BlueRedWhite Posted May 17, 2012 Posted May 17, 2012 I saw this too I learned to dance with her music. Another great that is gone. RIP
crunchee Posted May 17, 2012 Posted May 17, 2012 There goes another great...sad. She was ALL over the radio in the late '70's and early '80's. Most disco may suck, but her music had a helluva beat, and unlike most music of the time, it was memorable and some might even say rockin'. Jeff 'Skunk' Baxter's guitar solo in 'Hot Stuff' was, well, HOT. RIP Donna.
svl Posted May 18, 2012 Posted May 18, 2012 Sad news indeed, made even more tragic if what she believed to cause her cancer turned out to be true.Rest in peace, Donna.
HSB0531 Posted May 18, 2012 Posted May 18, 2012 As much as I hated disco, I thought she was a real talent.
atquinn Posted May 18, 2012 Posted May 18, 2012 What the hell is going on?!? People seem to be dropping like flies lately. Guess I'm getting old?-Austin
lincsman Posted May 20, 2012 Posted May 20, 2012 A great Loss,Its been a very bad year for the music industry sadly
Crimsontider Posted May 20, 2012 Posted May 20, 2012 http://music.yahoo.c...-162434888.htmlI really had the hots for her during the disco era.Even though she didn't have the overall pipes of a Whitney Houston, her overall presence was better imo, very sultry. She had class and kept her gifts tuned until the end. Her presence in the 70's and 80's was huge, and she stayed an ambassador for those times until the end.

It wasn't about a level of talent (not to imply that she wasn't talented), but more of a situation where she was the entertainer that the genre needed at that time to lift it to a higher position, and I think she definitely did that.
Crimsontider Posted May 20, 2012 Posted May 20, 2012 http://music.yahoo.c...-162434888.htmlI really had the hots for her during the disco era.I don't believe I ever seen a bad picture of her even into her sixties. She looked good her whole life but was smoking sexy back in her heyday.
FrankieIII Posted May 20, 2012 Posted May 20, 2012 RIP, Donna Summer and Rick James... Always thought it would've been great for them to have collaborated musically.
JohnnyB Posted May 21, 2012 Posted May 21, 2012 She had a great voice. I always wished that she would have done a jazz album or two, but that wouldn't have fit the business model. I'm just saying I wish I could have heard her talent applied to my favorite kind of music. I got the impression that she was one of the good ones.
gorch Posted May 21, 2012 Posted May 21, 2012 Like Robin Gibb she lost against cancer. I think she contributed to the long term with her songs. RIP.
