We told the bar owner to save his money and went home. Turns out all the area bars were dead which was a relief because Tuesdays had been good.Thursday: Mother Trucker at On The Rocks in Dublin, OhioFriday: Mother Trucker at Woo Doggies in Hilliard, OhioSaturday Mother Trucker Unplugged (acoustic duo) at the Hilton at Easton.

MCChris Posted January 4, 2006 Posted January 4, 2006 MOE the Fish (my cover band) LOL! Ever get any neo-hippie jam band fans to show up to your gigs because of your name, only to hit 'em with "Our Lips Are Sealed"?
BCR Greg Posted January 4, 2006 Posted January 4, 2006 Grumpy Old Men at the Ale House in Mechanicsburg, PA. Saturday night.

Zoner Posted January 4, 2006 Posted January 4, 2006 Himbos @ Inn Cahoots in Hamel, MN Fri and Sat night. These will be my last cover band gigs as I have finally realized playing other people's tunes in smoke filled bars to people that are mostly annoying is not worth the time/energy/physical toll. I am now 41 years old with a wife and 2 kids, and this is no longer a good time. I will have to find another outlet to keep sane i'm sure(dust off the recording gear, I guess), but no more crappy gigs 100+ miles away, thank you very much. Now I just have to find a way to justify my G.A.S . Z

We gigged every weekend, so I know where you're coming from, and I think I have the solution (at least it worked for me). 1. Get a job that pays enough that music can be for enjoyment. 2. Find a group of guys that think like you. 3. Form a band for fun. 4. Rarely gig so each show is special. 5. Spend more time with the family!
Ethan Posted January 5, 2006 Posted January 5, 2006 Sadly we had to cancel on the show we were on this weekend, my drummer and bass player both had deaths in the family last week.

Plus, (at least here in MN) the band/bar scene is in a serious slump - ask any booking agent. The worst is when the group of guys who used to think like you start thinking and acting differently after 5 yrs. Noone wants to rehearse, we've basically given up on originals, and even the greatest song ever written gets tedious to play after like the 500th time. Not sure how else to seguey into: ShakyJake : Friday Grandpa Al's - Faribault MN Saturday Diamond's - Ramsey MN peace,
Zoner Posted January 5, 2006 Posted January 5, 2006 BillW, I'm glad it's not my imagination about the scene around here sucking a bit. Scooter, you just laid out what I had planned to do with myself when the gigs no longer revolve around "how much are they paying" and "do you guys know Brown eyed girl?". I still love to play, even when the songs don't exactly move me, so the next step is to round up some casual players and have some real fun. The family have been bugging me a lot too since I'm JUNK on gig weekends due to lack of sleep and second hand smoke (I don't even get toasted, I'm just getting old!) ZOh, And by the way, BillW - do you have a dude named George Hamilton in your band? I see your pics in the CP all the time and went to school and used to jam with a drummer that looks just like one of your band members. Imagine a bunch of 15 year old noobs trying to learn 2112 (although George could play it pretty well!) - yikes!

Spend more time playing at your local HFC jam center! Hey Zoner, you going to make it over next Friday to get a look at my triple-coil triumvirate?
Zoner Posted January 5, 2006 Posted January 5, 2006 Yes indeed I am, I just need the particulars again - where and when + what to bring. Is there a drummer lined up yet? Z

Zoner Posted January 5, 2006 Posted January 5, 2006 See if he remembers Chris from F.M. Grass Jr High. I'll have to come out and see Shakey Jake for some heckling ( ) as soon I learn 2112 again - that way I can go in with my head held high! Thanks. Z
