soli'd Posted April 29, 2016 Posted April 29, 2016 I thought I read that shark picked up Velo's 0023 that was for sale recently. I added that to 45 to get 68. There's a good chance I have no idea what I'm talking about. It's quite the mystery.

Which, of course, would render "its course" incorrect. Nope. You're comparing common nouns with pronouns, which have a different rule. Possessive forms of pronouns never use apostrophes because their possessive forms are self-contained: he becomes his, her becomes hers, they becomes theirs, you becomes your or yours, etc. It's easier to remember if you consider that we never use hi's or her's for possessive form, so neither should you use it's for anything but a contraction of it is or it has. Same goes for whose, yours, ours, theirs, etc. No apostrophe for possessive pronouns. Ever.
hamerhead Posted April 29, 2016 Posted April 29, 2016 Well I'll be dipped in shit. Learn something new every day. Or the 4th grade. I can't remember. Thanks, JB.
cmatthes Posted April 29, 2016 Posted April 29, 2016 JB is right on. Any time you see "it's", substitute "it is" (or "it has"...) and see if it sounds correct to you as a contraction v. a plural.
