tomteriffic Posted September 22, 2021 Posted September 22, 2021 This one: http://www.vibramate.com/vibramate-string-spoiler.php Not a rhetorical question. I bought a Gretsch and a String Spoiler to go with it. Returned the Gretsch but still have the string spoiler still in the bubble wrap. Send me some postage and whatever you feel like over and above that and end your Bigsby re-string nightmares. Hit me here or at tomteriffic1952@woh.rr.com
gorch Posted September 22, 2021 Posted September 22, 2021 Checking time zones, I must say @cmatthes never sleeps. Now first in line for good vibrations. That‘s a nice tool that I think is on the market for quite a while. I thought buying one myself for the Newport once. Changing strings on the Newport never killed me, so I didn‘t. No prestidigitation required. (There‘s nothing but a good dictionary and thesaurus. )

He must just be maxxed-out to fuck on amphetamines and Skittles from 6AM every day You are dead right - he's on it 24x7 worldwide.

Might've even kept that Newport if it had one of those........or not.......Bigsbys belong on Gretschs.
GuitarGuy65 Posted September 22, 2021 Posted September 22, 2021 I've got one for my Gretsch Tennessee Rose and they are awesome a definitely a time and trouble saver...
Jakeboy Posted September 22, 2021 Posted September 22, 2021 I put one on my Newport a couple years ago and love it.
tomteriffic Posted September 22, 2021 Author Posted September 22, 2021 All byebye. Thanks for playing.
The Shark Posted September 22, 2021 Posted September 22, 2021 When I read the thread title, I thought it should be moved to the Outer Circle!

santellavision Posted September 26, 2021 Posted September 26, 2021 Just to add to this conversation. A really cool trick is the Tom Anderson Guitarworks Bigsby mod. You pull the pins out and drill holes through the bar. Way easier to string and sounds better as there is stronger string contact.

That’s a great mod - I’ve got it on a Bigsby as well, but it’s fairly expensive to have done. Callaham sells pre-tapped bars as well, but only in silver. The ButchieBars are also pretty intriguing as another lower-profile option, and come in various finishes/versions.
santellavision Posted September 26, 2021 Posted September 26, 2021 I drilled my own, not too hard. But, here's the link to Callahan Auto Parts (ur, Callaham Guitars) https://www.callahamguitars.com/bigsby_bridge_mainstringshaft_catalog.htm
cmatthes Posted September 26, 2021 Posted September 26, 2021 Tom’s VibraMate arrived today (Thanks, sir!!). I’ve got a Callaham bar on one of my Bigsby-equipped guitars, and have an Anderson-modded one at Chez Stike. Looking forward to trying out the VibraMate!
svl Posted September 27, 2021 Posted September 27, 2021 Trick to remember when restringing with the Vibramate- always leave either the old G or D on her to make the job easier. I switched from the Vibra to the Callaham because the Callaham was easier to deal with (and had better contact), but then ditched the PITA Bigsby for the Duesy trem...
cmatthes Posted September 27, 2021 Posted September 27, 2021 These are good alternatives too. I've got one on my M3 now, super well-made and string changing is a BREEZE.
svl Posted September 27, 2021 Posted September 27, 2021 One great upgrade is the Reverend Spring- massive difference from the stiff Bigsby springs.
cmatthes Posted September 28, 2021 Posted September 28, 2021 I've got replacement springs in all my Bigsbys. You can get stiffer or looser tension. At about $10 each, that was a no-brainer!
