If anyone is interrested give me a call @ 423-912-0727. The go on sale on the 24th. I can place an order for you on the 23rd. Thanks, Jimmy Overbay
RobB Posted March 22, 2006 Posted March 22, 2006 They are $8000 a piece.Sure, I'll get right on that. I'll take three...I always thought the marketing execs @Gibson were just weekend junkies. Now it's obvious they're full-blown crackheads!
guitfiddler Posted March 22, 2006 Posted March 22, 2006 I wonder if they'll include that dumbass tone-sucking vibrola tailpiece, as was on Jimi's - and as was on my first SG many years ago. I never used it anyway and soon removed the arm from it. I just snagged this little piece for well under $800., and thus my Flying V fever is cured for life. I am astonished at how well it is made, it actually is so good it could pass for a GMP (r.i.p.) produced piece.
RobB Posted March 22, 2006 Posted March 22, 2006 GF, that is badass. Around 1980 I was @Voltage Guitars in LA and they had a matching set of white Explorer/V's, both with neck binding. The V was almost identical to your Edwards, but with an ebony board and no mounting rings. I took the Explorer home and, like an idiot, sold it during a bout of poverty in SF.Those Edwards guitars are the shit, great values.

To answer Michael's question, with a bit of detail.... it is an "Edwards," a division of ESP Guitars, produced in Japan, for sale in Japan. The "Navigator" brand of replicas is a div. of ESP also. Thanks, Rob. Two p.s.'s - 1. I have yet to see another one like it. 2. I am replacing the p/up's this weekend with a set of these, from GFS - (continuing the pearl block inlay theme, and converting from the Schenker-type tone capability (I have enough other H.B. equipped guit's) to a much more Frank Marino-ish "single-coil on mahogany" vibe, which I have come to prefer.

Hamerfanclubbers are REAL guitarist who PLAY their instruments. You don't see an awefull lot of Hamers behind velvet ropes. Move along....
HAMERMAN Posted March 22, 2006 Posted March 22, 2006 The V was almost identical to your Edwards, but with an ebony board and no mounting rings. That sounds just about perfect!

Luke Posted March 22, 2006 Posted March 22, 2006 I have no doubt Gibson will receive 300 orders. I also have no doubt that it will take dealers two years to unload them given the price. I expect to see several on gbase within a month of release. A year after the last one ships from Gibson, they should be selling for a 30% discount in mint condition on eBay. It will take a decade from there for the guitar to return to its $8000 price point, unforunately that $8000 will only have $5360 of today's buying power, so an original owner would still be taking a loss. To get out "even" a decade later would require your sales price to be $11,278 at that time, good luck. I suggest sitting on the sidelines for a year and buying a prime example at a steep discount, then you can get out "even" anytime you wish.
guitfiddler Posted March 22, 2006 Posted March 22, 2006 Thanks, Rob (for the web link to Edwards/Japan.) Very interesting ! Here is one I saw, that I really like also -
guitfiddler Posted March 22, 2006 Posted March 22, 2006 I'm also fortunate to have acquired one of these Edwards "laquer top" models, last year -
Disturber Posted March 23, 2006 Posted March 23, 2006 I'm also fortunate to have acquired one of these Edwards "laquer top" models, last year - Please tell about that Edwards. What kind of laquear are on them.Pickups are Duncans, right?I might be able to snag a guitar in Japanand I'm looking into good options. An Edwards might be a good choice. How is the neck profile. F, medium, (or even thin?)?
MCChris Posted March 23, 2006 Posted March 23, 2006 I'm also fortunate to have acquired one of these Edwards "laquer top" models, last year - Good lord. Even BIGGER Duncan logos?
kizanski Posted March 23, 2006 Posted March 23, 2006 I'm also fortunate to have acquired one of these Edwards "laquer top" models, last year - Good lord. Even BIGGER Duncan logos?TWO logos!
santellavision Posted March 23, 2006 Posted March 23, 2006 Good lord. Even BIGGER Duncan logos? OK, why don't they just do it. You all know they are inching to this!!!!
guitfiddler Posted March 23, 2006 Posted March 23, 2006 Those "bigger logos" are peel-off (pressure-sensitive) stickers that S.D. has been using, for lord-knows-why. They actually cover the slugs on the slug coil and must be removed before playing. That leaves the "normal" big logo emprinted on the screw coils.

Please let me (us) know what you think about those GFS pickups - I'm intrigued...
sw686blue Posted March 24, 2006 Posted March 24, 2006 I'm also fortunate to have acquired one of these Edwards "laquer top" models, last year - That is killer dude!
edgar_allan_poe Posted March 24, 2006 Posted March 24, 2006 Hamerfanclubbers are REAL guitarist who PLAY their instruments. You don't see an awefull lot of Hamers behind velvet ropes.Move along....edited to remove a possibly explosive post. It had to do with the quote but was not an attack on sir D, who I happen to like.
jbay555 Posted March 24, 2006 Author Posted March 24, 2006 Good to see you are all in on this one guys. Sorry for the post on the topic and I'll try to remember that posting a collectors piece on this post is insulting to most. I suppose i now know that REAL guitarists wouldnt even think of PLAYING an $8000 guitar! (yeah right) . Thanks for the positive feedback guys.
bamboohead Posted March 24, 2006 Posted March 24, 2006 I'm not insulted. I just don't think that a splash of paint on a $1000 guitar makes it worth $8000. If it was HIS then maybe. But not for a replica. IMHO
