anotherfreak Posted April 8, 2013 Posted April 8, 2013 '01 Newport Custom pretty solid, it must have been stored for a LONG time, The frets were black and the switch had corroded on the contacts. A little TLC and VWAHLA! Bliss It does have some wierd "locking" tuners on it, the Imperial buttons didn't fit on the posts, but I had some ebony ones that do. I little lighter, a little brighter That's all, great deal from a good seller, hit a few bumps along the way, but all was handled like a boss. cheers,
Feynman Posted April 8, 2013 Posted April 8, 2013 Is this the happy ending to the money order questions? If so, nice!Congrats.

KassperT Posted April 9, 2013 Posted April 9, 2013 Are those Fender or Gibby scale? Just an awesome guitar- that one really speaks to me. I need to spend some time with Hamer semi hollows to see if they do it for me. Hard to do though.
Bobby Marshall Posted April 9, 2013 Posted April 9, 2013 If that didn't have gold, I might have sold my kidney. Nice one!!!
anotherfreak Posted April 9, 2013 Author Posted April 9, 2013 It is definately a different beast than my Newport Pro, I have the Custom/Custom Custom set in it, and this just has a "airy" springy sound/feel to it. really cops that grant green, kenny burrell sound. I did have to change out the pots, the volume was unusable and I only had a 250k pot on hand, so I swaped the vol pot with the tone pot and wired up the 250k as the tone with a .047 cap and I really like it.I must add the electronics assembly in the Newport is a work of art. this one had been modded so the pots were broken off the bar already, but I pulled a pic I had for refference to see how the wires were run and it is just classy the way these go together as a "unit" It had been over 10 years since I put the pickups in my Newport pro, and I had forgotten about the 'tronics assembly. Whoever laid that out is a great person in my book!
Bobby Marshall Posted April 10, 2013 Posted April 10, 2013 You know, that looks like you would be able to convert her to a wraparound bridge and you would not have to make any modifications.Just a thought.
Bobby Marshall Posted April 11, 2013 Posted April 11, 2013 cough . . . . cough . . .http://www.pigtailmusic.com/Products.php Wrap-Around Intonatable TailpieceOur new Intonatable Tailpiece is a direct retrofit for Gibson, Epiphone PRS, PRS Import, Hamer, and Hamer Import guitars with non-intonatable wrap-around bridges. Will also work as a direct replacement for low neck angle/low neck set guitars such as PRS and Early Les Paul/Les Paul Jr's. It is constructed of lightweight aluminum with plated brass screws and is easily one third of the weight of similar bridges on the market (averages 40 to 42 grams in weight). Now you can have the great vintage tone of a wrap around bridge and an intonated guitar. Relict finish available as special order. anotherfreak Posted April 11, 2013 Author Posted April 11, 2013 So would I need to pull/plug/retap the studs too? I LIKE wraptails
rj2858 Posted April 11, 2013 Posted April 11, 2013 The Hamer Newport Pro Custom is one of the few guitars that gold hardware looks 'right' on, and if you replace that tailpiece with a wrap tail, I'll kiiiillll Bobby! Just sayin'
Bobby Marshall Posted April 11, 2013 Posted April 11, 2013 So would I need to pull/plug/retap the studs too? I LIKE wraptails I think it won't work. Sorry for the misdirect. Looks like posts are closer together, so even if you had conversion studs, not enough space for the wraparound. Sorry.
anotherfreak Posted April 11, 2013 Author Posted April 11, 2013 I'll have to check on the studs, I wish the strings were a bit' longer overall, like a frequensater style tailpiece, My worry is that it's a spruce top, and I haven't seen anthing other than maple caps that can survive having a wraparound on them for very long. Well' I guess sg's do, and they don't start to "lean" after a while.I like the "reversable" mods too

I wonder if the construction on the Newport Pro is different from the Newport 90 which has the wraparound?
gorch Posted April 11, 2013 Posted April 11, 2013 Hhhmmmm, I always think the Newport needs a Bigsby.
