shredmeister Posted May 30, 2012 Posted May 30, 2012 Saw him on TV when he did his concert in London at what - Royal Hall or something. I much prefer Gary Moore, Stevie or Frank Marino for that matter. For some reason he just doesn't do it for me.
MCChris Posted May 30, 2012 Author Posted May 30, 2012 The RAH gig is his worst video representation IMO. The "New Day Yesterday" DVD is great. Plus it has hot college chicks dancing onstage.
jisham Posted May 30, 2012 Posted May 30, 2012 Meh, IMO he can play the shit out of his Les Paul and it makes me smile.
KH Guitar Freak Posted May 30, 2012 Posted May 30, 2012 I'd hands down rather listen to him than John Mayer...
hectorp Posted May 30, 2012 Posted May 30, 2012 Meh, IMO he can play the shit of out his Les Paul and it makes me smile. No doubt he's a tasty player...
sirDaniel Posted May 30, 2012 Posted May 30, 2012 +1 with Chris on the shirts. I'm not wearing anything with BLUES DUDE on it.Joe, if anyone could pull it off, it would be u
m chops Posted May 31, 2012 Posted May 31, 2012 Ok, I finally made it through the remainder of the concert. I do need to amend my original post. That boy can play! And I appreciate his quotes.
zzzdat Posted May 31, 2012 Posted May 31, 2012 I think he's a great player. His vocals have gotten better too, he sounds like Paul Rodgers now. What I hear is a guy with chops but nothing to define him as himself. I hear Eric Johnson, Early cream, Hendrix. and some really nice other stuff. If I hear Jeff Beck, I know it's him, if I hear santana ( as much as I don't like him anymore) I know it's him. Maybe later he will find his own thing. The rest of the stuff about him I don't care about, He seems okay in interviews.
conorb Posted May 31, 2012 Posted May 31, 2012 I'd hands down rather listen to him than John Mayer...+1, +10, +100, +infinity plus one on this.Now that's a guy I don't get.conorb

He definitely put out music early in his career that blatantly pandered to women, possibly to get laid, but probably to be able to call the shots and make the music he really wanted to later on. In the process, though, he became an unconscionable tool, and there's no going back.
murkat Posted May 31, 2012 Posted May 31, 2012 All that said, making a living in the music business is really difficult, so I try not to begrudge anyone creating horrible merchandise. Heck I still have my Miley Cyrus tackle box. Miley had Disney behind her. Dunno who Bonnamassa has, but horrible is horrible, regardless if it's corporately shoveled out to the masses or not. Which reminds me, anybody got a Gibson MM Jonas Brothers model guitar for sale? Joe's on the gibby parole.

I found out at an early age that just because you are good at math and help the girls in class doesn't mean anything. They still go out with the guitar players.conorb

Bluesking Posted June 1, 2012 Posted June 1, 2012 The RAH gig is his worst video representation IMO. The "New Day Yesterday" DVD is great. Plus it has hot college chicks dancing onstage. That show was at Pierre's in Ft. Wayne, IN.Those chicks are actually strippers from the local gentlemen's club - they were hired to spice up the DVD.All 3 of my sons love that show for some reason.

He does some blazing runs in there that just kick ass.
MCChris Posted June 1, 2012 Author Posted June 1, 2012 Those chicks are actually strippers from the local gentlemen's club - they were hired to spice up the DVD.Makes sense to me. Don't all strippers strip to put themselves through college?

Don't all strippers strip to put themselves through college?Sure - just most forget to 'quit' when they graduate, and don't get 'real' jobs....Well, that's a lot of money to pass up, and for what? To sit in an office taking some asshole's shit for 40 hours a week and probably not even half the pay?Stripping and whoring, in my opinion, are much more respectable ways of earning a living than any of the loan sharks that advertise on daytime television, of example.I don't mean to get on a soapbox, but some of the stuff that you see when you're out of work, most of it designed to separate the less fortunate (or less educated) from what little they have, will really make you rethink the way you view what is "honest."Plus, most strippers are hot.
moozak Posted June 1, 2012 Posted June 1, 2012 oh my God! say it isn't so! Joe is actually trying to make a living with his craft! the shame of it all!Joe is a great guy, great player... very down to earth... and even posts on the LP forum from time to time. he always takes time to talk to his fans and when he does... it's must like talking to the next door neighbor. so he's trying to make a few bucks... where is it written that he shouldn't market himself with tee shirts and misc items just because he plays the blues?and for the record... clapton almost always looks like "he doesn't want to be there" when he plays. i saw him a few years ago and he looked the same way. that's just the way he looks when he's on stage.

S'funny, guitar equipment has a similar effect on me. Separates me from my money and makes me rethink whether I can afford it on an "honest" living.

jisham Posted June 1, 2012 Posted June 1, 2012 Speaking of Montel -- DC is gearing up for medical marijuana sales and turns out, ole Montel is a marijauna mogul and will apparently own a couple of DC's dispensaries. I do know he's been an advocate and user because of his multiple sclerosis
