crunchee Posted March 30, 2019 Posted March 30, 2019 No affiliation, it's at DGS' Milwaukee store. Not new FWIW, and still pricey: https://davesguitar.com/products/gibson-custom-shop/historic-1959-les-paul-standard-brazilian-vintage-lemon-milwaukee-608-790-9816/
Tortious Posted March 31, 2019 Posted March 31, 2019 And just like that, bam. Who got it? 🤤 Though I've seen them go from sold to un-sold occasionally. Quite a looker.
crunchee Posted March 31, 2019 Author Posted March 31, 2019 Dang, that was quick, especially for a Saturday night! Although it IS a payday weekend plus the end of the month, plus Tax Refunds are a-comin' (kinda maybe, when compared to last year).
ARM OF HAMER Posted March 31, 2019 Posted March 31, 2019 Pretty guitar but..........................7K holy smokes!

Quite a upcharge I'd say for something that most people can't tell the difference of. The difference is a little worse than $2K...the DGS asking price for a USED '59 LP CS RI (Indian Rosewood) is $4250-$4350 vs. $6995 for a used one with Brazilian Rosewood. DGS has a USED '58 CS RI Plaintop LP right now for $2995, and I've seen lightly-figured USED '58 CS RI LPs there for that same price. Of course, YMMV at other dealers, and probably will.
santellavision Posted March 31, 2019 Posted March 31, 2019 Man, It seemed like just a few years ago, $4-6K was the price for a new Custom Shop LP. Now, I'm seeing $9K+. Insane.
Tortious Posted June 15, 2019 Posted June 15, 2019 Rolled in yesterday, the proliferation of them must be affecting pricing. Now available for the low, low discount price of only $6495. 🤩 This one's rather fetching. https://davesguitar.com/products/gibson/historic-59-reissue-les-paul-standard-brazilian-18-8/

Tortious Posted June 17, 2019 Posted June 17, 2019 Another one just rolled in there. 🤤 https://davesguitar.com/products/gibson-custom-shop/historic-1959-les-paul-standard-brazilian-4/

Don't know. Anything is possible I guess.

bubs_42 Posted June 17, 2019 Posted June 17, 2019 Between market saturation and higher prices, it surprises me that he can move any of them.

Yes, it's amazing, but I truly believe that the best dealers will always be able to move the big money items. Dave's is that kind of place, imo.

The 50 used ones which look new, are part of the last 50 new ones that didn’t sell for $9k. Changing the tag from new to used won’t get a dealer in trouble for violating MAP policy, and will allow him to move that inventory.
Tortious Posted June 17, 2019 Posted June 17, 2019 They had over 50 new ones, so unless he is hiding them (possible, but I still think it's unlikely), they do appear to be selling. As recently as a couple months ago, any time a used one showed up at $7k it was snapped up within minutes. There does appear to be some market for them at/near these prices. How much of one? Well, that can always change.
mrjamiam Posted June 17, 2019 Posted June 17, 2019 New for $9k and used like new for $6.5k tells me that I’d be flushing $2.5k down the toilet to buy new. But I’m not in the demographic, so what does that matter?
