  1. No music lately, other than what the radio randomly throws at me...but when I get the urge, I just go to YouTube (I'm lazy that way). 'Ace Of Spades' sounds good, though this late at night, it'll be like a cuppa coffee and wake me up but good:
  2. Anybody know of a 'shootout' review between the USA model and the MIM yet? I'm curious to find out how the 'Fideli'Tron' pickup compares to the TV Jones models in the USA versions. +1! They have the Fender 'limited edition' sticker on the back of the headstock, so I suspect that they won't be around long... Edited to add: Specs are here, Fender says the neck is a 'modern 'C' shape': http://www.fender.com/products/search.php?partno=0140072306
  3. Saw this today online, thought it worth posting here:
  4. If you've gotta have the narrow neck width of a Jazz, but with a P-Bass pickup, this might do it: http://www.fender.com/products/search.php?partno=0138301301 Need both a P and a J pickup, too? http://www.fender.com/products/search.php?partno=0146500323 I don't care much for Jazz style pickups, but I DO LOVE P Bass pickups, and P-Basses in general. Fender P basses tend to have a thicker (thus, heavier) body than most 1st Gen Hamers or the Guild Pilots I've had (I've had a few Guild Pilots with the cake-knife headstock in the past--they were OK but I didn't care much for the Poplar bodies under the solid color factory paint schemes on mine). 2nd Gen Hamer Cruise Basses are about the same thickness as Fender solidbody basses, the only downer on those (for me, anyway) is that they have Jazz style pickups. I've never cared much for 1st Gen Cruisebasses as I didn't think they had enough mass for my taste (too light), but I love the heft of the old Blitz bass. YMMV.
  5. Best seat in the house! In the comfort of your own home, drinking your own beer, eating your own food, steps away from your own bathroom. http://www.youtube.com/user/BonnarooMusicFest
  6. Congrats here, too!! Nice to hear a happy story like this.
  7. Those tailpiece mounting studs ARE TonePros, right? Funny how there's nothing said about that. Unless they were available in '96, I'd suspect that part was a retrofit, Even so, those studs were definitely not standard equipment for a '96 Eclipse, IMO. As far as the the string-through comparison with a Eclipse 12 goes, funny that the seller doesn't mention that half the strings on the 12 are top loaded. Lotsa blather in the selling points, as Austin and Kiz have pointed out. I LOVE this quote, as it isn't exactly my idea of a selling point: 'I've had this thing for about 7 years, and you can tell when you look at it that it has gone to hell and back, but it keeps asking for more!'
  8. 1. I like straight grained wood. Hate knots of any type, even the little ones from twigs. 2. I hate 'neck creak' from the neck/body join of a bolt-on neck. Especially when the bolts are as tight as they'll go. 3. Sound is more important than eye candy of ANY kind. If I have a choice in eye candy, let it be nice looking wood. 4. Just because nobody else likes it doesn't mean it's no good.
  9. Why? If anything was a factor in me buying gear or getting rid of gear, that's not it.
  10. I'm still going with my previous statement. Sounds to me that the 'path of least resistance' that the dealer is taking, is through YOU, rather than through his insurance company. Does this sound like a business that you still want to do business with again, after this? I wouldn't worry too much about offending their sense of trust, as it sounds to me like they're sure trying to offend YOURS.
  11. I'd think something like the 'Three Second Rule' applies here...but NOT as in 'music' videos. That is, if it stayed in the hanger for more than a minute (a reasonable amount of time), you're good. If you're out of the store when it happened, they could just as well blame it on earthquakes brought on by fracking, for all they know.
  12. 1. You have a crap reputation at HC 2. You do a deal with someone on the HFC who knows nothing of your reputation 3. Deal has problems Coincidence? Yeah, probably. Since your side of the story is apparently nobody's business, chances are there won't be a "next" for you here in terms of dealing gear. Very enlightening when you stack 'em together...IN context, too. IndianScout sure isn't inspiring my confidence in HIM. I indeed DO have a 'dog in this horse', as the HFC is second to NONE in my book. I haven't sold here, but I HAVE bought a few guitars from the regulars and old timers here. The transactions went as smooth as silk, and exceeded my expectations, and I haven't been the only one that had the same great experience. Does it matter that it stays that way? HELL YEAH!
  13. Unfortunately, no DVD issue yet, apparently. There's a petition online to have it released (597 signatures so far), the petition text has some interesting Police 'live' details in it as well: Edited to include this (doh!): http://www.petitiono...4/petition.html The Police used to be a helluva live band, before things got production driven. Back when I was still using cassettes (pre-CD or IPod, natch), I had put 'Around The World' on cassette for my own use. It's still better than any live Police CD release that I can think of, IMO.
  14. My vote's for 'Can't Stand Losing You', you can even substitute 'CD's' for 'records' in the lyrics. The Police used to blend it together live with their instrumental 'Regatta De Blanc', if you've got the old VHS tape of 'The Police Around The World' live stuff, it seriously ROCKS.
  15. It was for guitar strings, actually- the by-line was, "they keep on rocking as long as you do" or something like that...I have a copious stash of old guitar for the practicing musicians in otherwise excellent condition. Yup, that's the one, thanks! I coulda sworn it was tapes, and that he looked more 'metal' than that, and a little less like Sammy Hagar. Oh well, time does funny things to memory.
  16. There used to be a fairly common magazine ad here in the US, back in the late '70's or sometime in the '80's for recording tape and/or cassettes (no, NOT the Maxell guy sitting in a chair getting blasted by his stereo), the topic of the ad had something to do with tape longevity (unfortunately, not as a format ). Anyhoo, the ad pictured a guy bare chested, wearing leather pants, boots, belts & studs (the usual metal stuff) and playing a Flying V. He was skinny, had long hair but was balding, and wore horn rimmed glasses, looked about 60 or 70 years old. I thought it was funny then, and kinda ironic now. I've done some Google searches under Maxell, TDK, BASF, Scotch/3M, but haven't found it yet. Hopefully, someone else here will have better luck. Anybody remember it?

  18. A very sad day indeed. RIP, Jim. P.S. Quite a lot of achievements for a drummer! Edited to add: I couldn't get onto the Marshall website, apparently I wasn't the only one checking for info! www.marshallamps.com
  19. Neither. I once had a Koa-topped II, I didn't bond with it. The scale length didn't make it 'different' enough for me, I suppose. I didn't care for the volute on the back of the neck, either.
  20. Nice guitar! Let me be the first to call dibs and offer the traditional HFC price of tree fitty.
  21. $900 ain't bad, all things considering. Hamer USA resale values for the most part suck compared to other comparable USA made guitars...a HFC lament since forever. BUT, if you're planning to get some use out of it vs. buying it to look at it for awhile then flip it, then I don't think it's bad. Even though I have no disposable income at the moment, it's just my 'two cents', figuratively speaking.
  22. +1! You'd think they'd have a nice English ale in there, but noooooo...
  23. Oh, is THAT what that was in that Honda van? http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8cnss3F6yxA
  24. It's got that Mason Williams 'Classical Gas' vibe, kinda. Edited to add: Maybe it's because it's being played on a classical guitar, they ALL sound that way, heh. I wonder if he'll do Rebecca Black's 'Friday' next?
