alantig Posted November 10, 2025 Posted November 10, 2025 Ordered the Muffy today (the Tad and Buffy were OOS). Debated quite a while between that and the Mop Top, but I have the UA Vox plugin, so... 1 Quote

velorush Posted November 15, 2025 Posted November 15, 2025 (edited) Follow up: plugged the Blonde direct into an unaffected channel in the X32 at church. Very usable sounds. Fantastic to have two identical “channels” for variation. The Screamer sim sounds like a tube screamer. I ran a Flashback in front of it and it worked great. Definitely more practical for me than micing an amp and the tones are absolutely close enough. I want to try other pedals in front of it now. For example, how does the on-board Screamer compare to my favorite Screamer, the Menatone Red Snapper? Thanks everyone. Great recommendation! Edited November 15, 2025 by velorush 4 Quote
velorush Posted November 18, 2025 Posted November 18, 2025 And now I'm curious about the Fuzzy Britt. Can anyone comment on whether it's better than simply running something like a Wampler Plexi, Catalinbread DLS, etc into the Screaming Blonde set to clean? I'm thinking the Character knob on the Fuzzy Britt would give it a one-up over that scenario. 1 Quote

I'm thinking the Character knob on the Fuzzy Britt would give it a one-up over that scenario. given the subtle differences between some of the tech 21 stuff I've compared, and that a Marshall is "just a modded bassman", along with how much I like the Plexi Deluxe, my guess is you'd be pretty satisfied with the blonde, - but more pedals = more fun too... Since this thread is still going, here's a serving suggestion: I used the Liverpool as the B channel DI, I think it worked pretty well. Pretty funny that I owned zero of this gear 1 year ago. First in line is a JHS Morning Glory, the white pedal is a TC Elec Mimiq. A bunch of money was spent on a rewire and new sound board, and there's a lot less noise in the house, I was able to use the plug in power supply and the Joyo battery was just in case there was too much noise plugging into house power. The Vox Pathfinder is just for my personal monitor, and it works great for that. 5 Quote
golem Posted November 18, 2025 Posted November 18, 2025 I bought the blond. Through a PA I want to say it's a tad too uncompressed to feel natural but gets better with the tubescreamer on. I haven't tried it through an actual amp. If I wasn't buying stupid amounts of gear right now through acquaintences I probably would be more inclined to grab somemore due to FOMO. 2 Quote
velorush Posted December 7, 2025 Posted December 7, 2025 Quick question for those of you who own the Character Series: is everyone getting a good bit of noise if the pedal is set anywhere above unity gain? The first time I tried it out I was hooked into the board at church playing my Strat and had a good bit of 60/120 hz hum/buzz. I attributed the noise to the (normally pretty quiet) single coils. Trying it out a few more times at home using the Out into a clean amp I was getting the same issue, Strat or humbuckers. Then I noticed I had it set with a significant jump in volume going from bypass to either channel. When I reduced the output to unity gain the noise seemed to disappear (or fade into the normal presence of the amp). Is that just how these are to be run? Thanks. Quote
velorush Posted January 29 Posted January 29 Is this deal done? I was trying to help a young guitarist in a church near ours deal with a persistent "it's too loud" issue and tried to send him a link to the Sweetwater listing. Couldn't find it on Sweetwater so I tried the link in the initial post of this thread and got: Sorry, the Tech 21 SansAmp Character Plus - Screaming Blonde is no longer available. We've left this page up for reference only. That's not, "oh, it's back to the original price," that's "yes, we have no bananas." Googling, I didn't find anywhere that was selling them (new) at a discount and found only a couple of outlets at the original price. Did Sweetwater empty the warehouse? To be sure, it's a handy bit of kit, but $99 is a heckovalot easier to swallow than $250. Quote

I am absolutely grateful for the prompt received on this board as it coincided with an opportunity to join a project that would have been practically impossible with a conventional amp. This thing works great! I sent the guy a couple of links to used units on Reverb. 2 Quote
Saul Goodman Posted January 29 Posted January 29 I picked up the Brian May one and gave it to a friend before Christmas. I figured they would sell out. He really likes it. Good luck finding one. 1 Quote
Pieman Posted January 29 Posted January 29 I liked the HiWatt/Muff version so I decided to try the MopTop Liverpool. Sold out. But I clicked on the WishList option and about a week later, I got an offer on an open box for $89. Try that maybe some late December buyers are returning under 30 day deal. 4 Quote
Ham Rex Posted February 2 Posted February 2 Does anyone have one of these Screaming Blonds for sale? Quote

Strat through this is magic* even with me bumbling through the setlist. I would definitely like to try one of the more English types, too. *ETA: I thought about this post last night some hours after making it. "Magic" is a pretty strong term. I should have been more elaborate in my description. I will revise it to say, in the context of a band the Screaming Blonde provides versatile, useful and convincing Fenderesque guitar tones with the incredible benefit of no amp load-in / -out and zero stage volume. The conventional rig to provide what the Blonde approximates (as I am using it) would be a Tweed Twin and a Blackface Twin with an input switcher. I am convinced the incremental cost and logistics of such a rig would not be worth the difference in experience. [/caveats] 😉 Edited February 2 by velorush 4 Quote

velorush Posted February 19 Posted February 19 (edited) To follow up, gigged the Screaming Blonde last night (first time playing out in over 10 years!). I'm even more impressed with it now. It just works. My whole "rig" fits into a briefcase and sounds great. It is actually a little different from this - the Mooer phaser has been replaced with an ElecLady and the strobe tuner is sideways and above the delay, both of which are on 'risers' (small blocks of wood) to make the switches more accessible. Not a single negative comment from the audience about compromised tone due to the absence of an amp. 😉 Again, I can't thank @Jimbilly and everyone else who encouraged me to buy this. What we pulled off last night would have been infinitely more difficult if I had had to mic an amp. ETA: current configuration: Edited February 22 by velorush 2 Quote
