  1. A BIG +1 on the Punisher Standard! Man, I wish somebody would order the whole LINE of Hamers in that scheme! I also liked a custom Standard in a US Flag color scheme that was done a couple of years ago.
  2. What about the Improv? http://www.hamerguitars.com/?fa=detail&mid=1267 Edited to add: Willcutt has one if you can spare the coin.
  3. Several years ago, there was a Australian compilation album of nothing but Stairway To Heaven covers. This was my favorite from the bunch: I wish somebody would actually do THIS in this style, too: Once your ears get used to it, it actually fits together!
  4. +1! I dunno if there's any Roy Orbison defenders around...
  5. Speaking of Talking Heads...it's a tough call which version is better, each has it's merits: Al Green's original version (live in '75): Talking Heads' version (live in '78): http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=z2ChrFeFZzY
  6. Thanx, it's an old fave of mine. Trivia: The Strangeloves supposedly originally didn't start out as a 'group' (it's a loooong story, later on there's a Rick Derringer connection, apparently): http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Strangeloves There's a reason why I said 'long before teenage girls became Disney fodder', besides the fact that they ARE now...Annabella was only 15 or 16 at the time of the video.
  7. The original by The Strangeloves, 1965...'beating' the trend for a band member whomping an extra set of drums for emphasis/'kool' factor by 40+years... http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=d6roiwPK3Ok...feature=related My fave, the remake by BowWowWow, 1982...long before teenage girls became Disney fodder: The 'I-wish-I-hadn't-found-it-kill-me-now' version from Disney:
  8. +1,000,000! I read an article comparing the BEP halftime show to a '70's 'Up With People' performance. I switched over to AFV for a short time.
  9. I'm thinking of going P 90s. I have a unique opprotunity to make it unique. Lollar P90's... eardogs in creme. Natural and creme pickup covers... Yupssss Check my "175" not a custom thing but unique anyway. I think natural and p90's either black or creme is a great choice Um, isn't this a ES-295 RI? http://vintage-guitars.blogspot.com/2006/0...son-es-295.html
  10. prolly. i remember telling folks we were "a duo" when they refered to dave & i as "the band". got a couple of "whatever.." (translated - "you're a pretentious douche"), so i stopped mentioning it, ha. I always thought of this as a duo:
  11. The prices on JB Hutto model Airline guitars and Silvertone 6x10 amps sure went up because of Jack White. I don't think it was because guitar dealers were fans. Makes me wonder what woulda happened if he played a Hamer....
  12. Can't resist adding this: Done with a little help from JibJab.
  13. Yeah, that and playing in The Dead Weather.
  14. Yup...whole different tube. I'm curious about the EL34s, since it's been mentioned...how does the 'Winged C' stack up with the old East German Siemens or early Tesla (not JJ) EL34s? I have a small stash of both in Marshall packaging from the early '90's, I'm keeping them for my Marshall 2554 combo. I also have Tesla (Marshall packaging) 12AX7s from the same time frame, how do they stack up with others?
  15. Really like what Brewmaster said...my fave amp currently is a SF Deluxe Reverb, and the thing that I dislike about them, is that they sock a LOT of voltage to the 6V6s. I don't have a problem with tube life, I only play at home anyway and not that often, and the amp is healthy, but the circuit was designed when US made 6V6s were cheap and plentiful. But waddya gonna do? If I was playing out, I wouldn't use anything that I couldn't replace or miss if it was destroyed or stolen, not if I could help it anyway. Edited to add: I use JAN NOS Philips 6V6s in my DR. +1 on the comment about drunks and the audience. There's a Carl Perkins story from back in the '50s (I'm sure that others have done something similar in one way or another), he played a kinda-LP shaped Harmony Stratotone in honky-tonks early in his career, he wanted a Les Paul but couldn't afford one at the time, so he covered the name on the headstock with tape so people would think he had a LP. But, he realized that 'drunks can't read no how'. Not many people go to a club to check out gear, not the general public anyway. Besides, it's too damn noisy in a club, you have to use an amp that will cut through to the audience to be heard, as well as fit in with your bandmates. Any nuances get lost in the crowd, IMHO.
  16. At the beginning of this video, he does a few jazzy chords...
  17. Congrats! I'm positive that your skills and experience will be in huge demand, just watch out for the other H.J.s out in the world.
  18. I was thinking the same thing. She really doesn't seem that different "out of character" than on the show (which completely rocks). +1! I wouldn't mind a poster of that!
  19. http://teamcoco.com/ The Cheap Trick Facebook page says they're playing 'Dream Police' on Conan tonight.
  20. LOL, no way! Hey, that was MY guitar! Not.
  21. That guitarist should've started doing rhythm instead of digging his grave deeper with crappy lead playing...but NOOOOOO.... My fave: Another reason why Teles are popular , besides Keef only needs 5 tuners anyway (watch the Slash video closely, his LP loses a tuner in the fall...not good).
  22. My thoughts exactly: http://web.archive.org/web/20020206232745/...ine.com/kasket/ P.S. It doubles as a beer cooler!
  23. If that's cheating, I don't wanna be faithful! Very, very, very nice! I don't care much for gold hardware and natural finishes, but this is a definite exception...besides, blondes have more fun!
  24. I'd heard that too, Wiki seems to have a pretty comprehensive 'breakdown' (figuratively speaking) of the original Red Special. From reading about it, if he hadn't made the original guitar famous, it probably wouldn't be worth tree fitty on the market: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Red_Special Also, this: www.brianmayguitars.co.uk I've heard that Guild's version was good, but now out of production and expensive to get.
  25. Hmmm...makes me wonder why he initially had his website 'links' header done this way. And why he doesn't use it anymore. Credit and kudos to onguitar for finding this in the first place.
