Bought one new in '83 with white pick guard from Cascio's . I still have the confirmation letter from Hamer for warranty registration for Proto # 3 9321 , but that guitar is long gone.. I regret not ponying up for Serials.

peedenmark7 Posted May 15, 2014 Posted May 15, 2014 The Proto 1 is my favorite Hamer. Always has and always will be.. I was so excited as a Kid when they were released as they were the first original Hamer body designs. The hum -single in one ring looked as cool as it was functional , and no clunky neck pickup to crowd the top !! I was never nuts about the Phantom because of the large body, but I wouldn't kick one out of bed today. They are truly the most comfortable Hamer guitar to sit down and play on your lap. The second toggle to activate the neck pickup on the Phantom & Proto-2 was a great idea as well.. Much better than the 5-ways of the day. Pic of my first [ '82 Proto] purchased new in '83 a few weeks after graduating HS. Sorry for the crappy pic.

mathman Posted May 17, 2014 Posted May 17, 2014 I haven't played an original proto but my proto II is an amazing guitar. I do love me a neck pickup so the desire for the original is not great at this point. I do want a phantom.
