Hamerica Posted April 12, 2012 Posted April 12, 2012 After all the "ethics" posting and etc.,etc., of course it was sold off line.I agree with Chris, "Totally saw this coming".Oh well, it was good to look at while it lasted. Hamerica
RichRS6 Posted April 12, 2012 Posted April 12, 2012 He'll probably pull it at the last moment anyway.God I hate being right all the time..........Also proves I was right about him being an asshole.
kizanski Posted April 12, 2012 Author Posted April 12, 2012 Seller agreed to meet me at the mall.Yeah, but to do what?
bubs_42 Posted April 12, 2012 Posted April 12, 2012 Money Talks and BS Walks Fella's. It comes down to the money, someone was willing to pay the dough to snag a very nice "Vintage" Guitar from Hamers Early Years.

"Its worth what someone is willing to pay for it." This is why so many of them never complete the auction and why so many try to buy them before the auctions end. I respect your point but it may have not ended like we would have wanted. I would have taken a crack at it if the auction would have run its course but I realistly know what I would have had to shell out.
RichRS6 Posted April 12, 2012 Posted April 12, 2012 So, for future reference, (sorry if I seem a bit dim on the finer points here) if one of these guitars come on to ebay again the best way to get it is to contact the seller and offer them a substantial amount, (basically what you would be prepared to pay for it) and if they're greedy they take your offer rather than let the auction run its course and risk not getting quite as much for it ?BTW, There was no B.S. on my part, I had someone prepared to place a substantial bid on my behalf and ship the guitar onwards for me.I never bid in early, I alway wait until the last minute as it stops me from going any higher than whatever I consider the item is worth, too easy to get carried away otherwise. Seems like it wasn't such a good idea this time.If the seller had been more flexible then I would have placed a bid earlier and he may (we'll never know now of course) have got a lot more from the guy who He did the off ebay deal with.A big Thank you to the Forum members who offered their services, if I can ever help you out in the same way just let me know.Whoever the new owner is congratulations and can I have first Dibs.

IMHO he potentially could have gotten more money based on what he stated and the posts here. I could be wrong, someone could have offered him $xx,xxx and he took it however, sometimes it is the relationship between the buyer and seller that determines who gets it and not the money. Nothing wrong with that either - he is the seller. Hamerica
Hamerica Posted April 12, 2012 Posted April 12, 2012 "So, tree fiddy is 'still' the going rate" Yes, Vic for the bottom feeders it will always be three fifty and if you can get for that price good for you.
TattooedCarrot Posted April 12, 2012 Posted April 12, 2012 I didn't realize the guy was selling friendship, I thought it was just the guitar. A lot of selling also occurs off-line because of the exorbitant ebay fees. I often use ebay for the advertisement of reaching a larger audience and would prefer to just end it and do a satisfactory backdoor deal. I guess that makes me greedy and an asshole as well. But then again, like this guy, I’m usually selling guitars and not warm fuzzies
TattooedCarrot Posted April 12, 2012 Posted April 12, 2012 Whomever removed their post about sending the seller the note about the $6000 bid, I liked that actually. That's gotta hurt if he sold for less.

Pieman Posted April 12, 2012 Posted April 12, 2012 What was the bid before it was pulled? Not that it matters much. Just curious.

hamerhead Posted April 12, 2012 Posted April 12, 2012 What's the highest non-celeb-owned 4-digit that anyone's seen sell? I kinda remember one for around $5500, but that was a few years ago.
cmatthes Posted April 12, 2012 Posted April 12, 2012 I know of a legitimate offer of over $15k for an early one that was turned down.

You can spend all the money in the world on a guitar if your going to collect it and don't care how it plays. I scored mine at a reasonable price and got lucky the day it showed up, because when I pulled it from the case it sounded and felt great.
FrankieIII Posted April 13, 2012 Posted April 13, 2012 His eBay fee would've been only $100, even if it had sold for a bajillion dollars at auction. Plus the 2.9% PayPal fee, of course:http://pages.ebay.co...ll/fvf.html#how
cmatthes Posted April 13, 2012 Posted April 13, 2012 And i'm sure that was an early one, custom order, special appointments? Well, I already stated it was an early one, but you would be wrong about the "custom order, special appointments" part.
