Looking for some shared regrets here. It occurred to me about a month ago that I hadn't picked up a guitar in roughly ten years. Life has calmed a bit, so I have decided that I want to get back to it. Picking up the guitar a couple of weeks ago was well beyond disappointing. I can barely hack beginner pieces. Any knowledge of theory I had been building seems to have run out my ears. I'm missing strings, flubbing notes...well, you get it. It's frustrating. At one point I was pretty good at some things - not HFC-good mind you, but I could find my way around a nylon string guitar in a non-embarassing way. I didn't start guitar until I was 27, but I worked consistently at it for a long time, and it was satisfying to see the progress. I found a local teacher who I think has what I want and can help me out, and my first lesson is tonight. I'm a 54yo man, and I'm nervous about this. I find this odd. I know some things will come back relatively quickly, and some things are gone, and that's fine. I'm at where I'm at, and that's okay. Clearly it would have been better to at least keep my hands on the guitar a little from day to day. No real point here except to flog myself in public and ask you to do the same (or warn you not to do what I did). Anyone else do this? Did you recover from it? Clever and inspiring witticisms appreciated. Edited to add: ...and my shoulder aches, and my fingers don't stretch so well, and my fingertips hurt. Woe is me. Thanks for listening.

No appreciator of this song can fail to include William Shatner. Thanks for listening.

I can't believe with everything they let through in the charts today, they censored 'dance and drink and screw.' Be sure to include that when you make your metal cover. ETA: I also can't understand how this isn't one of the top songs of all time. It should be. Let's do our part.

...and screw...

A brilliant performance and arrangement, by a good person who died too young. Michael was a humble and genuinely nice guy, and an incredible musician. I recommend checking out his other videos as well. If you don't like this, I can't help you.

Gold pickups on a blonde - cream or black rings?

Remove all the gold parts. -
Thanks, all. I know threads like these are somewhat pointless, but it's nice to see the replies anyway. I've missed (some of) you. No.

Okay, so I'm back, sort of. Do you even remember me? I need your advice. I'm attempting to reintegrate non-classical guitar into my life, and I need to avoid the madness that we all witnessed the first decade of my presence here. I'm looking for one high quality yet not overly expensive guitars: This one is done An electric guitar of some sort. I still like f-holes and ebony and natural/tobacco finishes. Also Telecasters. Also every other guitar. I like them all. As before, red guitars, gold hardware and Heritages need not apply. It seems every time I'm away for a number of years, everything gets more expensive. Will I learn from this? Please help me stay in control this time. Thanks in advance. I didn't post this as a WTB as I'm just asking for advice/suggestions for now. If it's better in the classifieds as a WTB, please just let me know (or move it). --

Is Zakk playing live in this video?
Feynman replied to topekatj's topic in Hamer Fan Club Messageboard
I'm certainly in no position to criticize, but that's never stopped me before. My favorite YouTube comment is "I don’t think he was even listening to the backing track." I feel like Zakk Wylde is becoming a caricature of Zakk Wylde. Those are pretty incredible chops though - some really impressive bits throughout. I liked a lot of it. I think he's better than I thought he was. -
Perhaps yours don't include...

You guys ever listen to Khruangbin? If not, you should. I feel that the more I listen the more greatness I find, across all the musicians. Also, her.

Every now and then YouTube decides to suggest a gem, for no reason I can discern. I have very few friends who would fully appreciate this, so hereyago Hamer Friends. Stick around for a tasteful mandolin solo.

Ha - the wall switch labels are from my daughters - the left one says "Don't Touch!" They kept forgetting and shutting off important things I had plugged in to a switched outlet. I have long since moved all of those things to their own dedicated circuit, but I left the labels there since they went to the trouble of making them.

It doesn't get more rock and roll than my lifestyle. Merry Christmas, WyldBil.

Okay, I laughed. You beat me to a funny idea I had, but I deserve it. It's here, safely with me. I'm trying to arrange a photo release from the Army, but it's not looking good. Fingers are crossed though. I should know soon.
