Guest Buck Dharma Posted March 2, 2005 Posted March 2, 2005 Ok lets get some guitar talk going today. Let us know your favorite guitar of all time for Shred and then for Blues. Separate guitars obviously, and if you want you can do Hamer then everything else. Should make for some fun discussion. I'll start it off.ShredHamer = Cali other = Gibson Les PaulBlues = Daytona other = Fender Strat
m chops Posted March 2, 2005 Posted March 2, 2005 I don't shred.For blues, I prefer my Newport Pro with Phatcats.
shred dog Posted March 2, 2005 Posted March 2, 2005 for shred= hamer centaura#2for blues=hamer centaura#1 / hamer studio custom
Jeff R Posted March 2, 2005 Posted March 2, 2005 This is my favorite guitar for shredding... This is my favorite guitar for playing bluesy stuff...
Brewmaster Posted March 2, 2005 Posted March 2, 2005 I'm not shredder by a long shot. I missed that entire era and wasn't playing at all because I was busy raising children and working my ass off. Besides that, it never spoke to me. For blues I still prefer a Tele.
teleman Posted March 2, 2005 Posted March 2, 2005 I'm not a shredder either but my modded T-51 w/rosewood is tough to beat for blues.
belgian Posted March 2, 2005 Posted March 2, 2005 No shredding over here. Blues : Newport korina (swampy stuff) and T-51
tobereeno Posted March 2, 2005 Posted March 2, 2005 for shred, the Virtuoso is an obvious choice.for blues, which I don't often play but have recently began to learn from my teacher, I'm getting some remarkably decent tones out of any of my Californians, set to a coil-tapped Parallel Axis humbucker and my teacher's Fender Deluxe.
doody Posted March 2, 2005 Posted March 2, 2005 I couldn't shred if my life depended on it but I do have the obligatory hamer shredder. For the money, everyone should. So for me shred = 87 chapFor blues, my Duotone for accoustic and my t-51. No matter what I try to play, I end up playing muddy and Bo diddly riffs cause i'm addicted and I suck.
Abaco Posted March 2, 2005 Posted March 2, 2005 I made the mistake of selling my last Big Apple Strat recently. That guitar is excellent for shred and blues!I play shreddy stuff on the Hamer Studio Custom. Works great for it.Shred has a bad conotation to many people. Too bad.
Guest Buck Dharma Posted March 2, 2005 Posted March 2, 2005 Just for the record I can't shred either. In fact I'm not very good at blues either but it's fun to talk about.
pesocaster Posted March 2, 2005 Posted March 2, 2005 What about "shred / blues" .... Either way ... This Studio Custom can fill the bill:
HamerHokie Posted March 2, 2005 Posted March 2, 2005 Just for the record I can't shred either. In fact I'm not very good at blues either but it's fun to talk about. If you play blues, you're not shredder material, and vice versa.
Abaco Posted March 2, 2005 Posted March 2, 2005 Just for the record I can't shred either. In fact I'm not very good at blues either but it's fun to talk about. If you play blues, you're not shredder material, and vice versa. Don't be silly. Many shredders can play blues and many blues guys can shred. I just saw Walter Trout the other night...
Travis Posted March 2, 2005 Posted March 2, 2005 Hamers for Shred: Cali and Diablo (although I do shred it up on my Special FM from time to time)Others for Shred: Charvel 650xl and Charvel 750xlHamers for Blues: Artist Korina HB, Special FM, Mirage IOthers for Blues: there are no others for blues
Jeff R Posted March 2, 2005 Posted March 2, 2005 If you play blues, you're not shredder material, and vice versa.I disagree because a lot of the stuff I do is a shredblues hybrid because my main influences on guitar have been blues players and shredders. That's why my 2HB Centaura is my primary guitar for both styles.
holLoWskull Posted March 2, 2005 Posted March 2, 2005 Out of my Hamers, I like my T-62 the best for being one guitar that can do a very good job at both styles. Even though it's not my "#1" guitar (mainly only because I can't get it into drop D tuning and back to E on the fly without the ABM (set to floating instead of against the body) bridge going sharp\flat), it has a GREAT trem, super low action and a nice shaped neck for shredding. It also has some wonderful tone woods and is extremely resonant for some nice bluesy numbers. Oh yeah, AND IT HAS A SET OF SA\SA\89 EMG'S IN IT TOO...
Hunter_Brown Posted March 2, 2005 Posted March 2, 2005 I don't have a colossal collection like some folks, but of the many I do have the ole Gibson Les Paul just about covers all the bases, it's the family dog of the group for sure. Beyond that Fender Strat, Tele, Hamer Special, and LP Junior top the most applicable list. I don't own a conventional 'shredder'.
SteveB Posted March 2, 2005 Posted March 2, 2005 well, if I was going to pick purpose direct guitars:Shred: Hamer CaliBlues: EBMM Silhouette SpecialBut for me in general:Everything: PRS CE-24.

kizanski Posted March 3, 2005 Posted March 3, 2005 Well, I can't shred, so I have no shred guitars.Come to think of it, following that rule, I shouldn't have any guitars at all....
