devrock Posted January 1, 2016 Posted January 1, 2016 Well, I just stumbled upon this supreme bit of weirdness: http://www.espguitars.com/pages/2016-product-previewGT has an LTD signature model coming out. This strikes me as all sorts of odd. First, the guitar itself is beyond hideous. Second, I find it strange he's coming out with a sig from ESP when he's NEVER played an ESP before and is nearing the end of his career. I'm just all sorts of confused about this right now.
scottcald Posted January 1, 2016 Posted January 1, 2016 Looks like he wanted an SG, and ESP was willing to do a sig model, so there you go. You forgot to mention the Kahler! Yeah, the red is awful.
Steve Haynie Posted January 1, 2016 Posted January 1, 2016 Glenn has slipped an ESP guitar into his show guitars in the last 10 years or so. The custom shaped Hamer that was made with the odd shape was mirrored by a similar looking ESP. As loyal as Glenn has been to Hamer, particularly one or two guitars that actually got played year after year, we can assume to still see him play Hamers alongside this new ESP signature model.
Studio Custom Posted January 1, 2016 Posted January 1, 2016 Why would anyone be loyal to disbanded brand? I doubt a Fender is providing service to old Haner users.
Steve Haynie Posted January 1, 2016 Posted January 1, 2016 Glenn has continued to play the guitars he really likes even after the company that made them went out of business.
Caddie Posted January 2, 2016 Posted January 2, 2016 Gentlemen, gentlemen, gentlemen... you all (or shoulda that be ya'all?) know its all about money. Come on, do you really think he plays much of anything on stage without getting paid? Soon the promoters will force the band members to wear shirts with logos all over it, just like the PGA & PBA. If the money was good enough we'd have Tom Petty Signature Blended Weed being sold in Colorado. Baseball at Verizon Park, football at Cisco Field, etc. There's a pattern here. Marketing. All the best to ya'all for 2016!Cheers!caddie

It may not be the LTD that you buy in a store, but I'd think he'll play it along with the Hamers etc.
tbonesullivan Posted January 2, 2016 Posted January 2, 2016 ESP/LTD make good guitars, and they seem to be very good with keeping their signature artists happy. Not sure why he decided to have an ugly as hell SG made for him though.
scottcald Posted January 2, 2016 Posted January 2, 2016 Looks like they just took the red from this: http://www.espguitars.com/products/13424-gh-600?category_id=1965188-gary-holtand applied it to the viper.

Steve Haynie Posted January 2, 2016 Posted January 2, 2016 The Bruce Kulick model ESP was shaped like an SG, too.
Biz Prof Posted January 2, 2016 Posted January 2, 2016 It's obviously a nod to the early days of Priest, when GT rocked an SG. The red accents are....weird.A couple of loosely-related observations: 1. The sunburst Lynch Tiger is still f___ing awesome after all these years.2. If Queensryche logos/symbols were cowbell, legendary producer Bruce Dickinson would have a fever for it once he saw that Wilton signature model. Sheesh...

Sheesh...I think since they won they name back, he's putting it everywhere. I thought the old version of that looked better.
devrock Posted January 2, 2016 Author Posted January 2, 2016 Why would anyone be loyal to disbanded brand? I doubt a Fender is providing service to old Haner users.I didn't mean to imply anything about loyalty. It's just a HIDEOUS guitar and the timing is odd, since I truly think he won't be playing much longer. I've wanted either the readl deal or replica of almost every guitar he played. NEVER will I want this monstrosity.Steve, Glenn DID play some odd-shaped black guitar for a song or two during the Nostradamus tour (and a Gibson Explorer for one song a night), but I thought it was the last guitar Hamer built for him. I don't *ever* recall him playing an ESP. For the latest tour over the past year and a half, it was his two Hamers (the black GT and his white custom - and occassionally the red GT). For the British Steel tour, he brought out the old SG and Strat.
RobB Posted January 2, 2016 Posted January 2, 2016 Besides the color scheme, it’s not a bad looking guitar at all. I like the Viper models. They balance really well and have a great, chunky thud, perfect for metal. Certainly nicer than those awkward, bow-tie things Hamer built for him.

It's clearly the worst looking guitar he had.....until now. I do like the Viper skewed SG look, but the red just stinks.
tbonesullivan Posted January 2, 2016 Posted January 2, 2016 Haven't played either one. How do the LTDs compare to the ESPs?The higher end LTDs are nice. They used to be made in Korea, now maybe indonesia? Now they also have the E-II level, which are factory made in Japan. So you've got ESP Custom, ESP, E-II, and ESP LTD. They used to have an LTD Elite brand.Kinda reminds me of the levels that Ibanez has now for their guitars as well.

The low end LTDs seem to be coming from Vietnam now.
Steve Haynie Posted January 2, 2016 Posted January 2, 2016 Here is an old video of Glenn with his guitars. The only ESP in the video is an electric-acoustic.

A few years ago when I was getting back into guitars I was looking for one of these and gave up because of all the "Viper x0000" series. It got too confusing. Pepper Keenan: My all time Guitar Hero.

Of course he's going to say great things about it. You have a link to this interview??
scottcald Posted January 2, 2016 Posted January 2, 2016 Here is an old video of Glenn with his guitars. The only ESP in the video is an electric-acoustic. That's the one I saw where he says the one signature (bowtie) was his design.

That's the one I saw where he says the one signature (bowtie) was his design. He has/had TWO of the bow tie ones. I wonder what happened to the black one. He's only played the white one the past several years.
