxr/boss/ibanez/ehx pedals i owned that didn't have that feature.
  9. toot away, bill. sorry i can't make it out there this weekend. edit - found this from a few years back;
  10. ahh, bigger cab. a common complaint on blues jrs is the boxy tone from such a small cab. nice look too. you done good!
  11. keep the neck phatcat, put the seth (or another hum) in the bridge. spruce top hamer w/ a phatcat is my fave neck pup tone evah!
  12. i have done a zillion bar gigs, none of them while on acid. we are trying to point the OP in the direction of a better fender bang for your buck. if you have your heart set on a blues jr, then by all means, go for it, hope it makes you happy.
  13. me too!! ha this. try one, then decide. channel one (blackface) kicks tha crap outta most fender amps in the same price range (hell, it sounded more chimey fendery that my '66 blackface champ, i shit you negative). channel two preset 8 is a very decent marshall tone. add delay/trem/verb/etc to taste, NO PEDALS NEEDED. only mod is maybe a spkr swap (hell, maybe not)...
  14. ha! killer. i just got off the phone w/ geoff, we're riding to the not rush/spank show saturday, i'm gonna help him film spank. i remember watching him play these licks at his house months ago.
  15. That's an awesome track. I've always been weak in the shredding department, but this video has inspired me to give it another go. Thanks Brooks! i'm awaiting the release of "the aristocrats", his trio of doom w/ marco minnemann (paul gilbert, dream theater drum auditions) & bryan beller (steve vai, dethklok). should be epic, not just shred w/ a static rhythm section. http://the-aristocrats-band.com/
  16. steve, remember nicole (my roomie before dana and casey)? her sister dated dan. AND, scott sailer bought dan's old drumset (which he then used in candy pig).
  17. good job, duave. frampton comes alive was one of my very 1st albums (8 tracks, actually), got it xmas '76 (2nd grade), along w/ BTO's greatest hits, & KISS - dressed to kill !!! i was hooked, tennis racket in the mirror, the whole bit.
  18. fives - guthrie govan ps - i'm sure someone will pipe up w/ some typical "too many notes" anti shredder negativity, but i find his musicality (his phrasing, & esp the songs melody line) very beautiful.
