  1. Hamers have spoiled me. Then again, so has finding the occasional beat-up example for Tree Fitty...which is pretty much mostly a memory now.
  2. Whatever's handy, and whatever I don't have to pull too much crap out of the closet to get at.
  3. I wonder what the magnetic pull would be like on the strings, if you did have three of those pickups. Three of 'em makes it look like it'd be handy for grating cheese or shredding cabbage.
  4. Not a bad price...for Japan.
  5. He just helps sell cheap crap Chinese guitars...so he can spend the money on a '59 LP.
  6. Pro Audio Series? Sounds more like a car stereo maker, not a guitar company.
  7. Hells YEAH, that's nice! Fergit Pat Methany, I'm thinking more like Scotty Moore!
  8. I kinda threw that in as a topical (for 1964) 'in' joke...Topo Gigio was on Ed Sullivan's show even more than The Beatles were...but you have to be old like me to remember that!
  9. I vaguely remember their first performances (in real time) on Ed Sullivan... I was just a tiny little kid, but still it had an impact on me even then: http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2014/01/09/beatles-reunion-late-show-with-david-letterman_n_4567439.html http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Pd-1KhZfMb4 P.S. Where'd they get the Bieber haircuts?
  10. Under a grand? For a USA build? AND quality parts? Somehow, I don't think that's gonna happen. The old SD Curlee guitars from the '70's had a very similar body shape to the Hamer Special/Gibson Junior/Specials, and it seems like I remember that they were selling in the 'budget' niche of the market back then. I just did a Google search, and apparently SD Curlee has been revived...but the prices are in the Two Grand range. http://www.sdcurleeusa.com/more.htm http://www.sdcurleeusa.com/index.htm Robin Guitars would have been the rough equivalent of what Northfield's suggesting...but there seems to be a reason why Robin is on hiatus...IF they ever come back. Didn't Nathan mention something about Jon Kammerer's almost getting ready to fold up the tent, too? That is, unless it's a no-overhead, word-of-mouth, private builder type of organization. THEN, that might be workable. Ain't I just one big bright ray of sunshine?
  11. Maybe there's a discount to be had, by asking how much they'd knock off the price, for selling it with just plain knobs, a plain tailpiece, and a plain truss rod cover?
  12. No tree-huggin' hippie is gonna buy a NEW guitar, it isn't eco-friendly! Especially after Henry's problems with the Feds in recent years. That reminds me, I wonder what happened to all those 'Smartwood' LPs from several years ago?
  13. It's a secret, because I'm trying to get it cheap, and everybody might want one. Or not.
  14. Gift cards, mainly. I leave the shopping for musical gear to me, and me alone...partly because I tend to agonize over purchases and try to get the best deal, but mainly because my family doesn't share my enthusiasm for making noise...er, music.
  15. ...here's wishing everyone a Happy Festivus! http://festivusweb.com/
  16. All I can do is offer my sincere congrats...especially since I don't have anything to sell. I'm sure that you're looking to relieve a LOT of G.A.S....I dunno if you should light a match or not in such an extreme case, though.
  17. Just curious, was this car parked out in the open and have good sun exposure during those 2 days? It wouldn't have made the car summertime hot, but it could have made the temperature inside the car go above freezing during the day, then down below again at night. That kind of temperature fluctuation wouldn't have helped, IMO.
  18. Nice...unfortunately, either one would bust my REGULAR budget, much less my Holiday budget! So, regretfully... http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qzHfQk7ATU0
  19. I once bought an amp that took a right hand turn (no, not at Albuquerque) at the big UPS depot in N. Illinois, and went to Washington state instead of farther south to me. It had the correct address on it so it wasn't the seller's doing, but UPS apparently put it on the wrong truck or train or whatever. I finally got it about a week and a half later, thankfully no worse for wear.
  20. One thing that I have noticed, is that asking and/or starting prices for gear on FeeBay seems to have climbed, since FeeBay started their "free" listing strategy. Sellers keep selling the same old thing week after week for the same high price, trying to get a buyer to bite...and since there's no money involved with an item that doesn't sell, sellers just keep trying. They'll only reduce the price when they get tired of listing, or get hard up for the cash.
  21. +1! I got a helluva deal on a semi-vintage amp last year on FeeBay around Thanksgiving...because nobody else seemed to be buying or was interested...or simply didn't have the cash to spare during the Holidays. I couldn't have found a better deal any other time. Like Bubs said, it's a lousy time of year to sell. That doesn't necessarily translate to deep discounts when buying from dealers and shops, though.
  22. Exactly^^^People think that you're supposed to alleviate them of their stuff and resell it at a loss, or no profit at all. Or they're just not thinking. Everybody has to sell their first guitar sometime, and it might be the first thing they ever tried to sell. +1. It's a good way to learn, that if somebody at a retail store not only agrees, but actually WANTS to pay the seller's asking price, there is something VERY wrong going on.
