  1. I know I've told this story before, but it should be told again. We were at the first Atlanta guitar show in 1989. Somehow, Gil was dealt booth space next to Atlanta Discount Music. They had about five booths combined with everything including drums and keyboards. It was so loud that Gil got more pissed by the hour. He hadn't had anything to drink (and that was not the norm back then) and took matters into his own hands. The Korina V you mentioned was in Gil's booth with the red cherry burst and some other great guitars. Gil grabs the Korina V and goes up to the bar. I see him flip it upside down and the bartender, after much prodding, put four cocktail napkins on the back of the V. She then put four Crown on the rocks drinks on the guitar. Gil started acting as if he was drunk and barely able to walk. He staggered right next to a triple stand of Korg keyboards and pretended to trip. All the liquor went all over the keyboards and the un-carpeted floor below them. He actually almost fell, but that guitar was never in danger. He smirked at me as he entered his booth. The sales weasel from ADM started asking what happened. Gil apologized and the promoter came over to see what the ruckus was all about. By then, they figured out he wasn't drunk. Curiously, they moved Gil to another booth space where the vendor hadn't shown up on Friday. The best part is Gil bought all of us still on that aisle drinks for the remainder of the day. He was the "King" in all respects. Even had the crown on, when this transpired. People that know him know this is a true story. I miss seeing him.
  2. No. I tried to buy that one too! Mine was black and it had an old Dano lipstick tube pickup in the front. It also had a mother of toilet-seat guard from the "factory". I traded the Generator and some cash for a really nice '58 Cherry Junior with the cleanest chipboard case I've ever seen. He bought the Junior back from me a year later at Arlington.
  3. I played Saturday night. Started at 2:30pm loading the gear. Arrived at the venue at 3:45. Set up by 5:30pm. Sound check until 6pm. Started at 7pm. Played three sets of 10 and finished at 10:30pm. Home by midnight. Gained an hour. Slept until NFL in Germany came on. We play five or six times a year. After every gig, I wish it was my last. Then, in about six weeks, I think I want to do another one. We only play often enough that we can get 100 people to show up. If you play too often, the numbers dwindle. Friends and family are supportive, but not every two weeks! $120 a man per gig. I think it's about $12/hr.
  4. I had one. Sold it to Gil Southworth. I think only Billy had the concave body model.
  5. It was a bi-Centennial pair. Firebird in white with the red, white and blue bird on the guard. Matching white Explorer. I could have sworn...
  6. The best one I've owned is my Sonic Guitars replica by Paolo Sulcuni in Italy. It's super light and rings like a piano, when strummed. My 4-digit "0221" is a close second. Never had a good Gibson one, except for a 1976 white one that Kizanski tells me never existed...
  7. The inlays don't appear to be out of whack in this pic from the show.
  8. That's Craig Brody's at Guitar Broker in Lauderdale. He just scored that from our own Mr. Fung at a guitar show last week. Rare as hen's teeth.
  9. One of those guitars that goes out of tune, if you are a little ham-handed. Meh.
  10. I know. I know. But it happened. I replicated it over and over for all the band members, so they'd think I wasn't crazy.
  11. So, our first gig with the new bass player. Our previous guy passed away five weeks ago and was with us for over 35 years, so it was a challenging day to begin with. I know some of you that know my sense of humor here on the forum will tell me we were haunted. So, I've already considered that as a hypothesis. Seriously, the bass player sent me a direct 1/4" to our Line6 Soundstage board. Our keyboard player sends me a "Main out" from his stage mixer consisting of five keyboards. He uses a Roland keyboard stage amp. HOW COULD THE BASS BE COMING OUT OF THE KEYBOARD PLAYER'S STAGE MONITOR/AMP????? To remedy, we had the bassist play a little louder on stage than we'd like and I took the direct directly to the Sub. Worked okay, but I like a little bass in the mains too. Any serious ideas? Hmmm. Humor is welcomed. It's been a tough month.
  12. Fretsonthenet made my oversize Jackson Soloist humbucker rings. But he couldn't do glossy. More of a brushed look. Maybe things have changed.
  13. Pots changed? If not, that's as good a way to date it as any. A buddy of mine has one with an alder body in sunburst and it weighs about two pounds less than the maple body models. He had both and the alder one sounded much better acoustically and he sold the maple one. It was a '74. I always loved the look of those.
  14. I always feel good knowing more than some "expert". I have the book.
  15. Offers or trades are welcome. I want to move this great guitar to somebody looking for a great sounding "ES-335" in a Les Paul's body.
  16. I don't. I have a few, but they're keepers. Did you try Mr. Fung (HamStd)? I'm sure he has something lying around!
  17. I have so much other stuff to sell, it's just not on my radar. I haven't forgotten.
