MCChris Posted July 7, 2008 Posted July 7, 2008 So my old friend and very first drummer found me on Facebook and sent me this pic: I guess you could call us an organ trio lol. We were "hired" to play at an outdoor party of some sort. My mom named the band by combining the first two letters of my last name, the first two letters of the keyboardist's last name, and the first three letters of the drummer's last name. Pretty clever, until she ruined it by getting us matching shirts with the band name on them. We were mortified! I'm guessing this was in '81 or '82. That there is my first electric, a double-cut Hondo II. Note the stock coil-tap switch between the volume and tone knobs. I added the "rhythm/treble" pickup selector ring myself. Kind of a cool guitar, actually! As you can see, we performed on the second floor balcony of the drummer's parents' house to keep the throngs of adoring fans at bay. Boy I've lost a lot of hair follicles and gained a lot of pounds since then.
MCChris Posted July 7, 2008 Author Posted July 7, 2008 What's the amp up there? If memory serves, it was a Kay. Soon afterward I upgraded to a Crate CR112.
veatch Posted July 8, 2008 Posted July 8, 2008 What's the amp up there? If memory serves, it was a Kay. Soon afterward I upgraded to a Crate CR112. My first amp was a Crate CR-1. Looked something like this: Actually, it was my brothers. I inherited it when he switched to bass. Oh, the memories.
silentman Posted July 8, 2008 Posted July 8, 2008 Indeed... This is aboot 1985. Love the fasion statement I was trying to pull off. You can see el cheapo amp behind me. Must have sounded great with my DOD American Metal pedal!
MCChris Posted July 8, 2008 Author Posted July 8, 2008 My first amp was a Crate CR-1. Looked something like this:Oddly, the Kay I had was done up in a wooden box motif. Crate had gone to a conventional look by the time I got mine.BTW that Hondo had a string-thru bridge, positively Sustain Block-esque! I wish I still had that guitar.
Jones Posted July 8, 2008 Posted July 8, 2008 Wasn't that pic taken at the Lambda Lambda Lambda house at Adams College? This must have been before Booger joined.

Thundernotes Posted July 8, 2008 Posted July 8, 2008 Skinny guy, skinny tie.......this one was taken in Germany in '86. I still have the '79 Sunburst, actually. The bass player has a very early Porsche-pearl-painted Warwick "Streamer" bass. That's a rare bird! I have other pix around and as soon as I get my scanner figured out, I'll post 'em.
Camstone Posted July 8, 2008 Posted July 8, 2008 This wasn't my first band, but it is an old picture of me in a recording studio from 1979. I'm playing my '77 Sunburst. I am 21 years young in this pic.
ET_KenW Posted July 8, 2008 Posted July 8, 2008 So that's where The Rub really started. LOL Weren't you still wearing those sunglasses last weekend?

Guest pirateflynn Posted July 9, 2008 Posted July 9, 2008 What tunes were you guys playing back then?
JGale Posted July 9, 2008 Posted July 9, 2008 Wait! Now I get it! Young studs with serious fashion sense PLUS rather suggestive guitar shapes = subliminal advertising for young cuties in the crowd. IT'S ALL ABOUT THE LOOK!
Dutchman Posted July 9, 2008 Posted July 9, 2008 I'm digging the Keyboard stand, after the gig belly up to the bar with your own stool.
FunkyE9th Posted July 9, 2008 Posted July 9, 2008 I think this one is '84 or '85. Our drummer had his own darkroom and he blurred my left hand when he developed the picture, so it looks like I'm playing fast. Yup, before photoshop. And no that is not a keyboard tie.

Is that a Falcon? I still think those early Washburns are a little under-rated...
mathman Posted July 9, 2008 Posted July 9, 2008 I'll join in. This is me around 1982 or so. Notice the multipurpose lampshade. Holds song lists and can be rotated for different lyrics of songs.

MCChris Posted July 9, 2008 Author Posted July 9, 2008 What tunes were you guys playing back then?I seem to recall "Day Tripper" and "The Sound of Silence" being in the set. In fact, that may have been the entire set. I'm sure listeners craved the sound of silence when we were through.
jerseydrew Posted July 9, 2008 Posted July 9, 2008 What tunes were you guys playing back then?back in '83 we were playingDetroit Rock City - KissWhite Wedding - Billy IdolTwilight Zone - Golden EarringWe're an American Band - Grand FunkMagic Power - TriumphShe's Tight - Cheap TrickLondon Calling - the ClashCan't Get Enough of your Love - Bad Co.Ain't Talkin' About Love - VHEverybody Want Some - Billy SquierRadar Love - Golden EarringThree Lock Box - Sammy HagarPlus a bunch more that I can't remember. In addition, one of our pet peeve's was the amount of time "in between" songs other bands would waste. We would start one song right after the next. Sometimes we'd even combine the songs. This way we could play more songs in our alloted time.
