ScubaMarket Posted May 7, 2009 Author Posted May 7, 2009 She will be replaced by my custom order Ocean Burst Dive Flag Standard with boomerang abolone fret markers I cant wait to get her!! Boomers? You're my hero! Not that easy.. Hamer said NO. Fortunately one of the best luthiers in the world is here in Savannah. He will be doin the boomers and frets for me. Still waitin for quotes to come in for the rest of it. ocean burst top and dive flag headstock.
cmatthes Posted May 7, 2009 Posted May 7, 2009 Scuba: Are you getting the boomers done after the guitar comes in? That IS a great top (I have the mirror image top on my Greenburst one), but Hamer's top grade is "Ultimate", which I think they grade at AAA... Believe it or not, that's a regular (called "Premium") grade top. Hamer's AAA tops are the other guys' AAAA and AAAAA Grade tops. I personally dig the "wide, random flame" look. A lot!
bubs_42 Posted May 7, 2009 Posted May 7, 2009 Scuba: Are you getting the boomers done after the guitar comes in? Gettin it done anyway he can...
veatch Posted May 7, 2009 Posted May 7, 2009 Scuba: Are you getting the boomers done after the guitar comes in? Gettin it done anyway he can... Amen, brutha.
ScubaMarket Posted May 7, 2009 Author Posted May 7, 2009 Scuba: Are you getting the boomers done after the guitar comes in? Gettin it done anyway he can... Amen, brutha. Yep! Gotta have the boomers..... Offered hamer $1K and heard nothin but a big ole no. WTF? Oh well.. My Luthier did work for Clapton and Elvis so that will be good enough for nobody me... BubbaVO Posted May 7, 2009 Posted May 7, 2009 Gorgeous! I've always wanted to own a Standard. But there's very little play money left there days. Good luck.
The Shark Posted May 7, 2009 Posted May 7, 2009 My previous boss used to turn down estate and trust tax returns. I got the "continuing education" for Estates and Trusts and boosted my income ten grand the first year.Hamer turning down crown and booooomerrrrranggg orders is marketing stupidity. I'm sorry. It just isn't that big a deal. Nobody is threatening to sue Hamer over "rangs". Hamers are famous FOR their neck inlays as well as all the other goodness. Guys like "Scuba" should not have to tell their story. Bully for you, Scuba. Get the guitar you want. Don't take no for an answer. You'd have been kicked off the Gear Page for your candor. The Shark.

mirrorimij Posted May 7, 2009 Posted May 7, 2009 It is very likely those two tops came from the same billet of maple. When doing a flametop for a Standard, they start with the same thickness billet as they would for a Studio, Artist, etc. Because the Standard top is thinner than a Studio they often get more than one top per billet.Very cool guitars. How many serial numbers apart are they?

How many serial numbers apart are they? That's what I was thinking - the grain patterns line up so closely (and not in mirror-image of each other) that they must have been cut that way. I forget how many serial numbers apart they are, but I believe that the Honey one came in to Rocketeria on the last day of February '08. The Green Monster showed up about a month to 6 weeks later (IIRC).
specialk Posted May 7, 2009 Posted May 7, 2009 Dang! I woulda thunk Always Broke would've replied to this thread by now. I thought he was looking for a Standard.Oops, maybe that's all he was doing, was looking. Oh well.... Good luck with the sale, and a very smart move to hang onto that 91 Sunburst!

PM sent Just gathering more info, I don't part with $2000 as easy as some of you guys seem to do
specialk Posted May 7, 2009 Posted May 7, 2009 Just gathering more info Cool! Glad to see you made it to this thread. It'd suck to have it sold and you didn't even get a look at it.
cmatthes Posted May 7, 2009 Posted May 7, 2009 Seriously - if you're looking, that's probably the best one for sale right now in the range you were giving. I know it's at the max end of things, but that's a great price for a really cool guitar. I was trying to figure out a way to justify buying it when Elduave was selling it, but the fact that I'd recently purchased the green one, had some more important things to pump $$ into at the time, and well, really didn't NEED another Standard, kept me from pulling the trigger.
Always Broke Posted May 7, 2009 Posted May 7, 2009 Fact of the matter is, I just don't know what I'd want to have in a Standard, and what it should be worth. Ebony or rosewood fretboard? Crowns or victories? Gold or nickel, but on which top/color? What's a bound headstock worth to me?What it comes down to is that I wish I could try them all and sense for that "something extra" that would make me gravitate decisively. When so many call out to you, how do you pick based on pictures and descriptions alone?!

I was surprised they wouldnt do the boomers. Im still waiting on a quote for the rest . I may go with block fretts that look like dive flags if they will do that. Thanks for letting me tell the story and not getting the boot. This is the best forum around IMHO. I will post more pictures of the honey top standard later today. She goes on the bay for $2200 Dang! I woulda thunk Always Broke would've replied to this thread by now. I thought he was looking for a Standard. Oops, maybe that's all he was doing, was looking. Oh well.... Good luck with the sale, and a very smart move to hang onto that 91 Sunburst! Special K When you see me selling that 91' Burst you will know im in bad times again...Seriously bad times. I.E. Like apocoliptic shit. I love that damn guitar man! It's the only burst im keeping. As a matter of fact i was just playing her last night learning some JP tunes. "heading out on the higway" sounds great on her. Most ALL my favorite guitars came from this forum including my 71 SG from brownsound that i will never sell. I took out the T-buckers and put in some SD antiquitys and DAMN what a player she is now. ***************************************************************************************** I CANT DO IT....THIS STANDARD IS NOT FOR SALE.. Sorry  I cant bare the thought of kicking my own ass every time someone else will post pictures of her. Kinda like the joke where the guy says do you wanna see some naked pictures of your old lady.... Im holding off on the CO standard for a month or two. I cant part with this beauty.
