First post: My first Hamer Guitar!

Well, I was looking for a p-90 equipped guitar, as I used to have a Gibson SG special around 10 years ago. I missed that fat single coil sound, so I started looking around for new and used guitars. Well Russ (who posts here) clued me in on a used Hamer Special from 1993 with P-90 pickups in Candy Apple Red, and Gold hardware. Based on the Hamer reputation and the fact that it has Seymour Duncan P-90s, I picked it up, and here it is:

All I can say is WOW. It's in great shape for it's age, it sounds incredible, and it's a very comfortable guitar to play. It's what the LP Junior SHOULD have been, and they didn't even need to move the neck pickup back to make a stronger neck joint. So, this one's a keeper. Question now is how many more Hamer's I'll pick up.

Welcome, great place here, lotsa awesome advice.

Cool Hamer!

P.S. Hide your wallet..... Its starts with one....

WELCOME!

I don't know if that's a refin or not. I've never seen one in that finish. It looks great though. I've had around 10 of those P-90 Specials. GREAT guitars.

Yeah... I am having to hide my wallet right now... as the place where I got this guitar, Dave's guitar in Wisconsin, has a tranclucent yellow Hamer FM specials from 93 for just under $800. Though, with a Carvin CT6M, a Carvin DC150, and Gibson SG... my set neck humbucker equipped mahogany solid body quote is filled. What I AM going to get eventually is a nice Hamer Monaco, because I don't have a semi-hollow, and there's no way I'm shelling out for a Gibby.

Mu-wa-ha-ha...

As if i hadn't heard *that* before...

As if i hadn't *said* that before...

Welcome aboard, and nice guitar!

Yeah. The guy who emailed me back about activating my account here asked if my special had gold hardware, because there was a special dealer run done in Candy Apple red with Gold hardware. I also have the nice boxy black fur lined case that fits perfectly.

Now we'll see how high the auction goes.

Well... right now my other hobby may require funds. My mom's chiropractor is selling his BMW motorcycle. It's NIIICE. Though maybe outta my price range.

Also, there's only so many set neck mahogany guitars one can own... now I just need to keep my credit cards hidden whenever I check out the used hamers at Dave's guitars. They've got two '93 specials with humbuckers up right now... with nice flamey tops.

Dave's Guitars = Dangerous

The HFC == Crazy Dangerous.

Withdraw your membership now before the insanity begins. You will see so many cool Hamers in so little time that your head will spin.

"Wow - what a bargain! Wow - cool Hamer! Wow - I've never even heard of that model! " Etc.

Stay away from Devnor.

Welcome. Used Hamers are addictive.

Well... I can tell that I'm going to be getting a Monaco before the end of the year. Monaco Pro most likely. Other than that... yeah ok this place is dangerous... much more so than the Gibson forums. Buying a great hamer used for 800-1000 is a lot easier to get away with than the people over there dropping 3-4K for those Gibbys that are VOS. I can't believe people buy into that. I'd rather buy a Hamer (or a carvin or a heritage or a something not Gibson or Fender)

welcome aboard. nice guitar. now i ve got my eye on the flea bay special. You ve absolutely got the right thinking. I almost bought a brand new LP, beautiful red with gorgeous binding, hums.

this was a looooonnnng tme ago, and the new price was $2850.00. well i was still young and at the time could not afford that with saving up for years. I was trying to figure out how to gt this thing.

well i went in there and sat down with it to play it, and started noticing everything wrong with it from finish to $h!ty looking frets, bubbles in the lacquer..............etc.

I decided to start looking at different guitars. In the meantime, the store opens a new location, moves to a bigger, fancier store, and i go to look at this LP again thinking "' it couldnt have been as bad as I thought, its a "GIBSON" '"

Well it was just as bad and the price on it had gone from $2850.00 to $3675.00. same guitar, same imperfections, nice new price. Needless to say i never bought anything from them and i went across town and started buying hamers. havent stopped yet

welcome to the family

Welcome! Gotta love those Specials.

And beware of Dave's - I'm about half the world away, and he still manages to empty my wallet at frequent intervals.

Hey tbonesullivan,

Great looking Special with the candy apple red finish and gold hardware. You scored, dude!! Enjoy playing that guitar and welcome to the club. I already own 5 Hamers myself within the past few years after buying my '95 Sunburst/Studio so the "hide your wallet" thing definitely applies here at this website.

If that black cherry burst Newport Pro is still at Dave's guitars in a month.. it may be making a trip to NJ.

Welcome to the addiction. Beware of $350 offers (its kind of a running joke around here), sharkfin picks, and people offering you half a twenty. Hiding your wallet won't help unless you hide it well enough that you forget where its at. This is still the friendliest board on earth!

Tbone,

I looked repeatedly at that guitar that you bought! I almost bought it myself on several viewings, but instead found a '93 Special in Cherry on eBay. Mine's got the standard black pickup covers and it is wonderful. Nice score for both of us.

congrats! I'm trying to stay away from ebay for a while... lest I pick up another hamer special from the 90s... or that aztec gold FM special from 94 that is on daves guitars.

This is my #1 gig guitar. From Dave's. Picked it up in 2005 for just under the HFC-approved price SHIPPED. Embarassingly, it's only got it's second set of strings on it (I MUST change them before Saturday's gig!) since I got it and it's been to every gig since I got it. It's THE most stable guitar I've ever owned, even with the Kahler. A really good one!

I gotta make the trip down to Dave's to see it in person. But I better make sure to bring my wallet, credit card, etc. I doubt I could get in and out of there without buying something with six strings.

Welcome and Enjoy!! :blink::lol:
