LP DC JR Project Started

The Hamer i was working on is on hold as I await for a couple things from Stike.

In the meantime I started this :

I had some left over White Limba aka Korina so I decided to build a LP DC Jr.

I was able to get a nice 1/4 sawn piece from one end of the board for the neck but the board wasn't thick enough so i had to add a piece . The "Scarf" joint runs between the first and second set of tuner holes so it should be ok.

You can faintly see the joint on the neck blank pic.

Body blank glued up.

After the blank was rough cut I used my old tried and true method of milling the tenon end of the neck to the 3 degree angle.

Built my own Slot Cutting Jig from one i had seen on another forum.

Slot cut , perfectly in the center.

Nut pocket cut using chisels and a small drum sander on a Dremel

Thats what I got done so far in 2 days. I'm out of 1/4" dot inlays so i'll order some on Monday. Once thay get here I'll be able to continue with the rest of the work. Hopefully by the end of next week I should have all together .

During my days off from work ( Being I work 12 hr shifts every month I get 7 day off in a row ) I managed to get some more work done on the Jr.

Headstock shaped and Veener glued up and shaped:

I used my Laser to make sure the neck was aligned perfectly with the body and set up the guides to route the neck mortise:

LPJR24.jpg

LPJR25.jpg

Added vinyl tape to the sides of the guides to make the pocket a hair smaller and than I can fine tune the joint so I get a snug fit of the neck tennon

A perfect fit after a little tweeking :

Time for some routing and drilling of the pickup cavity, control cavity and jack hole:

So thats it for now. Tomorrow will be a busy day as I gotta prep my copy of Old Boy and later pay a visit to see Tony Iommi and Geezer Butler.

I'l l be driving up to Wallingford CT to see Heaven & Hell from Back Stage !

I just got a call from Iommi's guitar tech and told me to come up and that I'm already on the Guest List !

I CAN'T WAIT !

Damn. Why didn't i think of that? I was doing it the hard way - i made a curved template to place over the neck. Works, but centering is a bear.

Do you sell the guitars you make, or keep them for yourself? Looks awesome!

That is one fine Junior, Lou! Really nice work. And a very nice slab of wood. I like the tight grain pattern. I bet it sounds awesome. Congrats.
