Best Gig Bag?

rugby1970

Question

Posted

Tired of carrying the guitars around in their cases. The studio we jam in is way in the back of the drummer's very large back yard. Can't leave gear in the studio so it's a typical carry from the street with amp, guitar, pedal board, music books, music stand, guitar stand, etc.

I use a hand truck for the amp and all the misc. goes in a milk crate. There are fences, gates, and a large, but very playful German Shepard (I wish he'd keep his f'ing sheep out of the way).

So, what is it: Reunion Blues, Gator, Mono, Protec, Fusion? Can you help a brother out?

Thanks

Hey rugby1970,

Reunion Blues (very nice, but pricey) and Mono (state of the art, expensive) are the top of the line for gig bags. I currently use/recommend a Pro Tec Contego electric guitar gig bag for one guitar. It gets the most use for rehearsals or gigs where I need to carry one guitar. They go for around $125 new or less online. For a double electric guitar gig bag, I use/recommend Pro Bag leather double electric guitar gig bag. I bought mine new for $175.00 which is far less than you will pay from either Reunion Blues ($400-$500) or Mono ($300 plus, non leather). I found the Pro Bag to be well made and durable for my needs. It doesn't have a lot of features like the Mono gig bags, but I like the stylish look.

I've got this Reunion Blues bag that I have no use for, but at some point a previous owner cut off the backpack straps.

Without the straps I doubt it's a solution to your problem, but your welcome to it for the cost of shipping if you think you can use it.

I see what you did there. The girl was Julie. What was the other guy's name?

Thanks for the offer. What would have made him do that?

I bought an Ibanez gig bag, for 135.00 US, semi rigid frame, neck support, excellent padding/protection, and a really good sized pocket at the front which will take three pedals, cords, and a strap with ease; best gig bag I've ever owned, unfortuneately it doesn't appear on their website any more, otherwise I'd buy another one for sure.

I use a Mono bag. Highly recommended by my touring pro buddy (who takes a Mono double bag all around the world). I've checked it at the gate a few times(we fly small planes out of Charlottesville) & have never had any issues.

Edit to add: I wouldn't have gone for the Mono if I was just going back and forth to practice. Mine was bought specifically for lugging guitars on business trips.

I've got one of the mono ones and I like it a lot. It's got a lot of well-thought-out space and shows almost no wear for the time I've had it. I like their new vertical load/unload design too.

The reunion blues bag previously belonged to Lorena Bobbitt, she was just practicing when she cut the straps off. :o;)B):wacko::(

I have two reunion blues cases, I know you hate ebay, but I found 2 with the Fender custom shop logo on them for about 130 each. Its a great bag and built like a tank. I would suggest taking the bag without the straps. If it were me, I would snatch that puppy up and have a local dry cleaner or tailor sew on new straps or D rings (like for SCUBA) and put on what ever strap you want.

Its a great bag.

This is a link to one on the Bay for 160. You could offer less and see what happens. Good luck. If you drop you guitar in one of these bags, its protected.

I stopped using gig bags when those super-light rigid cases came out.

I have line on new, in box, Mono for $160. Going to see it tomorrow. One of those "fell off the back of the truck" deals. Hey, I, live in Jersey; standard operating procedure around here.

That's basically what the ProTec Contego is.

This is so similar to the Ibanez gig big I have.

ProTec Contego fan here.

Reasonably priced, too, if you know where to shop.

Similarly priced on Amazon, Wal-Mart, and Wayfair as well.
