Cboss Posted October 8, 2024 Posted October 8, 2024 Does anyone know what company made the Hamer labelled potentiometers that came in our guitars? Specifically 70's/80's guitars Quote
0 Jakeboy Posted October 8, 2024 Posted October 8, 2024 They are my faves. Mojotone makes some that are similar… 2 Quote

0 bruce919 Posted October 10, 2024 Posted October 10, 2024 I know the early models had Dimarzio pots, not sure if they changed vendors. Once they were owned by Kaman they changed supplier on some items. 3 Quote
0 Dutchman Posted October 10, 2024 Posted October 10, 2024 Not sure of the 70's pots, but the late 80's and 90's pots I had apart in attempts to repair where built like CTS pots. If you have one not working take it apart and clean the part that contacts the strip. Usually full of crap and work well after. Saving the pot! 4 1 Quote
0 luis Posted October 23, 2024 Posted October 23, 2024 Centralab, until 1988, CTS then. I have some sets I got from Alpep 15 years ago. CTS Hamers have the special curve and 400K, DiMarzio Centralabs are similar in pecs to old ones. 1 1 Quote
0 Jimbilly Posted October 23, 2024 Posted October 23, 2024 these are in my '85 Cruise bass, 137 is the code for CTS, and 84 should be the year they were built 1 Quote
0 luis Posted October 23, 2024 Posted October 23, 2024 Very courious, my DiMarzios Centralab are from 1984. Quote

0 Jakeboy Posted February 15 Posted February 15 (edited) @Dutchman I have several Hamer pots that don’t work after being heated too many times swapping pickups….I will try to repair them. My fave pots ever. Edited February 15 by Jakeboy 1 Quote
0 HSB0531 Posted February 16 Posted February 16 I'm pretty sure that CTS was the OEM supplier for most every MI pot made in the 1970's and on. Allen Bradley was an OEM manufacturer who made even higher quality pots for MI, consumer, and mil-spec. Quote

They may still. The Hamer taper was probably 10 or 20% If RS doesn't have it, the shaft/top plate/inner assembly that contains the carbon trace can be replaced while keeping the casing with the Hamer/build date code. what you be looking for is a 500K ohm log (linear) type pot with a 10% or 20% curve. Then take the back shell off the Hamer pot and add it to the new one. https://rs-guitarworks.myshopify.com/ and: https://guitarelectronics.com/guitar-wiring-faqs/ Edited March 16 by HSB0531 2 Quote
0 Hbom Posted March 16 Posted March 16 (edited) Every time I'm tempted to sell my old Hamer parts I remember that I might need something someday. Close the drawer. Go back to sleep. edit: What would code FR8526 0814 indicate? Edited March 16 by Hbom Quote

Seems similar to my Studio Custom but I have not measured all of them to compare. 1 Quote

I learned my lesson with my '73 Fender. I threw out the original pup when I bought the Dimarzio Model P in 1978. 2 Quote
