formula73 Posted August 9, 2008 Posted August 9, 2008 Sorry, no pics, but it was at a local bar up on stage with one of those stoner/doom rock bands. How rare are these? I didn't even know they existed.
Steve Haynie Posted August 9, 2008 Posted August 9, 2008 I have one like the quilt version in Chris' bottom two photos. My 8 string is also a Chaparral bass. Chaparral basses are not rare, but it may be that there have not been any popping up for sale for a while. Do not forget the 12 string version that has been in the Hamer catalog for years.
atquinn Posted August 9, 2008 Posted August 9, 2008 That's what I play: Best-looking bass model Hamer ever made. Awesome! -Austin
stobro Posted August 10, 2008 Posted August 10, 2008 Here's my bolt-on with a quilt body and reverse headstock:
unfun 75 Posted August 10, 2008 Posted August 10, 2008 Some nice basses in this thread! Here's one I bought from cmatthes then sold to my band-mate and buddy, Derrick.
Jimbilly Posted August 10, 2008 Posted August 10, 2008 I've got a 4 and a 5. I've had the 5 since probably '93, it's an '89. I don't have any good pics of the 5, this will have to do. It's the Iridescent color, w/ Bartolini soapbars.
MCChris Posted August 10, 2008 Posted August 10, 2008 Reverse headstock Chap basses are pure WINSAUCE!
mc2 Posted August 10, 2008 Posted August 10, 2008 The Chap 5-strings are especially nice players. Nice solid low B and great heel blend for access on the setnecks. They sort of dropped off the radar after longtime endorser Def Lepp's Rick Savage switched to Washburns in the mid-90s. I haven't seen one for sale in awhile.
morningstar Posted August 10, 2008 Posted August 10, 2008 Mine. I got it from Peter, who took this picture of it (I think). Everybody loves this bass.
cmatthes Posted August 11, 2008 Posted August 11, 2008 The one I let go and have regretted much ever since...at least I know it's in the best hands possible (until that day I buy it back, right?! :P )
Shark Posted August 11, 2008 Posted August 11, 2008 The one I let go and have regretted much ever since...at least I know it's in the best hands possible (until that day I buy it back, right?! :P ) That's a great looking bass! In fact the only fiver I know with boomer inlays !? Here is some more chap porn:
tobereeno Posted August 11, 2008 Posted August 11, 2008 I'd love to have boomerangs on my Chap 5 - they just FIT the instrument, perhaps more than any other Hamer.
serial Posted August 12, 2008 Posted August 12, 2008 Actually, it was NotChris that sold that Chappy to Unfun. I loved that bass.
fonkbass Posted February 8, 2009 Posted February 8, 2009 I bought a 5 string chap in 94 and it has been the best instrument I have ever owned. I bought it with the intention of using it as a backup bass for a Yamaha Nathan East model which was my first 5 string. Once I brought the Hamer to rehearsal the band overwhelmingly prefered the Hamer. It continues to this day to crush every bass I have bought since, including a Ken Smith 5 string which cost significantly more money. The bass sounds good no matter what the situation, recording or playing live with bands of various musical styles. I have yet to be in a situation where I was playing the Hamer and the bass was not sounding good. I have tried many basses since including Warwicks, Pedullas, Ibanez, and Lakland, none of them to me sound as good as my Chap. I am truly blessed to own this Bass and I think that it is cool as hell that a site like this exists and that there are others who love their Hamers as much or even more than I do. Damn shame they stopped making them.
