crunchee Posted June 11, 2024 Posted June 11, 2024 No affiliation. Nice interior gutshot photos, even has a rout for a neck pickup (apparently by '55, Fender used the same bodies for Esquires and Teles regardless). Has a masking tape label inside the control cavity with a 1955 date and "Gloria". Expensive but as Stan Jay used to say, "Go find another one". Used Esquire '55 – Dave's Guitar Shop (davesguitar.com)
kizanski Posted June 11, 2024 Posted June 11, 2024 My '58 Esquire was a beast. Those were the days. Sold it for substantially less than this one, that's for sure.

Not anymore, he's dead now and has been for several years, and apparently so is his old store, "Mandolin Bros.", from looking at their old website.

santellavision Posted June 12, 2024 Posted June 12, 2024 Holy Moly, that's a lot for that. I sold my '59 about 10 years ago for 1/3 of that and it was in EX condition.
Cboss Posted June 12, 2024 Posted June 12, 2024 What is an educated guess on what they bought it for?
JGale Posted June 12, 2024 Posted June 12, 2024 I’ll take “Put it a closet and hope like hell they get their money back someday” for $800 Alex.

If you're referring to DGS when you say 'they', maybe 'they' didn't buy it...it might be on consignment, where DGS gets a cut of the take whenever the sale happens.
Cboss Posted June 13, 2024 Posted June 13, 2024 Yes Dave's. Maybe consignment, but also maybe somebody walked in and said what will you give me for this
stedge Posted June 13, 2024 Posted June 13, 2024 Dgs woulda paid 50-60pct of retail i suspect - if they bought rather than consign it. But why would they buy it? i would think they consign and keep 25-30 pct plus any charges to the seller/owner for set up and other “necessary” upkeep. Zero risk. Maybe if it sells for big bucks cut the pct a little. But make a lot of $$ for little effort and investment
hamerhead Posted June 13, 2024 Posted June 13, 2024 "Shipping calculated at checkout. " Gee, Dave....
cmatthes Posted June 13, 2024 Posted June 13, 2024 I sold my mint ‘61 Slab board Esquire for $4,980 in 1997, which would be the equivalent of maybe $10k today. That was probably a bargain!

What would you expect a 1955 Fender with original parts to sell for? Considering prices on Gibson from the same period this is not a bad price.

But, since Bonamassa has cornered the market, there aren't many left - haha.

Kinda depends on how long buyers can sit on their hands waiting for that to happen. Dave's has a 1940 Super 400 archtop that's been sitting around their store for about a year, and it's been marked down. It's still there, though.
