django49 Posted September 8, 2025 Posted September 8, 2025 Yeah, if someone came along to offer $500 for my KTR (first run) I reckon I would be able to give it up. Maybe falling back on the Tumnus. 2 Quote
Victor (Fret Friend) Posted September 8, 2025 Posted September 8, 2025 The Golden Horse/Pure Sky combo blew me away! Gonna have to go grab that Pure Sky to pair it with my Tumnus Deluxe 1 Quote
LucSulla Posted September 8, 2025 Posted September 8, 2025 Glad he mentioned Josh from JHS in this because he's been preaching that for years. That's how I used my Mastodrive for a few years. I usually used it to add dirt to a clean channel or take moderate gain to high gain. I was running either an SD-1 or Lovepedal Eternity Drive in front for this and that. Sounded really good. I sold that pedal because I found the Lovepedal Plexi pedals did a better job in that application and have been just heartbroken that I did that lately because Brent Hinds had hand written notes in the first run. I tend to not "collect" gear, so when that left the board, after about six months of living on a shelf. I sold it. 1 Quote
geoff_hartwell Posted September 8, 2025 Posted September 8, 2025 I love Klon klones! I always pair some kind of M-style or TS with a K after. The best Klone available to my knowledge is the Mosky Silver Horse and it’s $27. Buy two! 4 Quote
duncans Posted September 8, 2025 Posted September 8, 2025 I've used the Aluminum Falcon by PCE for years, but I have a couple other klones as well. Quote
Dutchman Posted September 8, 2025 Posted September 8, 2025 I built one of Josh's Not a Clon It's not a clon. Still sounds good tho! I could never see the whole Clon thing. So many other fantastic OD's out there. I'm still using my Barber LTD from early 2000. Still a more better pedal. 1 Quote
santellavision Posted September 8, 2025 Posted September 8, 2025 I had an original Klon on my gigging board (Below) for years (Before they went ballistic) Yeah, it was really nice, but not worth 4-5K or more. I bought one of those Chinese Klones for $40 and it sounded just as good. I also had a Tumnus and it sounded great too. 2 Quote
Jim85IROC Posted September 10, 2025 Posted September 10, 2025 (edited) Back when the Klone hype was at its peak, I picked up one of the Klones from ebay, along with a Joyo Tauren. I'd watched a bunch of klon comparisons where reviewers would set all the knobs at the same spot then endlessly compare the tone differences. I assumed that was all BS because most of these all use the same circuit, and most also use very cheap pots with very inconsistent resistances and inconsistent sweeps. In other words, they were just comparing the differences in pot values, not actual differences in the respective circuits. I bought my two, and sure enough with the pots all at 12:00 the pedals sounded different, but turn the pots a little bit and it doesn't take long to make them sound identical. Once I confirmed that, I sold off the Klone and kept the Joyo because it looked cooler and took up less room. It's still my favorite pedal. Edited September 10, 2025 by Jim85IROC 3 Quote
Travis Posted September 11, 2025 Posted September 11, 2025 Watched that video today. Got my klon clone (Mythos Mjolnir) ready to go once I can play thru my real amps at any respectable volume… 1 Quote

He got a batch of some sort of special diode that meant something special to those in the know. They were sold out within a few minutes and I missed out. Not that I could ever tell the difference. 1 Quote
mudshark Posted September 15, 2025 Posted September 15, 2025 Surely somebody who knows what they;re doing would have no problem copying a circuit. Quote

Most of the Klon hype these days is just exclusivity and conspicuous consumption, not unlike the Pappy Van Winkle prices for the last 15 years. Here's my favorite video I've seen on Klons vs. Klones lately. Quote
