stormywaters Posted June 25, 2008 Posted June 25, 2008 I've been watching some of his clips on the YouTube, and I might as well just quit right now. I'm a hack compared to his guy. Given, I play a completely different style, but still. If you aren't familiar, here's one with Chet Atkins: Looking at some of the other Jerry/Chet clips, Chet's got one of the biggest man crushes on Jerry I have ever seen. More Chet/Jerry: "Baby's Comin' Home" Jerry Killing it: Damn.
jwhitcomb3 Posted June 25, 2008 Posted June 25, 2008 Jerry Reed kills! I've got a stack of his CDs. His 70's albums were all over the place: one song folk, the next funk, country schmaltz, cajun stomp, Vegas pop... Pretty hit and miss, but his guitar playing is amazing and his novelty songs are really funny (particularly "Huggin' and Chalkin'").I also liked him in The Survivors with Robin Williams and Walter Matthau. And Gator, with Burt Reynolds.-Jonathan
Imiss85 Posted June 25, 2008 Posted June 25, 2008 I sure hope his wallet says Bad Motherfucker on it.And funnier than hell too. I loved him in Hot Stuff and the first two Smokey and the Bandit movies.
Bruiser Brody Posted June 25, 2008 Posted June 25, 2008 Jerry Reed rules!! Love his playing and sense of humor. What a badass.
Feynman Posted June 25, 2008 Posted June 25, 2008 Good stuff.Edited to add - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=k_RG9W-NVdk&NR=1
hamerican gigolo Posted June 26, 2008 Posted June 26, 2008 I sure hope his wallet says Bad Motherfucker on it.Funny! Jerry is the man!
tomteriffic Posted June 26, 2008 Posted June 26, 2008 I've been told by some folks that Jerry was the only guy who could get away with using the "friendly but ever so slightly condescending" country-ism of "son", when talking with Chet.Check out the "Me and Chet" and "Me and Jerry" albums.
geoff_hartwell Posted June 27, 2008 Posted June 27, 2008 I sure hope his wallet says Bad Motherfucker on it.True Dat.That first clip is Blazin'!My buddy Petey Hop, who's a SLAMMIN fingerstyle player, occasionally refers to himself as "Cheat Atkins".This is probably a stupid question, but did Jerry Reed always play nylon string?
Thundernotes Posted June 27, 2008 Posted June 27, 2008 Jerry gettin' shreddy wit' it.......http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qOGiW-y-Vhs&feature=related
tomteriffic Posted June 27, 2008 Posted June 27, 2008 I sure hope his wallet says Bad Motherfucker on it.This is probably a stupid question, but did Jerry Reed always play nylon string?Never exclusively, but he has for a long time. Albert Lee played the original version of his seminal country rocket-pickin' hit "Country Boy" in the early '70's on a Baldwin classical with a Pyramid piezo pickup, borrowed from (you guessed it) Jerry Reed.By contrast, "East Bound and Down" certainly wasn't a gut-string box.
Hamerica Posted June 27, 2008 Posted June 27, 2008 Yeah man, Amos Moses, just kills! Jerry Reed must have that wallet. Roy Clark is another guitarist that plays both kinds of music - well.Hamerica
Mitch Posted June 27, 2008 Posted June 27, 2008 ...did Jerry Reed always play nylon string?I seem to recall a Glen Campbell TV show many, many moons ago during which Glen and Jerry traded electric riffs. I can't find a clip on youtube, but I think Glen had an Ovation electric and Jerry a Strat. Needless to say, their little guitar duel was hot.
BubbaVO Posted October 24, 2008 Posted October 24, 2008 Saw an article about Jerry Reed in a guitar magazine. He was the real deal:http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ydNck47cuX4...feature=related
