  1. I know I'm in the minority, but I'll throw it out there anyway: How about a Jr. Bass? Medium scale neck, single Phat Cat bass pickup, pickguard, vol., tone, mahogany double cut body(Korina would be better, tho.), simple, stripped down. Getting a dog-ear pickup cover/mount with four polepiece holes would require some work, however. I guy can dream, can't he?
  2. Here's my T-51. Ash body, dark indigo blue that looks black under all but the most intense light.
  3. I don't even OWN any pedals. Of course, I haven't played guitar in a band for 30 years or so, only bass. My guitar playing is striclty around the house. Hmmm, maybe if I started using effects, I could get a gig playing guitar!
  4. Here's a couple from the Monaco family...
  5. In my house, I keep my guitars in their cases because it takes up less room that way. Here's my utilitarian solution to the case storage problem:
  6. These bear a slight resemblance to each other...
  7. Here's my '91 Special 12-string. How many of these are out there?
  8. My turn to play along. This isn't from my first gig- I'd been gigging off and on for 7 years by this time. But this is one of the few photos that I have access to. As I recall, it was an outdoor gig at the local junior college. Outdoors in APRIL. That explains the leather. I was always described as "Gavin's brother" in any sort of press, like there's never been siblings in the same band before. I just realized that I'm still using the same guitar strap!
  9. My Monaco Bass is the only new instrument I own. Normally, I buy used to avoid taking a massive financial hit when it comes time to sell. I don't consider resale value to be an issue here, because I can't imagine ever selling this bass.
  10. My current bass rig is either a pair of home made 115 cabs plus a separate cab housing a horn loaded piezo mid-tweeter, or a pair of EV 115 Force i 2-way PA cabinets. Stacked, of course. I go back and forth over which cab arrangement I like better. Driving them is a Thunderfunk TFB-420.
  11. '52 Vincent Black Lightning- Richard Thompson Memphis in the Meantime, As Good as She Could Be- John Hiatt
  12. And while we're at it, who needs tone controls on an amplifier?
  13. Joe Jackson occupies most of my shelf space with about 25 releases on vinyl, CD, VHS and DVD, followed by John Hiatt, The Fabulous Thunderbirds (including Jimmy Vaughn and Kim Wilson solo stuff), Cheap Trick, Richard Thompson, Queen, UFO, The Pretenders and Rory Gallagher.
  14. I seem to recall an appearance by Joe Jackson where he was apparently given a time limit for his song. This must have pissed him off, because he had an alarm clock sitting on top of his piano. When the alarm went off, he stopped the song immediately without finishing.
  15. Since this will wind up as a corner post on a headboard for the rarely-used bed in my guest bedroom, I'm not too concerned about tone. I just thought it was unusual to come across a plank of poplar that looked like this.
  16. So there I was at the Home Despot, gathering material for a non-music related project, when I pulled this out of the lumber bin: Only one of the three laminations was figured, and only one piece of any size or shape in the store had any figure at all. I've never run into this before with poplar. The picture doesn't do it justice. It's as flamey/curly/quilty as any piece of maple. It's too wild-looking to paint over, so I guess I'll try stain and varnish instead. Maybe trans black?
  17. Here's a shot of my Indigo Elite. Definitely not chambered. It has the familiar LP heft. Also not for sale- this is more fuel for the GAS.
  18. Sorry for your loss. My thoughts are with you and your family.
  19. Here's a shot of my Elite in Indigo:
  20. My brother had a bass with one of those exotic tropical wood tops (cocobolo, maybe?) and an oiled finish that really irritated him. I'm talking allergic reaction, contact-dermatitis irritation. In this case, it was the wood that irritated him, but a full coverage lacquer finish would've prevented it. Personally, the idea of an artificially relic'ed finish really annoys me. The whole concept seems dishonest. Every scratch, dent, ding and worn spot should be EARNED.
  21. Weren't KMD amps a Kaman product? -Brandon
  22. I'm no expert, but the cutaway looks like a Monaco to me. Newports don't have binding running up the side of the neck like that. I can't tell if the Monaco "shelf" is there, but I'm willing to bet it is. -Brandon
