  1. 34!! Didn't know you were so young................Crap, I can't remember 34. Happy Birthday!
  2. Dean is local to me and I have met him on several occasions. I'll look into it and see if his health is holding up. I know he has some serious issues but I haven't heard anything about a downturn.
  3. Simple mods are out there to fix the thin ear piercing highs, give more sweep over the tone controls, balance out the mids, and add bottom end. 800's can be real thick and beefy when the mods are done correctly.
  4. Beside the guitars shops on 48th st near Radio City, Times square, and the usual tourist stuff.....I'm big on the Metropolitan Museum and the Museum of Modern Art. Sometimes I miss my home town
  5. I have a pair of GT12T-75 speakers I pulled from my Marshall cab that were in there since 1992. I have no idea what they go for. I'll sell the pair for $105.00 or $55.00 per shipped and Paypal.
  6. Well if you want to get technical most low power amps are not going to give you any real clean headroom, it is the nature of the beast. You can however maximize whatever is available. The correct tubes are one step in the that direction. The other steps involve circuit changes. The great thing about low power amps is the grind you get so I think it defeats the purpose. I do get folks that ask me to tweak their amps for that little extra clean headroom. Hey, it's been keeping me busy.
  7. For a little more clean headroom the easiest thing to do is order a set of power tubes from Dougs Tubes or your favorite vendor, rated for later breakup. You can ask him for pre-amp tubes that are a shade less gainy as well stay with the 12ax7 If you use a 12at7, 12ay7, 12 au7, you will effect the overall tone of the amp as they are not direct replacements for a 12ax7. The correct alternative is a 5751 and that will give you less gain without impacting the overall tone.
  8. The Blues Project. Right out of Greenwich Village around 1965-66. They never did much but from the heart of this band came Blood Sweat and tears. They had a reunion concert in Central park ca 1973 that was broadcast on WNEW FM NYC IIRC and released as a double album. (I still have it). I'm late to the party did anybody mention the Archangels?
  9. Happy Birthday to one of the true good guys on the board.
  10. I just saw this. CRAPOLA!!!!!!!! Prayers have already been sent, and I will continue them as long as necessary.
  11. HBD to one of the top HFC folk!
  12. FYI....I put a set of Penta KT-88 in my Master Vol Marshall. If sticking with the EL34's I'll recommend JJ E34l for current production. The Svets are good but I prefer the JJ. If you are a high gain guy which I suspect you are you won't like it unless you have a a high gain mod like a Voodoo mod done to it. Don't know if they have one for your model though. Talk to your tech and see what he can do. Again, I'm not really sure what condition it's really in, but I noticed the bottom end is flabby as hell. Any particular tubes could change that? The JJ E34L has a nice tight bottom. I was really happy with the change it made to the 79 I had. I think I also had them in the Valvetech I sold to MC Chris. For current production they are hard to beat. You may also want to try a Tung Sol RI 12ax7 in v1. If you need one let me know.

  14. The schematic and layouts I used were from the Ceriatone and Trinity sites BUT like I said I made a few changes. Is it for sale, NO!!!.
  15. My first build was a Ceriatone kit, the second a GDS kit. This one I sourced my parts from Mojo, Great Bear, Heyboer once I knew for sure what I needed. Cabs I got from Trinity and Reason Amps. For a first crack the GDS kit is excellent with the directions and the labeling of parts. The Trinity kit is quite good as well. It includes Sozo caps and Heyboer trannies for around $500.00. Go for it!
  16. I finished another 18 watt head this week to replace the one I lost when I loaned it out and due to some circumstances beyond anyones control I could not get it back. Well I can't begin to describe how I feel about this amp, close to being a proud Papa again. Through experimentation I changed the values of some of the caps and came up with an absolute classic rock and blues monster. I even have it tweaked for a little more gain for the younger folks of the gain is tone mindset. For those who don't like EL-84 based amps, this one will change your mind. I tried it out with JJ's, EI, TAD current production EL-84 tubes and NOS Tesla, Saratovs, GE, Philips minwatt, RFT, BEL, Mullards, and they all sounded killer. I put the same changes into my combo and demo'd it down at the local privately owned music store and it received rave reviews. I need to get Matt over to help me put some mp3's together to give folks an idea of what this thing can do. I AM FRIGGIN STOKED!!!!!!!!!!!!
  17. The First tone that made me say whoa? Beatles "I Feel Fine". The first tone that made me want to learn how to play? Creme - "Spoonful"
  18. PM Kiz, I think he has a few pair in his parts box. Had pair, but they were P90's pulled from a Duotone.
  19. Not class A per se but cathode biased amps do not need to be rebiased. EL 84 based amps are usually cathode biased.
  20. I'm not a 100% for FEDEX but I've had more things go wrong with UPS. There is little choice unless you go Express Saver which is more $$$ but is handled by a different crew.
  21. It's AFT I made it to one of these. If Belgian arranges to get the beer I have to come.
  22. Has this thread bypassed the old thread from hell yet? It's got to be close.
  23. I am stone cold realist. Hamer is at best an afterthought in this deal. It may very well be, as Dandy Don used to sing on Monday Night Football, "Turn out the lights, the party's over".
