cmatthes Posted July 27, 2006 Posted July 27, 2006 My guess (again, purely conjecture) is that it went for over $4,000.
Birchard Posted August 1, 2006 Author Posted August 1, 2006 Hello again!First, I'd like to apologize to anyone who requested pics and didn't get them. Being a newbie, the pic upload feature was not turned on for me (or I couldn't figure out how to use it). A special thanks to "mc2" for posting them. "belgian" noticed the Duncan 59 in the neck position but the bridge pu is original and the zebra neck pu will be shipped with the guitar. Thanks to "Punkavanger" for the "classy" comment, I think you're all as classy a bunch as I've ever seen. "wyldbil"s "Cleanup on aisle six!" was hilarious!I spoke with the buyer yesterday and he'll be gone on vacation so the guitar will not be shipped until 8/21. Personally, I'd like the Fed-Ex or UPS guy to hand it to him directly. (I'd be horrified to imagine it sitting on his porch for even 5 seconds.) He says after he gets it in his hands he'll reveal himself, so look for that around 8/25. Again, I'd like to thank you all for making a bittersweet parting with this old battleaxe a fantastic experience. I've met many new friends here. The solo from "Reelin' in the Years", countless others, and studio work I used this guitar on, are permanently burned into my memory!Rock on HFC'ers!Birch
serial Posted August 1, 2006 Posted August 1, 2006 Birch:Please stick around-I'm sure I'm not the only one who would dig hearing "war stories" of your time with that one.

Birchard Posted August 1, 2006 Author Posted August 1, 2006 You asked, so here goes... Story #1 Sammy Hagar (before VanHalen) and Night Ranger were touring together (around "81" and this happened in Texas) . Brad Gillis and Jeff Watson really liked us and would come out to the clubs and jam after their show. Jeff sat in our dressing room and showed me how to correctly play his solo on "Don't Tell Me You Love Me", and also demonstrated his 8 finger technique (he was perfecting it at the time) and used later to record "Rock in America" on old #0240. At the gig, we went out for an encore and I started the song (guitar intro) not realizing the drummer was still in the dressing room. He came running out behind the amp line and I could see he would make it in time to do the song without me stopping so... I kept playing. In his haste to get to his drums in time, he tripped knocking my amp head off the stack and it (now dangling by the speaker and power cords but still working), grazed old #0240 just enough to knock it over. I was quick on the draw and caught the neck just below the nut with my foot before the headstock hit the stage. (possibly exploding the headstock to smithereenies.) My guitar tech ran out to save me and the Hamer. The rest of the band were laughing so hard they were crying. This all brought rousing applause and a standing ovation from the crowd for the entire debacle. I'm sure the song had nothing to do with it. ) Stay tuned for story #2 another day... Birch
Hamerica Posted August 1, 2006 Posted August 1, 2006 Cool Story! My brother is a big Sammy Hagar fan. I had Sammy sign one of my Scarabs at a local radio show promotion. The man is gracious and I know why he is endeared by many of his fans. Great guy!Boy, if this was part one, I can't wait for part IIHamerica

Jim Browne Posted March 27, 2008 Posted March 27, 2008 Chris, All your guitars are beautiful. I started playing in late '79, when many of those were state-of-the-art. I especially like your Schecter/Mighty Mite/Boogie Bodies.

bubs_42 Posted March 27, 2008 Posted March 27, 2008 Everybody look at the first three pic's. That is what a great flame top is as far as I'm concerned. It should "PEEK-A-BOO" . That's a great looking standard someone is going to be lucky.
