Miss Charlie Posted March 24, 2005 Posted March 24, 2005 On Ebay Last Night! Now I hope you will all bring to my attention some Blueburst Newports.
Mike_C Posted March 24, 2005 Posted March 24, 2005 I don't think I've seen a blueburst newport. Anybody order one or seen one?
Brooks Posted March 24, 2005 Posted March 24, 2005 charlie, the newports will feedback when played thru high gain/high volume rigs. unless you're changing musical genres or are just going to play low gain passages, you might want to consider a solidbody.
silentman Posted March 24, 2005 Posted March 24, 2005 Or there's the Spidey recommeded fix: Black balloon blown up inside the cavity. Not sure if this works. It might work in conjuction with the half a $20.
pesocaster Posted March 24, 2005 Posted March 24, 2005 Hey Charlie,I think you'll have to custom order blueburst .... But I have seen a few Black ones around.... Bang for buck an Artist may be another option... and they are more readily available on the used market....
ceeb Posted March 24, 2005 Posted March 24, 2005 I put Helium Baloons in mine, to help make it feel lighter.
Nuclear Wessel Posted March 24, 2005 Posted March 24, 2005 I put Helium Baloons in mine, to help make it feel lighter. Didn't that make the headstock balance problem worse? I suppose if you tied a large helium balloon to the headstock...
Miss Charlie Posted March 24, 2005 Author Posted March 24, 2005 Brooks - I am hoping that the Newport, because it is chambered, will play like a smaller version of my Monaco? I play slow moody stuff, so I love the noise.pesocaster - There MUST be a Blue Newport out there for me, but yes, I am not adverse to finding a slick guitar painter to do the job if need be.
GusS Posted March 24, 2005 Posted March 24, 2005 the newport is larger than the monaco superpro. it also weighs less.it sounds like ass for industrial metal, especially the bigsby/phatcats ones.
Brooks Posted March 24, 2005 Posted March 24, 2005 Brooks - I am hoping that the Newport, because it is chambered, will play like a smaller version of my Monaco? I play slow moody stuff, so I love the noise. the newport is totally hollow (like an acoustic), not chambered (chambered is solid w/ some "chambers" routed out). so the newport is MUCH more prone to squealing feedback than the monaco, esp w/ the super high gain stuff i heard on your cd.
Miss Charlie Posted March 24, 2005 Author Posted March 24, 2005 Hmmm... that sucks, now I need to think of another guitar? I wonder why I thougth the Newport was smaller? Pesocaster - what in the world was that cute little guitar I fell in love with at The BBQ?
BadgerDave Posted March 24, 2005 Posted March 24, 2005 Charlie, If you would consider a solidbody, this Studio Custom is available. '04, perfect as-new condition, OHSC (strings & hardware included too - sorry for the poor quality bench photo) $2K.
pesocaster Posted March 24, 2005 Posted March 24, 2005 I think a Newprt Pro would be a match made in Heaven / Hell For Charlie.... Buckers and a TOM bridge.... I've heard Charlie play.... very ZZ Top-ish ..... Her musical styles are not limited to Goth Metal... Very versitle / well rounded musician here... She Bonded with Johnny B's Newport at the last 2 BBQ's ..... It looked like love to me... hahahaha
Brooks Posted March 24, 2005 Posted March 24, 2005 I've heard Charlie play.... very ZZ Top-ish ..... Her musical styles are not limited to Goth Metal... Very versitle / well rounded musician here... right on, didn't mean to imply that's ALL she can play;my comments were based on the assumption that she was planning to play some guitar onstage w/ her band; a newport wouldn't be the best choice for that kinda loud heavy thang.
Miss Charlie Posted March 25, 2005 Author Posted March 25, 2005 BadgerDave - Ooooooooh... now that is what I am talking about, but I do have my heart set on a chambered, hollow body or an acoustic electric. But yes, that finish is sweet. BCR Greg - can you send it again, I have been moving. pesocaster - thank you so much for that zz top insert... haha! It is not me that is goth... I swear! I swear! Brooks - that's cool, it is the music I am known for. I could never hold a flame to the guitar players I work with so I doubt I would ever play a guitar with them, but I do write with one, before I program in all the industrial, so I need something really thick sounding, moody and droning for writing and some possible acoustic stuff I may do.
BCR Greg Posted March 25, 2005 Posted March 25, 2005 Awright, Miss Charlie, I'll let you have that excuse. LOL Send me an email to greg at bcrmusic dot com and we'll hook up.
cmatthes Posted March 25, 2005 Posted March 25, 2005 Well, it isn't a Newport, it isn't even a guitar, but it's chambered and it's blueburst (sorta!):
straightblues Posted March 25, 2005 Posted March 25, 2005 For those who know, how do the Monaco and Newports sounds vary!!! Can you describe the differences?
Brooks Posted March 25, 2005 Posted March 25, 2005 ... or an acoustic electric. I need something really thick sounding, moody and droning for writing and some possible acoustic stuff I may do. in that case, you should check out a duotone. chambered electric w/ an acoustic bridge and 2 outputs (electric & acoustic). i have 2 of 'em, i love 'em. i use 'em w/ my neo-jazz band (in which i occasionally blast a few powerchords!!), as well as my acoustic duo gig. smaller body size, & less prone to feedback, too. edited for editing purposes
BruceM Posted March 25, 2005 Posted March 25, 2005 in that case, you should check out a duotone. chambered electric w/ an acoustic bridge and 2 outputs (electric & acoustic). There was a blue duotone custom for sale here last year, IIRC. It was originally custom ordered by Ben, right? Who ended up with that one?
ZR Posted March 25, 2005 Posted March 25, 2005 Can Duotone's do metal? Seriously. This is not a sarcastic/ironic/tragic/whatever post ...I really want to know!
Brooks Posted March 25, 2005 Posted March 25, 2005 Can Duotone's do metal? Seriously. This is not a sarcastic/ironic/tragic/whatever post ...I really want to know! sure. my goldtop has humbuckers (i was told a dimarzio tonezone), its got lotsa chunk. my blonde duo has phatcats, which sound great w/ distortion but tend to squeal feedback at high volumes (fwiw, iommi had the same problem w/ his P-90's in the early 70's).
Jeff R Posted March 25, 2005 Posted March 25, 2005 They should have named it the Duo-Everything. The one I had could do metal just fine with a different - but nice - voice.
