covers that are way better than the originals
Brooks replied to DaveL's topic in Hamer Fan Club Messageboard
i'll add astronomy, the mercyful fate medley, the prince, even whiskey in the jar (flame away, but i like it). i actually like metallica's covers better than their originals! except for their sabra cadabra cover (which is great, but not better than the original sabs). mercyful fate medley http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IVr6EjIT4Hg i'll add anything by jazz is dead (fusion covers of grateful dead), and any thelonious monk tunes done by charlie hunter (or almost anyone else besides the original monk recordings, which sound like demos). green chimneys -
Putting HAMER back on the metal map

--> QUOTE(David B @ Mar 12 2011, 10:54 AM) ← Nice job man! Mercyful Fate meets Rob Halford. yeah, i hear that. great video! did i read right that you guys formed ~30 years ago?! -
this is my 1st set of EMG's, and i'll echo some of the things already said; they are quiet, and do sound good for metal. like geoff quoted me, they do seem to make guitars sound like they have been EQ'd and slightly compressed thru a rack o' stuff, kinda "hi fi", which i think makes floyded guitars (which to me don't sound great) sound not so bad. i don't think anyone mentioned the almost "cocked wha" mid boost that they seem to have; its a familiar sound due to all the 80's & 90's metal guys who have recorded w/ them. they seem to make my high gain mostly SS rig sound better, almost a cross between kings x and dimebags tone. kinda.. you know... they wouldn't have worked w/ my rig and clean tones that i used in my last band (generic hustle), but work perfect w/ my rush tribute rig. the standard guitar internet board thing to say is "you gotta try 'em w/ your rig and style and make up your own mind" (not helpful, i know).

prolly. i remember telling folks we were "a duo" when they refered to dave & i as "the band". got a couple of "whatever.." (translated - "you're a pretentious douche"), so i stopped mentioning it, ha.

adios MEG. jack is not going away, but i doubt we'll hear from her again. jack is tallented, but i can't stand the stripes tunes w/ no bass instrument. "7 nation army" is a great tune, but would have sucked big time w/o the "bass" part (octave down whammy pedal). i remember the only time i saw flat duo jets, i thought "WTF?? how'd THEY get a gig, they sound like a jr high jam session"...

most challenging gig of my life last night...........
Brooks replied to harry65's topic in Hamer Fan Club Messageboard
thank god no!!!!!!!!! piano player handled that , was just compin and soloing , it was a much needed wake up call.............. hey, comping and soloing on jazz stuff you're not prepped for is still a HUGE challenge. anyway, a gig w/ trad jazz for set or 2 then funky fusion would be a dream come true. i had a trio back in the late 90's that did that, but we worked from a rehearsed setlist. i've sat in a few times on friends jazz gigs, thankfully they didn't call any super difficult tunes and i was able to comp & solo by following a chart. harry, if this is a regular gig near west palm, lemme know where & when so my brother can come out. -
most challenging gig of my life last night...........
Brooks replied to harry65's topic in Hamer Fan Club Messageboard
yikes. thats harsh w/ no prep. did you hafta sight read melodies too? -
my advice is start w/ amp sims only (add cab sims if you are running direct). dial a few in before starting to throw on stompboxes/mics/outboard stuff. have fun!

New member and NGD (Sunburst Slammer series)
Brooks replied to Diocletian's topic in Hamer Fan Club Messageboard
welcome. you done good broseph, that's a good lookin ax. the slammer series were the 1st (and very best quality) of all the hamer imports. my 1st hamer was also a slammer series sunburst that i bought used around 1997 as a gig backup for my LP studio. i soon realized that it looked/played/sounded/held tuning better, so i sold the LP. then i found this place around 1999, many hamer usa's followed soon after, i think i've owned around 20 usa's since (down to 3 right now). save up and keep an eye on the for sale board here, your next step is a usa hamer, and they do pop up pretty cheap every once in awhile. ps- i dig jethro tull too, saw 'em live w/ govt mule opening in the 90's. -
kickarse! i have one in black; needs new pups eventually, methinks.

Easy to say when medicated. LOL!!! How you feeling bro? i'm ok. DavidB is on his way over w/ the bird, so thats very cool. my meds suck (percocet), they don't give you a buzz, they just dull the pain (my pain is light this week). been on the phone trying to get someone to deliver some smokey treats! -

starting to get cabin fever! i've been surfing CL for another bike (ins check for my totaled bike is in the mail), but 1st i will rent something for a day just to make sure that i'm not too freaked out to ride (doubtful). i'm over the gear chase, but might treat myself when the pain & suffering money lands. i'm thinking something simple and toneful, prolly a hamer jr and a marshall class5.

HAHAHAAAAA!!! thanx joe, i needed that.
