Hamer Finish Issues

Not looking ot offend or be controversial just to make a point because I see this with other brands... I hear all "I care about is how it plays or sounds" but this guitar is so much better than a Gibson.. I love my Hamers but have had my share of paint flaking off at the tuners, Hameritis, easily chipped... Gibson gets a little orage peel they get crucified for bad QC.. I've shot a lot of paint over the years and if Gibson is shooting nitro they deserve a lot of credit, that stuff isn't that easy to work with.. Ease of application and cost is as much a reason as well as the EPA is why most guitar companies don't use it anymore.. As Mentioned I haven't seen the finish issues on Hamers lately, look like they have it fixed. My latest and current guitars have been good.

Sure looks like a thumb/palm print to me. That's *under* the finish?

Just for clarity, is it the white little bubbles that constitute "pizza day"?

What i have been told, by the most esteemed members of this forum, is that finger print-like stuff = 'pizza day'. Like someone in the finish department had greasey pizza fingers when they were handling the guitars. All the other white milky crap, I'm just not sure what its called (well, I have a few choice words, but....its mothers day and all).

There are finger prints all over this guit. They are definitely under the finish. Its really tough to get the ones on the front to show up. Well, no biggie, I guess someone at the factory was just having a bad day. LOL.

All the Pizza Day issues I've seen close up were on Specials. Rangeing from a Penny size spot on the lower horn to full palm size on the Top. 4 of them in one day to be exact.. Drove all over St. Louis trying to find one. Got side tracked over a Mirage 1 and still came home with nothing....

ahem... Can someone give me a picture of a clownburst example?

Take a look at the recent post regarding Monaco Elite that didnt sell on this forum. It was suggested, again by the forum, that it may not have smoved because of the finish. All I'm sayin' is.......

I will happily accept offers.

The Pizza Day Standard has an entire hand print on the back of the guitar. It's a small hand, but a hand, nonetheless.

Pretty cool, really. It's like the Body Glove Edition Standard.

It wasn't suggested by "the forum" it was suggested by me and I specifically suggested that the pictures actually were not representative of the finish. Pictures tend to make the edges of red-type bursts seem very distinct even if it is not. Just look at the picture in my avatar. It looks like there is a perimeter of orange on my Studio even though the better picture in my signature shows the burst is actually nice and gradual.

I consider "pizza day" and Hameritis to be like Certificates of Authenticity of a USA Hamer, and with a few exceptions, markings of a genuine Arlington Hts shop Hamer.

Don't f with 'em, leave them just as they are. Would ya won't Grampa to get that tattoo removed from his forearm, the one he woke up with after a drunken weekend in Honolulu? You know, the hoolah girl that wiggles when he flexes.

VIVA la PIZZA DAY!

VIVA la HAMERITIS!

VIVA la HOOLAH GIRL!!!

Your point is well taken however. Who knows? Maybe the Museum will want it? Thanks to all for the interesting comments.

If you're not a professional Spin Doctor, you probably ought to be.

Yeah, i've looked through the Pizza Day Standard pics before, i just never really saw the hand print (still don't).

The pics on this thread show the prints very well.

I asked about the little white dots because i've seen these before as well, and wondered if there was an official moniker for them.

I'd call the little white dots hameritis myself.

Anyone who didn't call Hamer on a "pizza day" or "Hameritis" affected guitar... deserves it.

No one should take crap like that on a $200 guitar, let alone a piece of art like a $2,000 Hamer.

....finally the voice of reason. Thanks Armitage.

I'm hella happy with my new Korina Vector, but the pickguard doesn't fit quite right around the pickups (I remember the 97 being...tighter) and the neck 59 was microphonic. Thanks to Greg for getting me in touch with the guys who take care of that stuff. A new one is on the way out. Hameritis? Pizza day? My 97 had Hameritis like a mofo but this one doesn't yet. I expect Pizza day stuff might be kind of hard to see under a plain ol clear finish.

All that said, this is probably the last new guitar I'm going to buy for a long, long time. I can't see another purchase working out any better than this already has.
