0 Hbom Posted July 9 Posted July 9 I don't keep up with all the newer brands and offers but I think the Bare Knuckles Yard bird neck pup would work pretty well at that task. Great for blues and supposed to be terrific for jazz. 2 Quote

0 Dave Scepter Posted July 9 Posted July 9 Alnico II or III Single Coils (e.g., Seymour Duncan Alnico II): These soften the treble response and provide a spongy bass, making them excellent for rolling off the tone knob to achieve a traditional, woody jazz or smooth blues tone without ice-pick highs. Charlie Christian Pickups (e.g., Lollar CC): Revered by jazz greats like Ed Bickert, these large, blade-style pickups provide massive, punchy output with a brilliant, piano-like clarity that handles both swing and blues effortlessly. Low-Wind Humbuckers (e.g., Lollar Imperial Low Wind): Many players route a humbucker into the neck position for thicker, warmer, and more airy tones reminiscent of an old Gibson ES-335.P90 in a Tele Cover (e.g., Harmonic Design Super 90): Gives you the fat, mid-range growl of a P90, adding aggressive bite for blues leads and a dark, jazzy warmth, all without needing major guitar modifications 2 Quote
0 hamerican gigolo Posted July 17 Posted July 17 Cavalier Lion King is a great tele neck pup. 1 Quote
0 hamerican gigolo Posted August 17 Posted August 17 (edited) Just about any vintage style tele neck pup & a .05 tone cap can get you there. Also, adjust your amp settings, if need be. There's a difference between the drawn brass chrome cover & the more modern nickel silver one. Edited August 17 by hamerican gigolo 2 Quote
0 Jakeboy Posted October 4 Posted October 4 Josh winds a killer neck Tele pickup for sure, but my absolute fave is a Rumpelstiltskin Original Black Knight (for both bridge and neck). It is based off the original 1950 Broadcaster neck pickup. Smooth enough for jazz and yet will still bring the rock and blues tones. If you are gonna put an HB sized pickup in there, I’d find a Duncan Double D neck pickup which Hamer put in the Talladega. That is a perfect jazz pickup for those so inclined and skilled. It also does blues very, very well. 1 Quote
0 django49 Posted Monday at 03:44 PM Posted Monday at 03:44 PM (edited) My dearly departed jazz buddy looked for his "ideal" Tele for a long time. (He had some excellent Andersen archtops, but.....) He finally did get a custom T-type built for him by Danocaster (before his prices skyrocketed). Had a Lollar Low Wind Imperial in the neck. He was also a proponent of the Charlie Christian pickups. Note that Lollar makes that in the traditional size and also a smaller one that seems like it would be a good fit for a Tele. This demo from a guy that knows his way around guitars may not be 100% on point, but might point you in the right direction. I know there are other Tim Lerch videos around if you want to chase them down. FWIW, when I ordered my Grez Grand Tour (archtop) I had it equipped with a pair of CCs. Yeah, not at all like a Tele, but......😉 ETA...... Edited Monday at 03:47 PM by django49 1 Quote
