edgar_allan_poe Posted March 24, 2006 Posted March 24, 2006 I'm not insulted. I just don't think that a splash of paint on a $1000 guitar makes it worth $8000. If it was HIS then maybe. But not for a replica. IMHO Ok...I can't take this anymore....I have to say it. Hamer fans used to be able to bitch about this in the past...we can't do that anymore. A splash of paint is not worth any more money than binding...sorry, but I don't see the difference.
acb Posted March 24, 2006 Posted March 24, 2006 $8000 for a painted Gibson V is the result of MBA's reinventing a company... collector items for deep pockets and expensive wall hangings at the Hard Rock Planet Wherever.Nigel Tufnel: The sustain, listen to it.Marty DiBergi: I don't hear anything.Nigel Tufnel: Well you would though, if it were playing.
hardheartedbill Posted March 24, 2006 Posted March 24, 2006 I am replacing the p/up's this weekend with a set of these, from GFS - (continuing the pearl block inlay theme, and converting from the Schenker-type tone capability (I have enough other H.B. equipped guit's) to a much more Frank Marino-ish "single-coil on mahogany" vibe, which I have come to preferHey Gfiddler! Please let me (us) know what you think about those GFS pickups - I'm intrigued... I LOVE the GFS strat set I've been using, very very impressed w/ them and will be putting them in a parts0caster "Blackie" clone I'm building

I'm impressed with a Tele lead pickemup and set of Strat hot-rail types that I put in a Pacifica 12-string. I have a set of white coil hot humbuckers that are probably going to wind up in my Graphic Special, but no opinion on them yet.
bamboohead Posted March 24, 2006 Posted March 24, 2006 Good point Poe. Your right as rain. It seems to be the norm nowdays. I wish it was not, but what can you do?
edgar_allan_poe Posted March 24, 2006 Posted March 24, 2006 I wish it was not, but what can you do?Absolutely nothing. But what you *can't* do, is criticize Gibson, PRS, or Fender.
cmatthes Posted March 24, 2006 Posted March 24, 2006 But what you *can't* do, is criticize Gibson, PRS, or Fender. Sure ya can! That's what the O.C. is all about, right? In the spirit of the thread, I will volunteer my formidible artistic skills to anybody who has a Historic '67 Vee that they want "Montereyed". It will be considerably less than the difference between the two Gibbys, and I'll even provide a Certificate of Authenticity along with an original Pen & Ink of Jimi (with YOUR guitar!), a bag of M&Ms (non-Peanut), a Mini MagLite (no batteries), four paperclips and a Green highlighter. Contact me through the board. Spaces are filling up fast!
MCChris Posted March 24, 2006 Posted March 24, 2006 I wish it was not, but what can you do? Absolutely nothing. But what you *can't* do, is criticize Gibson, PRS, or Fender. Can we criticize Huber then, a company charging outrageous sums right out of the gate?
edgar_allan_poe Posted March 24, 2006 Posted March 24, 2006 Can we criticize Huber then, a company charging outrageous sums right out of the gate? tongue.gifABSOLUTELY!!! You can even do it with my blessing. LOL!!!
sirDaniel Posted March 24, 2006 Posted March 24, 2006 an original Pen & Ink of Jimi (with YOUR guitar!), a bag of M&Ms (non-Peanut), a Mini MagLite (no batteries), four paperclips and a Green highlighter. case candy?
Mobster Posted March 24, 2006 Posted March 24, 2006 Can we criticize Huber then, a company charging outrageous sums right out of the gate? Not too outrageous. Actually, he should charge more. He's backlogged over a year right now.
BCR Greg Posted March 24, 2006 Posted March 24, 2006 Good to see you are all in on this one guys. Sorry for the post on the topic and I'll try to remember that posting a collectors piece on this post is insulting to most. I suppose i now know that REAL guitarists wouldnt even think of PLAYING an $8000 guitar! (yeah right) . Thanks for the positive feedback guys. I play lots of guitars that are WAY MORE than $8000 guitars, because guitars SHOULD be played. Those stupid abominations are cashing in on Jimi's legacy, and are nothing more than tarted up Flying Vees with fancy paint. If you didn't hear what you wanted to hear, sorry about your luck.As to REAL players, many of the posters on this thread are FANTASTIC guitarists, and their opinion matters to me, whether I agree with it or not.
Submariner85 Posted March 25, 2006 Posted March 25, 2006 Can't say I dig it for any price: Ugly. And what's with the lyre vibrola? Makes it an UN-V to me. Country? Brokeback Mountain edition?
The Hellion Posted April 2, 2006 Posted April 2, 2006 Ah, nice V there, I like it a lot..... but! 1. I'd never play a signature model (c'mon, do you know any guitar hero who HAS played signature model??? )* 2. I'd never use more money to guitar than 1500 euros. If you can't get good guitar with that price, there's something wrong with you I think some of the guitars are way overpriced (Hamer, Gibson, Fender... every guitar corporation has it's own overpriced guitars). The materials are cheap and the work is not very expensive either... then why the high price..? Anyway, I don't mind if guitar corporations make expensive signature models, its ok, but those non-signature model guitars that cost more than 1500 euros make me sick. One guitar is enough for me and that's normal Flying V by Gibson. Sure it would be fun to own a guitar for metal (emg 81s) and maybe one for heavy metal (X2N, super distortion), but life is simplier with one guitar! *ok, I might use Phantom GT, but Phantom A5 would be just fine (even though I prefer 2 humbuckers in my guitar).
kizanski Posted April 23, 2006 Posted April 23, 2006 $8000 is starting to look like a bargain.I'll take TWO!!
sonicblue1960 Posted May 1, 2006 Posted May 1, 2006 Now here's the way Vee's are done!! Just give me a Bigsby and some whiskey, and I'LL be the VoodooChile!!
