  1. FMIC made the announcement of closing Hamer for good six months ago, more or less. It's kinda late to be making a stand about it now, isn't it? Selling used stuff to make a statement against a company really doesn't make that much of a difference, in the greater scheme of things. FMIC already GOT their money from those basses you bought, wadda THEY care what you do with them? NOT BUYING NEW PRODUCT from a company would make a stronger statement...that's what they call a boycott. But, it's gonna have to take a LOT more than one person to make a dent in sales. Now, GIVING away your basses because of your objection to FMIC would be a LOT stronger statement than selling them. You could always give them away to a charitable organization who could use them for a greater good, and make sure the message gets promoted that way. Or just sell them off for Tree Fitty here on the board, THAT'LL get some interest. Edited to add: I never buy new anymore anyway, so no musical instrument company has seen my money anyway in a LONG time, unless they sell accessories (mainly strings). My Hamers were made before FMIC bought Kaman/Hamer. The newest Fender-branded item I own was made when CBS owned the company (pre-1985 or so), so it's REALLY kinda late for anybody to protest against THEM for THOSE items.
  2. I'm a slob when it comes to woodshedding OR theory. Lately, I got out a bass after not playing for awhile, and for some reason I've improved noticeably with time off, though in ways I didn't expect. I stumbled across doing ascending Disco-style runs (35 years too late), it is (or WAS) fun but now I can't get it out of my head! No, I HAVEN'T been listening to Disco recently! It's a phase though a weird one, maybe it'll lead me to figure out some other weirdness.
  3. Nice looker! Is anybody into acoustic Hawaiian/Blues slide?
  4. Oh yes. The early '90's version of this (AKA "Sunburst Archtop" model) had a Hamer logo that was even bigger than this one. The ones on shredders, and AFAIK practically any Hamer in the late '80's, had the "Stadium" sized logo. Others here at the HFC are more familiar about them than I am. That particular sized Hamer logo on the black Eclipse (which I think was used from '92 or '93, until '97 or so) is my fave...nicely proportioned for the headstock, not too big, not too small, just right IMO.
  5. Happy Birthday, Stike! Hope you enjoy a sparkling adult beverage today, and many more to come!
  6. Nice! So, did that color of green involve alcohol, too? http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IIQcFUVCX_4
  7. Anybody remember when Tombo bought a used Hamer USA Archtop GT (Gold Top) there a few years back? I can't remember if it was B & C'd, or a dotneck...but Willie's had it for a good price (as in not outrageous), it was in excellent condition, and they were selling it for LESS than a used mid '90's Hamer USA Special in TV Yellow that they had. I wouldn't classify Willie's as Hamer experts by a long shot.
  8. ...understatement of the year. But it's WILLIES!!!!! Do you not understand the fact that this is a VINTAGE guitar store? With pictures of famous people on the walls? And stuff?!? Partyin' like it's still 2006, aren't they? Do they have a Dumble for sale, too?
  9. Here's the Korina Standard that was mentioned above, in action. It appears to have the same headstock logo as mine: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Vp3dQvIznjI
  10. The nut is just the standard issue Lubritrak nut, as fitted on most Hamer USA models of the time (mid-90's). I had some funky lighting that day when I took the photo, the first fret isn't skinny OR that color...and no, it's not brass, either! It just has the regular Hamer USA frets, no changes. Maybe a thunderstorm or something was coming up in the distance to make the lighting the way it was, I dunno. Edited to add: I may have used a flash for that photo, too (it was a long time ago). I rarely use flash anymore, it doesn't always help the photos, plus it eats batteries!
  11. Nice! Is this one at the Chicago HFC? Reminds me a little of mine: http://s218.photobucket.com/user/dodgrsm/media/38311673-9b64-4cc9-893f-5142d229b6b6_zps4daff541.jpg.html'> http://s218.photobucket.com/user/dodgrsm/media/f9bfe0c7-077f-4155-9c44-56e4bef657e6_zps7f4a0b48.jpg.html'>
  12. +1 with murkat and cmatthes. Run, Forrest, run! Besides that, strings need changing AND it only has five strings anyway! Um, how would I know if the "buzz" he's talking about, isn't from the saddle that doesn't have the string? Maybe by buying a cheap ass pair of strings, restringing the guitar, and checking it that way? "Personal financial problems" or not, there ain't no excuse in asking for that kind of dough for a guitar and NOT doing that. Sheesh.
  13. The beauty of this is, if the strap fades, you can just get out the marker again. I dunno if it'll be color-fast under stage lights though. I wouldn't wear white or light colors, just in case.
  14. In a word, yes. The Hamer crew was doing some work for Guild at the same time as well, weren't they? I would imagine that the powers that be were keeping them plenty busy. Maybe Jackass can add info on that if he wishes. BTW, welcome to the HFC, Jackass!
  15. WOO HOO! VERY VERY NICE! For some reason, I want to call it "The Joker". I also want to call Dibs.
  16. As the saying goes, "Trust, but verify." The first part might be optional, depending on the circumstances. Edited to add: The TGP crowd ain't necessarily the same as the HFC crowd. Just sayin'.
  17. Don't forget what Feynman said about the gold hardware!
  18. Higher-end Yamahas are underrated! Great build quality, and used ones don't usually break the bank. Now, if you can just find a minty early '90's Yamaha Weddington Custom... Ain't single life wunnerful? No worries about anybody getting "irritated"...except maybe the neighbors when you crank your amp's volume!
  19. Imagine the disappointment of the Beliebers.
  20. So, if you use Rush stamps for your mail, will it get there faster?
  21. Nickel .009s on electrics, either D'Addario or Slinkys. D'Addario Custom Light (.011-.052) Phosphor Bronze on my Ovation acoustics (non-electric models). Standard tuning, sometimes down half a step, depends on my mood and the weather.
  22. +1! My stepdad used to do exactly this with a little informal music group made up of members from his church. The residents do enjoy and appreciate it, and the players had fun even though it's a community activity thing rather than a paying gig.
  23. The most expensive guitar I own is a USA Hamer...so the value will hopefully be a little north of Tree Fitty to a motivated buyer.
  24. There will be another time, another bargain, they DO happen. Next time, it might be something even better! But I wouldn't look too hard and long, until after school is complete. I am SO glad that I didn't have the Internet(s) around to distract me when I went through school!
  25. I wish I wasn't reminded of this :
