Skynyrd's crew hated that Peavey gear. The tube amps constantly blew up, totally unroadworthy. The bass gear was solid, it's said.

I played thru a Mace for a few shows. It had EV speakers in it. FOH guy threatened to pour gas on it and burn it if he saw it on the backline again. Next show I was sporting a Boogie.

Hopefully it was a Boogie coliseum head.  😁 

 

I watched that video earlier today.  I want that pedal if it ever comes out.  

There is a Mace at my house.  It is fun to crank, but not to move.  There are cars that weigh less.

The other guitar player in the band (1970 something) had a 2x12 Mace combo.  Heavy, loud and rocked. Definitely its own tone. Solid state preamp and six 6L6 output tubes. The built in phaser was kinda weird, but it was the 70s.

My first amp was a Peavey Mace combo.  How I talked my mom into buying that heavy sumbitch for me still amazes me.

I instantly discount anyone holding a clip on mic, especially after having just had it clipped on. Clearly shows you don't know how to work the gear you have.

Lynyrd Skynyrd did not use the Peavey amps on the early albums.  Ed King said he used Marshall while he was in the band.

No pass here. I’ve cut audio feeds of CEOs who tried that bullshit. Lavalier mics are designed to be clipped on to clothing, 4-6”, from the neck.

Yup early Skynyrd was plexis and Ed would use a Twin to carve out different sonic space from Allen & Gary with his Strat.

Live they were hardcore Peavey guys. Gary honestly loved them.

Word. The early Muscle Shoals tracks (with Bob Burns/Rickey Medlocke drumming) have great guitar tones. I think they went back and redid/cleaned up some things for actual release, but the original recordings on, "First (and Last)", are prolly my faves. "...Bullets" and, "Street Survivors", are killer, too. 

I dig LS, but like a lot of classic rock, a little goes a long way these days:

Growing up redneck, I am just now getting to where I don't turn the channel when Skynyrd comes on.

It isn't because it isn't good, but they were among around three bands we listened to drinking beer in the potato fields in high school.

Skynyrd, Bob Seger and maybe 38 Special. Love them but just can't give them any more time.

Classic rock radio overplayed a lot of good music.  Those songs can get... um, "tiresome" on the radio.  In the context of an album they sound great.

Total opposite for me. I hated that shit growing up, well, high school. The backwoods people, fat guts, no shirt, Rebel flags and shotguns in their trucks. Deep brow. Square head. No proper English. Backy-chewin' twang voice. Tearing up fields in their trucks. Drive inn. Always causing fights. I was at a friend's gig in a field somewhere when I was maybe 20, their band wasn't great, but they were the hired band, and a bunch of those fat-belly slobs stormed the stage, took over the instruments, and started playing some sort of redneck Southern Rock. Really pissed us off and nearly caused a ruckus. I don't remember how it ended. I may have gotten in my car and left.

I severely hated it. LS, Molly, Black Foot, etc. I mean, it would make me angry.

Now I like it. Weird, eh? I mean, I don't blast it from my car like they blasted it from their trucks. But if it comes on a movie score, or I hear it in the grocery, or shows up on YouTube, it's kind of nostalgic. I haven't listened to the radio in 50 years. It was shit then and, if it's still around, I'm sure it's shit now. I don't own any Southern Rock albums / CDs so, that's that. But I keep my cowboy chords up playing Freebird fairly often.

I really liked the southern Rock Scene! Played a ton of SR at bikers bars and parties!! Good pay! Great Coke! At the parties you had to stay behind the stage. They where really fussy about that. If you weren't a member you did not mingle. They'd come back stage and talk tho. 

I think the best Southern Rock album ever was Marshal Tuckers "Where We All Belong" there where many, but that's my favorite!
