Personal "Top Ten desert island albums"...but with a (double) twist

Recommended Posts

Got into a discussion with one of my peers about the above subject, as all of us are probably wont to do at times. In discussing selections, we agreed that the original format of the albums should be considered---no bonus track versions, no boxed sets, anthologies, etc. And the original format for all but two on my list were LPs.

I took the p.o.v. that if an album was originally released as a multiple LP set, it counts as one selection, not dependent on how many LP discs it had. Even a "triple album" like Yessongs would be considered one selection 'coz it has one title....and that would mean even more music for a castaway.

So what if such a list had to be made up of CDs that were originally double and triple albums? I realize music formats beyond CDs would have different parameters or whatever but I stopped my musical entertainment collection with CDs. Not seeking more modern formats.

Sussing out selections happened quicker than I thunk it would, and I'm still five over the limit. So what if your top ten list was comprised only originally double and triple (and beyond?) albums?

Space Ritual-Hawkwind

Meltdown-King Crimson

Chicago Transit Authority

Wheels of Fire -Cream

Rock of Ages-The Band

Live at the Fillmore East-Allman Brothers Band

Are You Ready?-Atlanta Rhythm Section

Live in the Air Age-Be Bop Deluxe

Extra Terrestrial Live-Blue Oyster Cult

Eagles Live

Yessongs

Better Motorhead than Dead

The Wall-Pink Floyd

Poland-Tangerine Dream

R30-Rush (I almost picked Exit...Stage Left but the original production sounded kinda murky, at least to me. YMMV)

Because we are old and crotchety, Steve. That's why. Stick to the premise, whippersnapper.

Now drop and give me the names of the top 10 banjo players.

To get back on topic: Willie, why not just take a satellite phone loaded with iTunes or Spotify and not be limited to just 10 albums? And call in a rescue....

About the only double albums that'd make my desert island list would be Genesis' "The Lamb Lies Down on Broadway" and Clash's "London Calling".  Sorry, but all the rest would be single albums, but that's just me.
