zorrow Posted March 2, 2013 Posted March 2, 2013 Vee or not Vee, which guitars have the chunkier necks out there?
hamerhead Posted March 2, 2013 Posted March 2, 2013 Of all the Hamers sitting here currently, the BCR Junior has the biggest neck. Not over-the-top huge, but a nice comfortable handful.
specialk Posted March 2, 2013 Posted March 2, 2013 IIRC, Vintage carves are chunkier than Modern carves.
Bennyboy-UK Posted March 2, 2013 Posted March 2, 2013 Shredies TLE was chunky to me, but not to him with his hands the size of steering wheels!
velorush Posted March 2, 2013 Posted March 2, 2013 Of all the Hamers sitting here currently, the BCR Junior has the biggest neck. Not over-the-top huge, but a nice comfortable handful. Likewise, the Kiz "Senior" (ordered at the time as a group of Juniors, that Kiz is a clever guy!) has the Vintage Carve neck - perfectly chunky!
veatch Posted March 2, 2013 Posted March 2, 2013 The neck on this one is nice and full - i think it is just over an inch thick. And a 0 radius fretboard. Great combination.
MCChris Posted March 2, 2013 Posted March 2, 2013 The Jeff Beck signature Strats have some of the biggest necks you'll find on a production guitar. As does this sonofabitch:
velorush Posted March 3, 2013 Posted March 3, 2013 Oh, I thought we were just talking Hamers. Largest neck in this house is the Fender VHRRI: a perfect "C" a coupla thousandths under an inch from the first fret all the way up with a 9.5" radius and medium jumbo frets. My absolute favorite neck of all time. It's the Sherwood Green one (the black one is now Punkavenger's).
jaberwock Posted March 3, 2013 Posted March 3, 2013 The Jeff Beck signature Strats have some of the biggest necks you'll find on a production guitar. As does this sonofabitch: The earlier model Jeff Beck Strats had the beefy, but extremely comfortable to my hands, neck, later models have a slimmer profile; I remember reading that the reason for the fat neck was that Jeff asked Fender for a more Gibson like tone from the dual lace sensor in the bridge position, I still have, and love mine.
The Shark Posted March 3, 2013 Posted March 3, 2013 This Avalon has the largest neck currently in my vault. The guitar just sounds huge acoustically.
hamerhead Posted March 3, 2013 Posted March 3, 2013 I also had a PRS SE that had a log for a neck. Not uncomfortable, but noticeably bigger than the Junior.
coolfeel Posted March 4, 2013 Posted March 4, 2013 My Talladega Pro has a HUGE neck with a nice soft V contour. I really like it a lot and likely will be the profile I use for future custom orders. My Custom Chap has a modern carve, that after having the Tally Pro, I thought I might not enjoy, but I really like it. It is very much like my Stephen Davies built N4... To my hands, The modern carve profile is slightly different than the vintage carve. It's more of a "flatter" C shape than the Vintage which is more round - if that makes any sense... It's almost like the shoulders of the vintage and modern are the same but the back is flattened a bit...
dragan Posted March 4, 2013 Posted March 4, 2013 My newport is my chunkiest neck , seems a little large in the 1 st pos only , but plays & sounds great . veatch is that a 1975 seagull ?
veatch Posted March 4, 2013 Posted March 4, 2013 My newport is my chunkiest neck , seems a little large in the 1 st pos only , but plays & sounds great . veatch is that a 1975 seagull ? Yup - '75 with a hookpoint. All original, except for the frets (previous owner had them leveled down to near-nothing - fretless wonder-ish.)
dragan Posted March 4, 2013 Posted March 4, 2013 nice ! that was the guitar that got me interested in bc rich back in the 70s( I believe It was their 1st electic ) , I had a 77 mockingbird I bought new , wish i still had it !
Armitage Posted March 4, 2013 Posted March 4, 2013 Remember AnDy? He has a sweet Phantom that had a huge neck...
