Will an LP pickguard fit on a Hamer archtop studio or will the knobs be in the way?

pretty much I want to do:

I know drilling 2 holes is dumb....but I don't care. :D

Will it work?

Thanks!

Dear Christ what have you done/are fixing to do?

uhhh....I am fixin' to put a pickgaurd on my studio. Not exactly worth endearing your god over is it?

This guitar is my number one, and has a neck repair so resale is not an option. I just thought the PG would look cool.

If you do it, use some of that foam double-sticky-side stuff in case you change your mind. Don't put extra holes in it. In my case (may not be yours, of course) I'd be scared it'd look cool for a few months to me but then the cool would wear off on me and I'm left with holes that don't belong there.

This. Definitely.

I'm not sure that the pickup spacing would be correct, but you can always try.

I say go for it and be happy. You are not worried about resale anyway. Those little screw holes could be cosmeticly filled fairly decently if need be. Myself, I would just cut a pickguard from a blank. Otherwise I say start by taking the guitar to a couple of music stores and hold some of the replacement pickguards up to the guitar and check for fit. The guys from pickguard heaven can custom cut one for you if you send a paper cutout or a tracing of EXACTLY what you want.

I would be leary of any adheasive foam stuff. It can pull the finish off of wood and that is a lot harder to fix than a screw hole.

Double sided foam tape will not hurt the finish, holes will.

If you walked your guitar in to MY store to try guards and then ordered online, you'd have a real vacation the next time you came in to my place.

Greg,

My apologies. I was not suggesting that he try out pickguards in the store and then buy online. My intention was to say, try out several and see if you can find one that fits. That would be the easiest solution. If it does then buy it at the store that helped you out. In the event one he cannot find one in a store, then order online.

As far as the double sided adhesive is concerned, I have pulled a piece of the finish off.

Aftermarket LP Pickguards often don't fit regular Les Pauls correctly, much less a guitar like this. There is so much variation between different years, styles of GIBSONs, not to mention all the Epiphones, Jpns and other import copies, and all the "sortalikes" out there.

My advice is to get one purpose-made for your guitar. Pickguards are cheap - custom made ones are really not going to cost you that much more, and you won't be potentially pissing your money away.

Greg does great work, Tony at Pickguardian.com does great work, and there may be somebody in your backyard who is also up to the task. I'd try them first, but in any event, measure, measure, mesasure!!

And aren't the pickups on Hamers spaced closer together than on LPs?

This is what I am wondering.

I'll see if my buddy will take the guard off his LP and let me hold it up to my guitar first. If I am in the ballpark and it looks cool, I'll order a custom one.

Greg, since you have Hamers in stock to measure from, could you custom make one for me? I need a volume pot anyways so I have an order in the near future.

Thanks everybody!
