Buzz, Hum, Noise and Pedalboards

This might be really stupid, but also make sure you’re phone isn’t sitting on or near your amp, or where it can cause noise. Just an afterthought -

This may be way too left field, but any interest in a Trans Scale Steinberger? It def has the trem and the light weight. It’s also got Joe Satriani’s autograph on it. Which will either be a benefit, or not lol, you can certainly buff it off easily. Lmk if I can help. GLw/Search -

That is a super cool project! Keep us updated! -
No shame in finding good ideas! I know this isn’t exactly what you’re asking for, but these are some really great ideas. First, the great Dan Erlewine showing how to properly change Acoustic guitar strings (the string wrapping section still applies to electric guitars): How to install Classical Guitar Strings: For the Whammy bar guys, Carl Verheyen’s technique for setting up a floating trem on a strat is AMAZING! In this video he shows how on a Squier or something and it’s pretty amazing how accurate it is. Check it out:

Some quick tricks you might already know: 1-if using a gate, put it first in the fx loop, not after-pedals-before-preamp. Dimebag used to use a Rocktron Guitar Silencer this way and was how I came across the idea. Try your gate pedal this way. 2-the EHX Hum De-Bugger pedal is freakin magic for killing mystery hum in a lot of weird scenarios, in my experience. If you use single coils for anything and tube amps live just get one and take it to all gigs. At Buddy Guy’s Legends in Chicago the stage is built right over a major neighborhood transformer and they tried everything under the sun to tame it. Eventually they found the EHX HDB pedal right before the input to the house backline tube amps was the magic fix. I didn’t believe it myself until the sound guy smirked and said click it off and back on… EEEEEEHHH … dead quiet. Whale Oil Beef Hooked 🤷🏼♂️ -

Andy Wood! He’s a monster! The Albert Lee Advanced Country Guitar video with Askold Buk is the Rosetta Stone for that stuff, I think. I’m sure you can find the videos on YT, and the book with transcriptions and supporting comments by AB is a game changer, if you’re looking to learn more of that style. 👍 -

New Boss Pedals. Poly Shifter.

This is a pretty amazing song from the first Govt Mule album. The Leslie sound is actually a Korg G-4 pedal which sounds amazing. The solo at 3:30 is the OC-2 setting I was talking about: This is the other type of solo I was referring to, using the Whammy; Shane Kirsch is a really interesting dude, I think, as a horn player and a composer, and when I played with him it definitely forced me to approach things differently. Solo after 3:30 uses a WH-2 into an 99 Fulltone Fulldrive2 and a Verbzilla set to the Octave setting (like “shimmer”; delayed sound pitched up an octave to make the ambience sound big). Hope you dig! -

Warren Haynes’ work on the first Govt Mule record featured the OC-2 and sounds amazing. Very important to set it so that it’s not crazy drastic (turd farting lol). But some great examples of him using the octave as a thickener for solos. It’s like Insta-balls in a power trio setting. If the new-fangled one has a vintage oc-2 setting that’s what I’d shoot for. And the best version of the whammy pedal was the WH-2, bc you could toggle between two settings; I used the One-octave up whammy setting (for synthy sounding leads), and toggled to the harmony octave down (like the Warren Haynes octave thickener setting). Used that for two records with a Synth-Funk band called “The Fuzzy Flow” led by saxophonist Shane Kirsch (ex P-Funk). -

Have you tried graph tech saddles? They’re a big fix for me; sound great, feel great, tune great, bend great, nearly never break. -

I already have a tap tempo delay on the Flyrig I like a lot, but for syncing other fx nice to know that problems already solved. Is it possible to edit on iPad? I have several iPads I almost never use. iPad Air etc All the way back to ipad2. Could you use an iPad that’s already in a drawer as an editor and legacy device? Basically like a hard drive for patches? Maybe the tech needs a phone not an ipad to sync? Idk Tia! -
Going to see Cheap Trick tomorrow

Sorry for delay! Maaaaannnn, much has already been mentioned… My experience was very Spinal Tap overall haha. I did not love Ricks playing, Robin sounded very good, I had a great time. It was the Duchess county fair in upstate NY. My wife is originally from the area and wanted to go, so she actually bought the tickets. Since she was driving I traded messages with Jol Dantzig and it was nice to connect with him but did not see him that day- he has been to those fairgrounds for auto events but was not coming to that gig. The weather was cold and rainy but it’s a huge fairgrounds with large buildings of indoor dealers booths and it was fine walking around with an umbrella and wandering around the hucksters tables. I bought some sunglasses lol. The stage was nearly submerged in the inner ring of a dirt track and the audience was shuffled in the rain to either the covered stands or a couple hundred plastic lawn chairs set out front. Our seats were in the stands. Started the show with a song about starting the show, Rick and Robin looking less than limber but wearing head to toe sequins was a nice touch. Bass player Tom looked like a shaggy Lou Reed and played all downstrokes with a pick, including his mid set bass “solo”. Drummer was totally solid. The set was built on a solid hour of unrecognizable dinosaur squall and Rick Schtick; yes he changed guitars every song but the 5-neck didn’t make an appearance. Mostly Les Pauls and Explorers, two classic Hamers. He struggled to play. All power and cowboy chords played poorly and solos that were exclusively first box Pentatonic and not good. Not “cool and sloppy”, but appearing to try to sell that. Robin played solid rhythm guitar for most of the show. The one solo that would call to be melodic was “The Flame” (which RZ started solo acoustic, played in the original key and sang very well) and RN whiffed it pretty bad. My wife looked at me and said deadpan, “Rick Nielsen is not a good guitar player” and I choked on my vape for a second. 😂 They did play 4 hits: The Flame and Dream Police, and as an encore; I Want You to Want Me and Surrender. As I said, I had a good time, Robin sounded generally very good, I can’t imagine why they didn’t do any of their more popular stuff or covers, but Rick was pretty cringe. Anybody know who the drummer is on this tour and anything about the Setlists? -

Eh, I don’t edit patches and depend on where they’re stored, The HX is for when I need to load Band or Song patches; this is so I can have a few different flavors of mod in the loop, nothing too demanding. For tap tempo, what do you mean per block basis?
