Would a solid Korina guuitar with a BRW fretboard be a good choise for someone like me who plays modern

mesa boogie type rock?

Ive never played a guitar with a Korina body so I was wondering how it sounds compared to a solid hog guitar.

can anyone shed some light?

Please excuse the crude descriptions, but IMO:

Korina has a bit more 'snarl' in the upper mids and a little bit less 'ass' in the bottom end. Not enough to screw up getting your chug chug on, mind you. I get plenty of chug outta my Korina guitars.

I think it's a bit lighter too, so that's a plus in my book. A shoulder that is not sore after a 4 hour gig, is a happy shoulder.

I have a Krorina Vector and its heavier sounding than my Jackson US DK-1 with active EMG pickups and its made for the more prog rock etc.

I like Korina better than mahogany. Lighter, better midrange. That said, both my Korinas are semi-hollow and I've never compared with a solid Korina.

I might regret this, :) but one of the guitar players on this is using my late 90's Czech made Dean Korina V with Duncan antiquities in it through some type of Mesa Rectumfrier they had at the Dean Owner's Open House Jam.

Yes, I'm singing/screamimg/having a Good Time.

Well, they're both wood that come from trees and stuff... :)

I'm no wood expert, but my understanding is that African Mahogany is not the same as African Limba (Korina).

And the Mahogany that Hamer uses is from a different continent; Honduran/South American Mahogany.

The midrange shift may vary, or it may not. In general, you notice a difference between mahogany and korina just like everyone has said. Boogies have enough tone controls to dial in a good sound no matter what you play through them.

The real question here is whether or not the Brazillian rosewood fretboard is going to make a difference.

I have a Korina Vector. The mids are very sweet upper mids. Its bright but not thin. I can even get some jangle out of it with the rigth settings. Its a little light in the ass but most V's I have played were so I think it might be a thing with them.

Wow! Not sure I would play that on a tour. But hey when you have as much money as Metallica...go for it. Not a big fan of Hammet though. That is Hammet right?

Not bad for having never played that song together any of us. ;):P

Glad we filled the bill on the Korina thing. BTW, Korina is only a name from Gibber to describe the finish of the '58 Limba Vs and Explorers as I've read on numerous occasions. I love the stuff. I like the sound inplugged, I dig the lightwieght, The flash of the flame the wood can have..... I could go on but....... ;):lol::P

That is a VERY cool shot of Kirk playing a sweet Explorer.

BTMN. Impressive on vocals as usual. Don't have much to add to the other Korina comments other than to say my korina Studio is incredibly light; only slightly heavier than my chambered one. Hard to compare tonewise with my 94 Studio since that one has EMG's in it, but it definitely sounds great to me and can cover all the bases with the WCR Shredders I have in there.
