Disturber Posted October 11, 2012 Posted October 11, 2012 I need to try the stock pups in mine. It came with a 59 bridge and a Seth Lower neck. They sounded dull and kinda lifeless.I have two old Hamer Dimarzio PAFs in it that sound great. The original A5 mags sounded great through a Deluxe Reverb. But since I started playing wiith the band through an old cranked Marshall I thought the guitar sounded slightly honky. I stuck a pair of degaused Antiquity A2s in the Dimarzios and that smoothed things out to perfection. In have a super old Custom in a drawer. I need to find a mate for it and swap the mag to make it a CC, or just find an older CC so I can try the original configuration. As every one says they sound so good. To bad it's such a pain to swap pups in the SP. It takes like an afternoon to do it.
sixesandsevens Posted December 8, 2012 Posted December 8, 2012 Do you all think there's any musical situation where the SuperPro isn't particularly well suited?
kizanski Posted December 8, 2012 Posted December 8, 2012 Do you all think there's any musical situation where the SuperPro isn't particularly well suited?Yeah when you want to suck, you shouldn't bring your SuperPro.
carfish7 Posted December 8, 2012 Posted December 8, 2012 Man, I wants one of these something fierce. Too bad the only one local is tagged at $2,250, which seems a tad steep..........
Disturber Posted December 8, 2012 Posted December 8, 2012 Recorded a Super Pro soundcliptoday and posted in this thread:http://www.hamerfanclub.com/forums/topic/56167-post-audio-from-your-hamer-or-other/page-9#entry605751

Yeah when you want to suck, you shouldn't bring your SuperPro. I'll call that one for the "no" column... Recorded a Super Pro soundcliptoday and posted in this thread: http://www.hamerfanclub.com/forums/topic/56167-post-audio-from-your-hamer-or-other/page-9#entry605751 Thanks for the clip! I think I can hear the "hollow-body-ness" in that. Does it feed back more readily than a solidbody would? I was in a band with a guy who played an Epi Sheraton and while it was a sweet guitar, he ended up stuffing it with t-shirts to keep it from feeding back.

I was in a band with a guy who played an Epi Sheraton and while it was a sweet guitar, he ended up stuffing it with t-shirts to keep it from feeding back. Does not feed back much. I had unpotted Dimarzios in it before and I never had a problem when playing with the band. I play a Marshall JTM 50, pretty dimed, with a Weber Mass set to ten past twelve. Mostly no dirt pedals, just straight in. Sometimes I step on a Fulltone Catalyst.
MarkF786 Posted December 10, 2012 Posted December 10, 2012 What are the differences between the Monaco Elite and Monaco SuperPro? From the specs, I see the following differences:Scale Length - 24.75" vs 25.5"Body: solid body vs. semi-hollowBody Length - 16.85" vs 17.6"Knob orientation - straight line vs diagonalAre there any other differences?I really liked my Monaco Elite (which I sold a couple years ago and have been regretting it) and I love my Talladega Pro. The SuperPro sounds like a cross between the two, like a Talladega Pro with a TOM bridge.
sixesandsevens Posted December 12, 2012 Posted December 12, 2012 The elite's body is scaled down a bit too from what I understand.Edit: Oh, and there's no back panel for electronics access on the SP.
MCChris Posted February 4, 2013 Posted February 4, 2013 bumped in honor of Kizanski.....ya bastard! That's "magnificent bastard" if he got the one off Facebook!Normally I can't stand painted headstocks on guitars with maple fretboards but the white makes it much more tolerable. Plus, what a unique piece!
django49 Posted February 4, 2013 Posted February 4, 2013 Of the two I have had, I tended to like the one with Duncan APH pickups better overall. If it was my only guitar and all that.......That said, they are somewhat away from the more "uniqueness" of the SP. And since I already had something more or less in the same tone range, it (the one with the replacement pups) is being delivered to a new owner today. I suspect the SP would be even greater if upgraded with more "boutique" pups. Wolfetone, Lollar perhaps(?). Not sure which would be best, but I suspect they would take it to an even higher level. Not quite ready to tinker though.....
cynic Posted February 4, 2013 Posted February 4, 2013 bumped in honor of Kizanski.....ya magnificent bastard! That's "magnificent bastard" if he got the one off Facebook!Fair enough....fixedThat there's the creme de la creme of all Superpros AND I CALL DIBS!
MarkF786 Posted February 4, 2013 Posted February 4, 2013 I've got a SuperPro incoming, thanks to Django. UPS says it's out for delivery today, so I'm psyched. It has APH pickups installed, as Django mentioned above, though I have three other sets of pickups that I'm considering:- a set of the stock Custom / Custom Custom pickups that I bought NOS from eBay- a set of Talladega Pro pickups that hectorp recently sold me- a set of Seth LoversI've give the APH pickups a try, though the bridge is trem-spaced so I'll probably at least replace that.
MCChris Posted February 4, 2013 Posted February 4, 2013 ^^^Post pics if you would. Word is the top has a unique wide flame!

It felt "off" to me immediately. However, after a few minutes it seemed to make sense, the wider spacing (arguably) complementing the "Fender" scale length, etc. But assuming you do replace the pups, then changing the bridge is a no-brainer.ENJOY!
django49 Posted February 4, 2013 Posted February 4, 2013 ^^^ Post pics if you would. Word is the top has a unique wide flame! My recent (pre-shipment) kwik pix. With my limited photog ability. I am not sure that this best captures the figure.....It is one of those that varies a good deal (IMO) based upon the light and angle. More subtle head on, much deeper and "standout" at an angle, such as looking down at it while playing.
MarkF786 Posted February 4, 2013 Posted February 4, 2013 I hear you about letting the temperature adjust, though I always thought it was only a big concern with nitro finished guitars, which I'm overly careful with.
Disturber Posted February 4, 2013 Posted February 4, 2013 Great looking Super Pro. Congrats!Yeah, nitro cracks easily if the guitar is cold and brought into a warm enviroment to quickly. Some like cracked finishes. Personally my eyes would tear up if it would happen to any of my guitars due to neglience. My own personal exerimenting led me to believe that the SP likes a little hotter pickups, at least if you play with some gain. I tried pups with really low output, normal paf:ish out put and have settled on the 10 K Hamer Slammers. They sound awesome in the SP, both clean and distorted in a classic rock kinda way. Wolfetones would be interesting to try, perhaps the Marshallheads.
bubs_42 Posted February 4, 2013 Posted February 4, 2013 If you have ever had to a chance to play a Superpro and the Elite at the same time you would swear they had different pickups in them. That Big Hollowed out body mellows out those fire breathers very nicely.

That Big Hollowed out body mellows out those fire breathers very nicely.Excellent point. Add to that the "regular" Monaco. Even though it has (apparently exactly) the same pickups, it is even more mellow than the SP-----I suppose it should be as it is "more hollow".
MarkF786 Posted February 4, 2013 Posted February 4, 2013 I've got to leave for a business trip later tonight so I won't get a chance to try the Super Pro until return Wednesday or Thursday. I'll report back then.
bubs_42 Posted December 16, 2014 Posted December 16, 2014 If you like SuperPron and a good laugh this is the thread for you.
