gorch Posted October 20, 2015 Posted October 20, 2015 Don't blame him for making his living in the industry. He's making modern technology his own and recording and publishing wherever he plays. I wish my bands had done this in the past rath than making a rcord here and there with lots of singled outs.
FGJ Posted October 20, 2015 Posted October 20, 2015 I took my guitar to have him sign it and he grabbed it out if my hands, threw it on the ground, and broke it. He told me I was a homo for not wearing one of his t-shirts, then he kicked me in the groin and stole my girlfriend. Okay, none of that is true, but everyone is saying so many nice things about him, I figured someone should throw a bone to all of the haters.
Steve Haynie Posted October 20, 2015 Posted October 20, 2015 I signed up for Bonamassa's e-mail list. Spam City! Every day it was just a bunch of crap. It felt like if I checked e-mail five times a day there were five e-mails from Joe Bonamassa. It felt good to unsubscribe.
MCChris Posted October 20, 2015 Author Posted October 20, 2015 You're passing on some free entertainment:
coolfeel Posted October 20, 2015 Posted October 20, 2015 Bonamassa can certainly play, I saw him a few years ago and enjoyed it. I really admire his ability to utilize his volume and tone controls to get great tone. Being a mark for Glenn Hughes, BCC hits a nice spot and fills a certain Deep Purple void for me...
Never2Late Posted October 20, 2015 Posted October 20, 2015 The guy is out-marketing KISS. NOBODY out-markets KISS - when you see a Joe Bonamassa funeral casket, or surfboard, you lemme know.....
MCChris Posted October 20, 2015 Author Posted October 20, 2015 NOBODY out-markets KISS - when you see a Joe Bonamassa funeral casket, or surfboard, you lemme know.....He has flip-flops and beach blankets, so he's on his way!
Biz Prof Posted October 20, 2015 Posted October 20, 2015 $399.00!! I think those are featured in the latest issue of "Cork Sniffer".
alantig Posted October 20, 2015 Posted October 20, 2015 The guy is out-marketing KISS. NOBODY out-markets KISS - when you see a Joe Bonamassa funeral casket, or surfboard, you lemme know.....Maybe not, but when Gene Simmons looks at this stuff and says, "Whoa - there's an idea..."
ZR Posted October 20, 2015 Posted October 20, 2015 Went to a concert of Joe's and yes he is a great talent, but I was a little underwhelmed. I couldn't help hearing his eric Johnson-style runs! The best thing I've seen from him is a video where he adjusted his tone and volume on an LP and showed just how many types of sounds one can coax from a guitar. That was great.
anotherfreak Posted October 20, 2015 Posted October 20, 2015 I'll admit it, I like him. I like his first three or so best, and the one with Beth Hart. Oh, the acoustic one has some nice cuts on it as well. The bastard's got awesome chops!!!!!! he seems pretty approachable. I met him @2006 in the Budda booth sitting all alone playing the crap out of a guitar wandered over and it was Joe friggin' Bonamassa!!! I was pretty stunned and he was really cool, gave me some demos signed 'em and chatted about vintage strats.I feel bad for his public un-abashed LOVE for guitars, and the backlash he gets for buying them ALL up. I have seen some real hateful folks bashing him for "rubbing peoples noses in all his cool guitars" and I don't think that is fair. He has the means to get what he wants and that's great, and I feel he is thankful and appreciative about his fans and being able to do what he does.

An old friend of mine had just started playing drums for Joe about then so we got to catch up. Dude can certainly play but I have a short attention span for that kind of stuff. Those cuff links...Much like the Kardashian app for your phone I'm not sure I want to ever meet the person that thought of them or the person that would actually buy them.
gorch Posted October 20, 2015 Posted October 20, 2015 $399.00!! Just short above treefiddy. Actually a steal. It looks like he's the Elon Musk in music. Geniously talented and commercially addicted.
mhmike Posted October 20, 2015 Posted October 20, 2015 Absolutely beautiful! Now I need a Heritage bolo tie
HamerDave Posted October 20, 2015 Posted October 20, 2015 I built my vacation last summer around seeing his show at Red Rocks. The Three Kings show. You're right about his onstage persona, he's more than a little dorky. But, that kid can flat out play. Loved the show. I'll be going to see him when he's up this way next summer. Providence RI in May if memory serves.....

coolfeel Posted October 20, 2015 Posted October 20, 2015 I couldn't help hearing his eric Johnson-style runs! This may not be popular around here but I much prefer to hear Joe. Even though he riffs the Eric Johnson pentatonic blues licks, his tone is better and he doesn't bore me after the 15 minutes.
it's me HHB Posted October 21, 2015 Posted October 21, 2015 They raised money to bury Howling Wolf. I don't see how he can be a "bluesman" and offer this shit, I just don't.

scottcald Posted October 21, 2015 Posted October 21, 2015 I just watched a vid of Joe trying out a maple fretboard LP Custom and the playing there wasn't memorable, just fast pentatonic runs, and they did remind me of Eric Johnson. I feel like Joe's got the technical part down, but need work on the rest.
