I dig the Gibson-style bursts on them! Centered, but not extending to the cutaway horns.

Hamer chicago gathering song list ideas
crunchee replied to murkat's topic in Hamer Fan Club Messageboard
A helpful hint from one of my trips to Denmark Street, 2006. -
Yup, good stuff. http://www.hamerfanclub.com/forums/index.p...l=billy+gibbons

Cool snag, congrats! Last week was a weird week for Hamers on eBay, a FM went for $549, another FM went for $995. The guy who sold this originally had bids that was $110 higher than what it finally went for. I dunno what to think, I'd probably have better luck following stocks.

More like USED to be available from Hamer's merchandising outlet. I emailed them a month and a half ago, asking them if they were gonna have anything more up on the Hamer outlet besides just a DVD, they never replied back. I'm all for HFC gear, but the 'Tone to the Bone' shirts are kickass! I'm gonna email 'em again, maybe they were on vacation before. I'd encourage anybody else interested to email them too, don't cost 'nuttin. www.ovationwear.com

A young guitarist's dream job?
crunchee replied to Thundernotes's topic in Hamer Fan Club Messageboard
Holy crap! Congrats! It can't get much better than that. -
I sent a message to the 'Ovationwear' site on July 5th, which was roughly the last time this subject came up here. They never contacted me back. That being said, I think Zazzle does private designs, but I don't know what the process or cost of having a design done and made is. There's also the potential for copyright issues.

...as in 38,000 Elvis fans can't be wrong? Let me be the first to offer the new owner (whoever that will be) the HFC price of tree fitty.
-
No need to rush, they were made in 07-08 and less than half of the run of seven has sold. Having them for that long, I'd guess their pricing is pretty firm. +1 on Austin's wallet assessment...it's gonna take me another three or four years before I can afford one of these! Edited to add: I might consider a custom order of my own after looking at THOSE prices. Also: Datzigs?!? At least they got the Jol part right. http://cgi.ebay.com/Hamer-Standard-Custom-...=item3a681a6b28

PSA: Sustain Block Special
crunchee replied to Gitslide's topic in For Sale - Wanted to Buy - PIF - eBay & Other PSAs
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wood_veneer I had a Sustain Block Special up until very recently, which had the maple veneer top delaminating from the guitar at the body edge...and not a little, but a LOT. It was THIN, probably thinner than old fashioned paper posterboard, I'd say closer to construction paper thickness, and it definitely was NOT something you wanted to stick a thumbnail under and try to fix...partly so not to break the veneer, partly so not to crack the rest of the finish. And NO, the delamination was NOT where you usually see the 'margin' around the top side edges on one of these guitars...it was right along the top edge, just BEFORE the body curves at the edge down the side, in other words the veneer is on a flat surface and NOT curved around the top edge of the guitar. The illusion that it is thicker is simply due to good ol' faux finishing along the edges, as well as the effect of the finish itself on curly maple. I have seen other Sustain Block Specials with a veneer top, in beat-up shape, where they were getting a 'blistered' texture on the top (not a 'look', a texture), due to delamination of the top from the body; and this look is common on old veneered furniture, especially those that have been in temperature extremes or in a damp climate or flood damaged. I'm confident that I WON'T see this effect EVER on a 1/4" top on a Special FM, not due to simple climate changes anyway. I doubt seriously that the maple veneered top makes a huge difference in sound, any more than the glue holding it on does, and that the rest of the guitar should get some credit, too (duh!). I used to TRY to attribute the sound of my RN Standard Custom to the maple top, until I found out the top is veneer, I just had to accept that the guitar sounded that way (great!) no matter how pretty the top looked, and that I had been listening with my eyes. -
PSA: Sustain Block Special
crunchee replied to Gitslide's topic in For Sale - Wanted to Buy - PIF - eBay & Other PSAs
Cool guitar. Is it the maple veneer style or the maple cap (Special FM?)? Edit: You know, for posterity, since the guitar's already sold! I thought early '80's Sustain Block Specials were always a maple veneer top when they were a transparent color. The way the paint was masked and sprayed when they did the top, with a dark margin around the edges, gave the illusion of a thicker top (I've had three Sustain Block Specials...in Cherry Sunburst/'59 'Burst, Cherry Transparent, and Tobacco Sunburst, all were factory painted this way) but it was simply a veneer top. I have a couple of FM Specials also, there is a BIG difference between the two versions. -
Can you list all the amps you've ever owned?
crunchee replied to sirDaniel's topic in Hamer Fan Club Messageboard
WAY too damn many. Sounds like a question a wife or girlfriend would ask, for future reference to either get me into the doghouse or restrict my buying ability/wish list, or both. Me being a guy, I reserve the right to plead selective amnesia. -
Whats the Last 5 Albums you've bought?
crunchee replied to bubs_42's topic in Hamer Fan Club Messageboard
The Beatles box set, with physical CDs. Yeah, I'm lazy. Haven't found anything to hold my interest long enough to download in awhile, either. -
Oh well. I know that feeling. Still, don't ever get rid of this guitar, it's just too cool!

Aaaaaaaaaaaaaannnddd? Then what? Did you demonstrate your playing skills?

No kids here. This is the first time I'd heard about a specific age. Concert-wise, I'd give kids the same rule that my parents gave me. If I had my drivers' licence', my own car, and was able to afford the tickets, the gas, AND the car, ALL on my own and not on the parents' dime, sure! Otherwise, the only concert I'd even think of taking 'em to is 'Peter And The Wolf'.
-
Right on Steve... same in DC. And probably each of those kids had a parent who was duped into taking them. The kids don't know what she's about... they think she is Selena Gomez, or some other current Disney star. And since I don't relate to pop music, I was not really too familiar with her. So does she have an obligation to the younger fans? That could be a lengthy debate in itself. I would assume the the kids have a much greater idea what Gaga is about than their parents! Twasn't it ever thus? -Austin +1. If you're looking for family entertainment, you could always take the kids to a Mets game.
-
Damn! For a second, I thought that was Gary Busey! Yeah, I coulda posted Nick Nolte's mugshot instead, but that's too easy.

Live bands in the rain make me think of a Dethklok/Metalocalypse moment...doesn't matter which, the potential for lethal disaster is there.

Most Unique Hamer Ever Made (highly custom)
crunchee replied to coolfeel's topic in Hamer Fan Club Messageboard
A BIG +1 on the Punisher Standard! Man, I wish somebody would order the whole LINE of Hamers in that scheme! I also liked a custom Standard in a US Flag color scheme that was done a couple of years ago.
