velorush Posted April 11, 2010 Posted April 11, 2010 2nd best set of Dimarzio Paf's i've laid my ears on. Neck was very close to the Mid 90's Studio necks.I've obviously been looking at too many photos (if possible?) because, after review, I find that YOU posted that very photo this morning with a whole bunch of others of the same guitar. I'm sorry, I must have skipped over that particular photo. Had LOTT not reposted it, I'd probably not have revisited it. That is the one I remember from older threads. I think my memory of it was a mix of that guitar and the Standard you posted in the other thread. An amazing burst on an amazing guitar.
GaryT Posted April 11, 2010 Posted April 11, 2010 Anyway if you've been following the Rare Bird Thread and your interested in what we have been talking about send me a PM. Studio Custom (Non Maple Top) Solid or Trans? Custom Colors (Sparkle) I guessing everyone wants crowns? Electraglide Pickup Configuration Ebony Board Sustain Block SOLIDS Red Gold Top Solid Black Trans Black TRANS Black Jazzburst Red Aztec Gold Blonde SPARKLEY Natural, (Sparkle in the Clear) Orange Sparkle Silver Sparkle Blue Sparkle Red Sparkle Ice Pearl Sparkle Black Sparkle For Sures.... Sustain Block Speak you mind or forever hold your piece. PM me for questions and suggestions. I like everything about it. But a Vintage neck profile is a MUST for me. Just can't work with Thin Necks. As far as a finish something very thin I'm good with.
polara Posted April 11, 2010 Posted April 11, 2010 Thinking of costs here: As cool as a Sunburst RI would be, or the Studio Custom with a Prototype triple in the bridge and a P90 neck and a 5-way blade selector, and crowns, and all that... WHO here would possibly pony up the cash for one of those? I am not raising my hand. Realistically, I think if we are half-serious about an HFC run, we need to look at a favorite off-the shelf model and add something that we all dig to make it uniquely ours, but that does not require reprogramming a CNC machine or hijacking a boatload of exotic woods. I nominate the following : 1) Artist P90 in a metallic finish with sustainblock 2) Studio in a cool transparent blue or green with sustainblock 3) Junior, white finish, sustainblock. I'd pay for number 3. Not to piss in everyone's dream pool, but to order a run of a dozen or so, we'd need deposits for guitars that run $2500 minimum, and if we make it a really wild dream machine it'll have fewer people who want those specific features, and fewer with that kind of cash. Ideas?
bubs_42 Posted April 11, 2010 Author Posted April 11, 2010 You will never make everyone happy period. Thanks for speaking your mind and I think that if you start with an all Mahogany Guitar on any level weather its a Studio, Special, Jr, Artist base price wise your not talking a huge difference. Its all about the options, and this turns into something completely different in the end it still has to be unique and worth every penny. The guys that have spoken up for the original idea will have to sort if it will become reality or not. It it happens it will be an HFC "Inspired" run but I don't think we could call it anything but that. Open floor guys speak your mind, others are listing.
bubs_42 Posted April 12, 2010 Author Posted April 12, 2010 Thanks for those who have emailed there interest in last day or two. When we get a couple things nailed down i'll reach out to more of you.
serial Posted April 12, 2010 Posted April 12, 2010 Using the Studio P90 as a base will help you-esp with a solid color top (less for plaintop). Tge neck P90 will not be an upcharge, just the 3 coil. Also less $$ when you're not changing holes (a 5 way blade is a big upcharge-a 5 way toggle is not-same hole as a 3 way, which is stock). All points I considered doing my green one.

serial Posted April 13, 2010 Posted April 13, 2010 There are numerous items that are standard now that previously had an upcharge-headstock binding (I shoujd have clarified the "Custom" trim is what I ordered) and inlaid logo. I wanted both but neither were standard when I ordered, so because I wanted an ebony board and flametop, to get those, I had to forego the sustain block for a stop/tuna. The emerald trans was a standard color at the time, so no upcharge there, same as the Indigo on my "Not Chris" B08M. Not sure what is stock now, but it might make more sense to do all one custom color (like opaque red) for the run if going with a non-stock color. Might be able to get a break if they're spraying ten as opposed to one. It'd also give it a uniqueness factor that wouldn't otherwise exist. Just a thought. If going with the 3Coil, make sure they have the rings in stock still! The more stock parts used (at least for mine) the better. You can always change a 5 way to a 3 way toggle with a push/pull pot to bring in the single coil later if you want. That'd function the same as a blade (or better) without the upcharge.

JGale Posted April 13, 2010 Posted April 13, 2010 Reminder that there is no soliciting on this page.Thanks.I don't get it. What'd I miss?
marcnorth Posted April 13, 2010 Posted April 13, 2010 ...Watson headstock...I thought the Watson headstock was the same as the Studio, Artist, etc. headstock? IMO, the absolute coolest Hamer headstock (don't know what to call it, I 'borrowed' the image from marcnorth's avatar): It's my picture (slightly out of focus, sorry), and my guitar. Coolest Hamer headstock ever to me, I hope you don't mind me using the pic. I would love to have a Hamer bass with this headstock. Make this the headstock and I'll take mine in a 4 string short scale.
cmatthes Posted April 13, 2010 Posted April 13, 2010 Reminder that there is no soliciting on this page.Thanks.I don't get it. What'd I miss?No dealer soliciting on the main page. It's been a rule here for years, so should be nothing new to anybody, especially dealers.

carfish7 Posted April 13, 2010 Posted April 13, 2010 It would look like this to me; Add a SustainBlock, a neck P-90, and a second 2-way switch like the SS model to bring in the single-coil in the triple ring. Standard headstock, ebony 'board with a single 'Boomer at the 12th, sprayed up in a sparkle or Darkburst thing. Couldn't be too spendy, right? I mean, they still know how to roll out a Phantom, and the rest is just pimpin'. Z
cmatthes Posted April 13, 2010 Posted April 13, 2010 Couldn't be too spendy, right? I mean, they still know how to roll out a Phantom, and the rest is just pimpin'.ZThat would probably STREET out at between $3,500 and $4k with all those options - easily. And no sparkle finishes...
bubs_42 Posted April 13, 2010 Author Posted April 13, 2010 To me the Prototype/Phantom is "The Hamer Guitar". They missed the boat when they brought it back in V2 wiithout the Sustainblock.

I believe I'm catching on...Would a second three-way switch for the triple coil (ala Prototype) added to the neck-bridge choice three way cost more than a push-pull pot for the single in the bridge? The problem with a push-pull is they are binary operators (either - or) and we're back to the shortcoming I had with the Phantom, namely no all-coils-on set of positions. How does the Electraglide switch? It has two toggles - is it just like a Phantom 3-way + 2-way? I guess what I was looking for, switching wise, was Prototype + a neck single coil rather than a Phantom.
marcnorth Posted April 13, 2010 Posted April 13, 2010 Or, you could get one'a these.... Short scale bass with a Dan Armstrong headstock? Already got one! I had a 69, it was cool. I wish I would have never sold it. I would rather have one that says Hamer on it.

The push-pull (or preferable, a push-push) would simply turn on the third coil of the bridge pup. The upside is you can get (most) of the sounds without the stinkin' 5-way rotary (i'm not a friend of the rotary...). Down side is you can't get the middle pup by itself. In this case, maybe not too big of a deal. Just can't get that Bonnie Riatt sound...
