Jeff R Posted September 30, 2005 Posted September 30, 2005 Let's have a Most Valuable Pedal thread - the one you seemingly GOTTA have! For me, I'd have to point to my old three-knob Boss CS-2 Compression/Sustainer. I'm prone to use it on both my MicroCube and my "real" amp, a Marshall JCM 2000 combo. I love the clipped sound of the bass notes running clean (especially with my Robin Ranger's singles). Dirty, I like the way I can sing out the unwound strings longer above the 12th fret - I can really coax some howl out of them too.Runner up I guess is my Boss TU-2 pedal because it gets used most every time I plug in, at least for the first 15 seconds I plug in heh heh. What's your fave?
elduave Posted September 30, 2005 Posted September 30, 2005 gotta be the tu2...as far as non tuners, the marshall bluesbreaker on clean boost mode is my lead boost-couldn't do without thatbass-boss bass limiter, the best bass pedal ever (yes, more indespensible than a bass driver IMO)-also boss bass overdrive (the mix knob is key)
Disturber Posted September 30, 2005 Posted September 30, 2005 For me it's the old script logo MXR PHASE 90.I can't play clean without it. Its the essence ofmy clean sound. Love it. I had a Boss CS-2 Compression/Sustainer but didn't like it.I use a Boss CS-3 Compression/Sustainer that works better for me.Ad it with the PHASE 90 and it's set to go.Other than that right now I'm in love with myMarshall Guv'nor old black one and a Marshall Shredmaster.I like both actually but they sound a bit different. But I find overdrive/distortion pedals lasts a while, then I usually change to something else, and thenperhaps back again.
cmatthes Posted September 30, 2005 Posted September 30, 2005 Boss TU-2Tuner extraordinaireEdited to add that it doesn't make me sound any better though! (Damn)
serial Posted September 30, 2005 Posted September 30, 2005 Well, maybe not a "pedal", but it functions as one in many situations. My Tech21 BassDriver is ESSENTIAL for bass.Guitar, I would have said the TU-2, but my present main rig has a built in tuner (Duoverb), so that would leave my old original (block logo, no LED) MXR Phase 90.
silentman Posted September 30, 2005 Posted September 30, 2005 I use the Boss TU-2 as well.Bad Horsie WahCustom stereo A/B/Y built by Startouch Pedals that allows me to switch between my piezo and mags on my Duotone. Don't know how I played gigs without one before.
gwayne Posted September 30, 2005 Posted September 30, 2005 Fulltone Fulldrive II. Sounds great with every guitar and every amp I've owned.
Michael_ Posted September 30, 2005 Posted September 30, 2005 Uhm...nothing?Never been a pedal fan I guess.
tomteriffic Posted September 30, 2005 Posted September 30, 2005 Odd but, I've had one in every rig I've had for 15 years, a DOD FX-10 FET preamp. Makes a dandy clean boost and with a super-high input impedance, acts as a great buffer amp or low-bucks preamp for a piezo. Volume, tone, that's it. OD's seem to come and go, and these days I'd rather beat up the power tubes on a smaller amp.Second would be my TC Electronics Chorus.
RichF Posted September 30, 2005 Posted September 30, 2005 Add me to the list of TU-2 users. My Reverend Drivetrain II also gets a lot of use.
guitarzandstuff Posted September 30, 2005 Posted September 30, 2005 I vote for the Boss TU-2 also...Growing up however it was an MXR Micro Amp... Hit the front of my old JMP REAL NICE!!!
pesocaster Posted September 30, 2005 Posted September 30, 2005 #1 without question ..... Thomas Organ Co. Wah I also have a 1 off Ibanez Tube King in black that's pretty special.... I'm also loving my Tech 21 GT-2...
Jimbilly Posted September 30, 2005 Posted September 30, 2005 Certainly my Tech 21 bass driver DI, no question.
Brooks Posted September 30, 2005 Posted September 30, 2005 I had a Boss CS-2 Compression/Sustainer but didn't like it.I use a Boss CS-3 Compression/Sustainer that works better for me. i like compressors, too, i use 'em as a solo boost (clean OR dirty).you guys should try an aphex punch factory, much more natural and transparent than all the other comps i've tried (boss, ibanez, arion, dod). its actually a studio quality optical comp in a stompbox. also has xlr out, which makes it a great bass direct box.also worth trying is the guyatone comp, which has a blend switch that adds your uncompressed signal back in.i use the guyatone live because it has a more noticable boost.the aphex is more quiet, so i use it when recording (and my bassist has been using it a lot lately).i also just got a lockhardt tone wizard from HHB.this is a geranium type boost, kinda like the rangemastersused by iommi & brian may. this thing juices the front end ofmy carr rambler to sustain and barely distort. turn the guitar volume down and the gain backs off, subtle but really nice classic rawk tone.still haven't settled on a single OD, right now i have fulldrive II, jeckyll & hyde, maxon od, and boss metal zone (for powerchords).BUT, getting back to the posted question, if i hadda choose just one pedal, it'd be my yamaha magicstomp. although i only use it for solos thru the PA on acoustic gigs, it does have everything i regularly use(comp, OD, delay, tuner), and a bunch of fun stuff i sometimes goof around with (envelope filter, phaser, etc).
