nosajwp Posted July 18, 2005 Posted July 18, 2005 I've always been partial to the Whirlwind Leader, mainly because they perform well, are inexpensive, and the plugs don't come off easily, but I would like to know other's opinions. What do you use, why do you like them, etc?
elduave Posted July 18, 2005 Posted July 18, 2005 I was into the Planet Waves with the springy plugs due to the jack issues Hamer & G&L have had. However, I was recording into the Mac and getting all kinds of noise with the PW. I switched to a Monster Pro cable that was laying around and ALL the noise went away. I'm thinking Monster is good. for the pedal board I use George L's. It was funny a while back when I first called George L's to order, the nice lady on the other end of the phone was curious as to what cables I used for the rest of my rig. When I told her PW she said "Great! As long as you're not using those *other* guys (Monster)." I thought that was funny.
Brownsound Posted July 18, 2005 Posted July 18, 2005 I use Hardwires and Guardians...the Guardians are my fave right now.
cmatthes Posted July 18, 2005 Posted July 18, 2005 I've never had a Planet Waves cable crap out on me.
JohnnyB Posted July 18, 2005 Posted July 18, 2005 Spectraflex+1. Sounds good, physically rugged, day-to-day reliable.
shankyboy Posted July 18, 2005 Posted July 18, 2005 I have 2 sets of Spectraflex cables (10ft and a 18ft per set) that I purchased over 10 years ago and they are still going strong.
kurtsstuff Posted July 18, 2005 Posted July 18, 2005 I use Quantum cable...Buy it in bulk along with switchcraft 280 plugs and build them myself to whatever length I need at the time.
Brownsound Posted July 18, 2005 Posted July 18, 2005 Check this link. MIT Hardwire instrument cables....the damn things are even directional! I have a couple of 20 footers. They are very stiff, maybe good for studio but not too great for live situations. Interesting concept though.http://www.mitcables.com/products/products.asp
El Kabong Posted July 18, 2005 Posted July 18, 2005 George L's for the pedal board, Klotz la Grange for abusive use, (they sound very good, yet a little dry and sterile) and Analysis + Yellow Oval for straight to amp. (Yes, the Analysis + cables are a steal at $100 for a 10' cable once they are broken in).
nosajwp Posted July 18, 2005 Author Posted July 18, 2005 I've had good luck with a Planet Waves cable too, but the plug has started rusting on me! They say gold plated for extra corrosion resistance, but I've never seen a nickel plug rust before!
Ethan Posted July 18, 2005 Posted July 18, 2005 I'm using the Planet Waves as well, I'm not a huge fan of Monster due to reliability issues. However at our show the other night, I noticed a little more than a comfortable amount of noise coming from my amp, but I wonder if its the Livewires I use in between my pedals, or the power or something....
mattb Posted July 18, 2005 Posted July 18, 2005 Monster from Guitar to pedal board, Pedals are George L's, and moster from board to amp.
jettster Posted July 18, 2005 Posted July 18, 2005 I had some guitars that didn't do all that well with the Planet waves. Been using a Monster cable for a couple of years now and it seems to get along with all of them.
tgoss Posted July 18, 2005 Posted July 18, 2005 Working in a music store I'm surprised at how many Monster cables come back 'cause they're broken. Of course, some things like broken jacks and cables torn in half are not Monster's fault but still they seem to fail quite often.I do like the higher end Planet Waves cables.
anotherfreak2 Posted July 18, 2005 Posted July 18, 2005 Planet waves & George L'sdepends on the use, if I am usind pedals or how far away I have to be from my rig.
Guest teefus2 Posted July 18, 2005 Posted July 18, 2005 i buy the bulk proco musicmover cable from parts express and use G&H bigfoot connectors. never had one crap out and the cable/plug combo sounds great. the cable is really thick and has like a 95% shield or better. i hardwired my pedal board with this too. george l's didn't really work for me.
hardheartedbill Posted July 18, 2005 Posted July 18, 2005 ancient Whirlwind curly cable, just switched to cheapo 1' color coded molded plug cables on the pedalboard ( my inner Jimi ) long Geaorge L to amp
DavidE Posted July 18, 2005 Posted July 18, 2005 Spectraflex from board to amp (input and for the loop), george l's on the board and an AKG guitar bug with tiny receiver from the guitar to the board.
Jeroen Posted July 18, 2005 Posted July 18, 2005 Spectraflex, just like Hamer a Lifetime warranty which means they'll never give up.Use them for about 4 or 5 years now without a single problem.Jeroen
kenjones Posted July 18, 2005 Posted July 18, 2005 George L's for the pedalboard.I have some Klotz cables and really like them a lot. I got them as part of a trade. I don't think I would ever pay that kind of money for a cable.Bayou Cables are the best "bang for the buck" IMO. These are the cables I will be buying from now on. The price and quality are outstanding.
ctrixie Posted July 18, 2005 Posted July 18, 2005 Bayou Cables are the best "bang for the buck" IMO. These are the cables I will be buying from now on. The price and quality are outstanding. +1 for those. What he said.
unfun 75 Posted July 18, 2005 Posted July 18, 2005 I use Bayou and Lava. Both makers use Canare cable with Neutrik straight ends and G&H right angle ends. Lava is local to me, so I buy their stuff now. I would highly recommend either product.
